Samsung TV firmware via USB. Why update the TV firmware and how to update it on Samsung, LG, Philips, Sony, etc.

class="eliadunit">

The rapid development of technology leaves no chance even for a new purchase to remain so for a long time. Continuous improvement in this area is increasing exponentially. Even what you buy today may become obsolete tomorrow. For some, it may be a revelation that technical excellence can be extended. It is enough to use the manufacturer’s service to install updated software. This is often called "firmware". In fact, the new version simply removed shortcomings, errors, or added new features to the previous software.

The procedure for updating the firmware of a Samsung TV is quite simple. Let's try with an example to take all the necessary steps for this. There are several methods, but we will use the update option via a USB port. You will need for the process: a clean USB drive, a laptop or PC with Internet access, and the TV itself, which we will update.

Step 1. First of all, we find out the version of the software already installed on our SMARTTV. To do this, we turn on the TV. We execute the commands: menu – support – software update . The alphanumeric combination on the right side will indicate the installed software version.

Step 2. We find a website on the World Wide Web and select the TVS product category from the list.

We enter the approximate numbers of your TV model and tips for matching models are displayed in the search bar. Select your TV model from the list or enter the full name of the TV model for an accurate search.

The exact model of your TV may be indicated on a small sticker tag on the back of the TV.

Step 3. We make sure that the information found really corresponds to the desired brand and model of TV. Then press the blue button DOWNLOADS AND DOCUMENTATION which became active after selecting the found model and we get to the “DOWNLOADS” page.

Step 4. In the “firmware” section we find a table with software updates developed to date for your equipment model. We compare the number with the numbers that we found as the first step in the TV menu. Does the site offer a higher number than the established option? This means it’s really time to go through the update procedure.

Step 5. Before downloading, we make sure that the software is suitable and completely satisfactory. To do this, look at the type of file offered for downloading: you need an update option via USB. Then we check the language support, since updating with the English version will turn the entire TV menu into “English”. The downloadable version will contain a multilingual format.

Step 6. If the firmware is suitable in all respects, then download the file to the computer.

Step 7 Now we take a prepared blank USB drive and copy the saved information there.

Step 8 Close all unused programs on the computer. We launch the program for unpacking the software update files. To do this, just double-click and press “extract”.

Step 9 We wait until the process of extracting the firmware files is completed and remove the USB drive from the computer.

Step 10: Install the flash drive with the unpacked firmware into the USB connector on the TV.

Step 11: Activate the software update. We enter the menu. Select “support”, then “software update”, then “via USB” and confirm “yes”.

To correctly install the firmware on your TV, you must do the following:

  1. Do not touch or move the USB drive
  2. Do not turn off the TV's power or put it into standby from the remote control
  3. Do not disconnect the TV from the power supply (it is advisable to use a UPS)

Often, users are faced with a situation where the TV simply refuses to update, stops working and produces multiple errors. The situation is unpleasant, but it can be solved. In today's review we will talk to you about how to update a Samsung TV via a flash drive. Where to look for the firmware, how to download it and install it correctly, what needs to be launched on the TV.

You can reflash your Samsung TV using a flash drive.

Preparing the flash drive

First, let's go to a personal computer, from where we will go to the official Samsung website and find the firmware for our TV model. Before looking for the latest firmware, we will prepare a flash drive. We need to perform low-level formatting in the FAT32 file system, which is mainly supported by TVs. To do this, we will use the HP USB Disk Storage FormatTool program.

Insert the flash drive into the USB port and launch the program. In the first field, select our media. The firmware will weigh no more than 200 MB, so any drive will do. In the second field, select the FAT32 file system. You can add a new device name if necessary. Uncheck the “Quick Format” checkbox, and then click on the “Start” button. A standard warning will appear stating that all files from the media will be deleted, click the “Yes” button. Formatting will take quite a long time, so let's start searching for the firmware.

Before going to the site, let’s go for a moment to the menu of our TV, go to the “Support” section, and from there to “Contact Samsung”.

The line we need is “Software Version”, we will need it to check if there is a new firmware. In my case, version T-GASDEUC-1018.0 is installed. Now we can calmly search.

Go to the official Samsung website, go to the “Support” section and select “Home”. We go down, select the “Downloads” section, the “Product Support” window will open, select “Audio and Video Equipment”.

Here you can enter the exact name of your TV model, click search. Our TV is located, we are checking the technical specifications. If everything is in order, then click on the “Select” button. A page will open with all the information on the TV, we need to go down a little lower to the “Downloads” section and check the firmware version. If the proposed version is higher, then you can download it here. In my case, the proposed version is 1027.0. Click on the corresponding icon and the download will begin.

The firmware has downloaded and formatting is complete. The downloaded zip archive needs to be unpacked. Most likely, we will have a self-extracting archive in front of us, so we just launch it and specify the path for unpacking. If the archive is normal, then we use any archiver: 7-Zip or WinRAR, for example. Copy the folder with the firmware to the flash drive. Please note that you need to copy not the archive, but already unpacked files.

Turn off the TV, it is advisable to disconnect all wires from it, including the antenna. Connect the flash drive to the USB port with the TV turned off. We turn on the TV. It happens that it immediately finds the firmware and offers to reflash, you just need to confirm the start of the process, but it happens that the TV does not give any suggestions. If you have the second case, go to “Menu”, “Support”, “Software Update”, “Via USB”. USB scanning in progress. A valid version was found on the device. We are prompted to update, click OK. Please note that this will reset all settings.

After the update, the TV reboots, all we have to do is set all the settings for ourselves and enjoy the new software. It is worth noting that manual updating is much more reliable than automatic updating, so it can be disabled. Go to “Software Update”, “Update in Mode”, “Turn Off”. From now on we will only update via USB.

Conclusion

We figured out how to update a Samsung TV from a flash drive. The process turned out to be not at all difficult; an experienced user will be able to cope with this without instructions. If you want to receive notifications about the release of new firmware versions, you can register on the official Samsung website by indicating your device model and email.

conclusions

We examined in detail the procedure for flashing the TV's firmware. Follow all the steps and notes, then the new firmware for Samsung TV will not cause problems. In the following articles we will look at how to flash TVs from other manufacturers. Good luck to you.

Firmware for a Smart TV is not the most common action we perform. I would even say that few people do this at all. However, updating the TV firmware will allow you to update its software and significantly expand its functionality.

Why do you need firmware for TV?

When releasing new firmware, any manufacturer, be it Samsung, LG or Philips with support for Smart TV, first of all introduces critical bug fixes, which can also affect the security of your TV on the Internet. But it’s not just them - every year new technologies are developed, new functions are added that are missing in the factory software installed on the TV several years ago at the factory. Therefore, the advantage of keeping the firmware up to date is obvious. One of the main features is the support for newer video formats for playback, which I noticed in my experience. I constantly use a DLNA server, playing videos saved on my PC over a local network on my TV. However, not all formats were played; they had to be pre-encoded into an extension understandable for the TV.

Smart TV firmware methods

There are three ways to update the firmware on a Smart TV:

  • over the Internet automatically,
  • or manually via a USB flash drive.

I don't recommend using online updates, as any unexpected action, like a power surge and turning off the TV, can cause it to turn into a big black brick. So prepare a Flash card, we will talk about this method, since it is more reliable and guarantees a successful software update in 99% of cases. It doesn’t have to be large - 1 GB is enough.

Preparing for TV firmware using Samsung as an example

Well, let's move from words to practice - I will show the example of a TV from Samsung, but these instructions are universal for any manufacturers - the only difference is in the menu items. First of all, you need to find out the model of your TV. Its number is not only in the instructions or on the box, which you most likely have already thrown away, but also on the sticker on the back cover of the case.

We remember it and go to the official website of your manufacturer. We find a search form on it and look for the page number with a description of this TV.

On it we find a section with software, where we select and download the file with the latest firmware in Russian.

We insert the flash drive into the computer and launch the downloaded firmware - a small program that will ask you to select a disk to which you want to copy all the necessary files. We select our flash drive from the list and start unpacking.

After that, boldly pull out the card and insert it into the USB port on the TV.

Samsung Smart TV Firmware

Let's move on to the main character of today's event. Go to the Smart TV menu and in the “Support” section select “Software Update”.

Select the USB option.

After this, we confirm our desire to flash the TV several times in response to requests and wait a couple of minutes. After which you can fully appreciate the benefits of the updated software.

I’ll immediately answer the question that quite logically arises in the user’s mind: will the channel settings and other parameters on the TV be saved? I can’t answer for all manufacturers, but absolutely everything is left on my Samsung, from TV program numbers to the WiFi password.

That's all for today, you will see the process of flashing Smart TV TV more clearly in the video.
