Programs for creating patterns. Building a base pattern is the most understandable way (for beginners)

Currently, a program for creating patterns according to individual measurements is becoming increasingly popular in enterprises that specialize in fulfilling individual and corporate orders.

Using CAD Grace, the production of patterns to standard sizes and according to customer standards is carried out several times faster. This opens up new opportunities and increases the competitiveness of the enterprise.

Corporate clothing is becoming increasingly common. It increases brand awareness and has a positive effect on the company's image. Corporate orders are often found in the manufacture of such types of clothing as:

  • branded clothing for employees of companies, medical institutions, security agencies;
  • promotional clothing;
  • workwear;
  • school uniform;
  • team uniform for athletes and others.

The decisive factor for winning tenders for the production of such clothing is to ensure High Quality products and efficiency of order fulfillment.

This largely depends on the qualifications of the designer and the tool he uses. Computer techologies can increase the productivity of the designer several times and automate the solution of many technical problems.

In the “Grace” pattern making program, a specialist builds a design and a set of patterns in one size. To do this, the designer can use any design technique. The subsystem provides examples of designs and tables of typical dimensional characteristics. When creating a model design, a specialist usually identifies 9-12 characteristic dimensional features of a person, which determine the features of the figure and the specifics of a particular product.

To create model patterns for a specific figure, it is necessary to build a design using the values of the client’s dimensional characteristics. Pattern making software allows you to complete this process in a few seconds and make clothes without trying them on.

CAD Grazia is suitable for both enterprises engaged in mass production of garments and those engaged in individual tailoring.

Computer programs for creating patterns

1. NANOCAD (NANOCAD)

In this program I make drawings, which I then format into pictures for articles on design and modeling. The program is quite complex, but if you have the desire, it is quite possible to master it.

NanoCAD is a program from the family of CAD (computer-aided design) programs. This is a program for designers. Its basic version is free. And this version is quite enough for me to make patterns and model. In order to start working in it, you need to register on the developer’s website nanocad.ru, download the program and receive serial number. Also on the official website you will find many video tutorials on working with the program.

All links to the described resources are not active. Just copy and paste into the search bar.

The disadvantage of this program is that each new pattern for each new figure needs to be built anew. There is no way to enter and save your formulas during the construction process. And therefore, we build each new pattern as if on paper, calculating each segment, each point.

The main convenience of the program is that we can easily reproduce our drawing and subsequently model the pattern directly in the program. Otherwise, the principle of operation is the same as with a pencil, ruler and calculator. And we need to learn to master the program well before it begins to save us time.

Similar programs: AutoCAD (AutoCAD), Compass-3D. These are also programs for design engineers.

2. VALENTINA (VALENTINE)

The second program in which I work and for which I am very grateful to its developers is the Valentina program. It's also free. But unlike Nanokada, Valentin has a wonderful opportunity to create parametric patterns (patterns) yourself. We simply change the measurements and increases and get a pattern for a different individual size. In this case, we no longer touch the drawing itself. The program automatically rebuilds it as if by magic.

How it works? The fact is that the drawing is based on formulas, just like calculator tables, which are very popular among my needlewomen. We enter the measurements and allowances, and the tablet itself calculates the pattern. The Valentina program operates on a similar principle. Construction of a pattern is labor-intensive. But the good news is that it only needs to be built (entered into the program) once.

Pay attention to this simple and intuitive program. It really simplifies the work of creating patterns and saves time. After meeting Valentina, I stopped drawing by hand, just as I stopped washing in a basin after buying an automatic washing machine)).

To date, this is the most promising program I know of. A team of developers is working on its improvement. And their plans for developing the program are ambitious. Therefore, it is worth studying now.

You can download the program installation file on the program’s official website https://valentinaproject.bitbucket.io

3.REDCAFE

RedCafe is the next program that I would like to draw your attention to Special attention. It is available in both paid and free version. The free version is more than enough for both amateurs and professionals. This program is especially interesting for beginner sewing enthusiasts. In this program you don’t have to build a drawing at all. It comes pre-installed with basic patterns that can be edited and modeled. In addition, we can download databases of patterns that were created by professionals and sewing enthusiasts. In particular, databases of patterns from Burda magazines. Otherwise, these databases are called addons.

After installing these databases, we can open any pattern from the offered magazine issues in the program. And not only open, but also print.

In this program you can create your own bases, your own patterns (models) using any design method. And this is done using the script editor. I haven’t figured out exactly how yet, but I set myself this goal.

You can download the program on the official website of the program redcafestore.com. To do this, click on the “Download” button on the right top corner. And be sure to register. You can open the program on your computer by entering the username and password that you chose when registering on the site. Since this program is directly connected to the official website, it can only be used when connected to the Internet. The patterns we edited are saved in our personal account. And they are also printed through Personal Area. Previously, you could print patterns for free, now for a small fee.

4. PROGRAM “CLOSER”

A simple and understandable program for automatically constructing product basics. We select the base we need from those offered. We enter our measurements and allowances and the program instantly gives us the finished pattern.

The developer offers the basics of four women's shoulder products - a dress, a jacket, a demi-season and a winter coat. Each base is available in two versions - straight or fitted silhouette. Additionally, there are five collar options and four sleeve options to go with these basics. Belt items for women include a skirt, culottes, trousers and jeans. For men, classic trousers are available, with a low waist and a voluminous shape.

This program creates patterns only according to the method developed by designer Nina Iosifovna Pavlova. We will not be able to model in this program. We simply print out the pattern, glue the sheets together, and only then can we model “by hand” on the finished patterns.

The “Cutter” program is perfect for those who don’t want to bother with formulas, calculations and creating patterns at all. But of course, you must first check on a sample how the product will fit on your figure.

The program is paid. It costs $40. And you can buy it on the website of the developer and author of the method - dmitriy-prog.ru/ru/main_rus.html. There's also a demon there paid option. But it's very, very stripped down. We can build any of the bases in the free version of the program, but print only the skirt. But after opening and working for a couple of minutes in the free version, it’s immediately clear how understandable and simple program. And it’s easy in the sense that it doesn’t even need to be installed on your computer. Can be stored and run from a flash drive or disk.

5. OPTITEX 11

Very interesting program. It's just a combine harvester. In it, just like in the “Valentine” program, you can create a parametric pattern. We initially create a pattern using any design method. That is, we create an algorithm for constructing a pattern, and the program records it. She writes down our actions and formulas, with the help of which we build a pattern. And subsequently we simply enter other variables (measurements, increases, etc.) for this algorithm, and the program automatically gives us a pattern for a different size.

But unlike “Valentina,” the Optitex program has a unique opportunity to model and try on a finished pattern on a virtual 3D mannequin. We can look at this mannequin from any angle. It can be either standard standard sizes or customized. We set the parameters of the mannequin ourselves. The program analyzes the fit of the product on the figure and, if necessary, will suggest changes to the pattern. We can adjust the pattern to fit even taking into account the properties of the fabric of the future product.

The program does not limit our imagination and allows us to demonstrate our design abilities: select the color of the fabric, texture, finishing stitches and finishing elements to the model being developed. Moreover, we can draw any adjacent product directly on the mannequin and obtain an exact pattern for this product. Simply fantastic! It is also possible to put several products on a mannequin at once and see how harmoniously they combine and interact with each other on the figure.

The program allows you to gradate parts, that is, reproduce them by size and height. And after creating the patterns, in the layout mode we can place the patterns manually or the program in automatic mode will pick up best option laying out patterns on a piece of fabric. The program is quite complex. But if you want, you can master it.

I did not find any information about the cost of the program and how and where it can be purchased. The official website invites you to enter your data to receive information about the program on this page - optitex.com/pricing. My request was answered that the program costs several thousand euros. On the Internet you can find a non-licensed, Russified copy of the program. I know that many people install and use it. Personally, I was unable to fully install and run this program on my computer. Haven't you tried it?

Similar programs:

Julivi (Zhulivi) - great program, but very expensive. It consists of several modules that can be connected as desired or as needed. The most interesting module, the “3D modeling” module, is available only online and only for €, unfortunately.

CLO 3D - only for modeling patterns exported from CAD programs.

6. LEKO

The Leko program also participated in my survey and several percent of needlewomen use it. This program seemed very inconvenient to me. A lot needs to be done manually.

The program has preset clothing models. We can enter our variables (measures) and select a model. The pattern will be adjusted to the characteristics of our (or our customer’s) physique.
The program provides an algorithm for constructing a model. That is, we can not only use “built-in” models, but also create our own. The algorithm seemed complicated to me. There is very little automation in this program. The elements of the algorithm must be remembered in a similar way to a programming language and the values must be typed (typed, not entered) manually, as in a text editor.

The functionality of the program makes it possible to gradate patterns - reproduction by size and height. As in some previous programs, it is possible to make the optimal layout of parts on the canvas.

The program does not require installation on your computer. I searched for a long time for the official website of the program, but never found it. And therefore I do not provide a link to the resource with installation files programs. And I can't say paid program or free.

7. GRAFIS (CAD GRAFIS)

Interesting program. It has the ability to automatically construct clothes from fabric and knitwear, and hats using built-in bases. Along with this, you can design and save basic structures using any design methods: EMKO, TsOTSHL, “M. Müller and Son”, etc. You can make changes, model and reproduce parts using gradation tools, and add seam allowances. You can use two layout options: automatic and manual. The program even allows you to digitize finished paper patterns.

The Graphis drawing format is compatible with all modern CAD programs.
The program is paid. Open information there is no information about its cost. In order to receive it, you need to send an application for a free pilot implementation of CAD Graphis on the developer’s website cadrus.ru.

Have you already mastered any of the programs for creating patterns? Or don't know which one to choose? And is it even worth mastering this or that program? Or maybe it’s better the old fashioned way with a pencil, ruler and calculator?

Let's think about this topic and see if it's worth bothering with studying computer assistants.

I did some research and wanted to give you an overview of several pattern making programs. I'll tell you what programs I use and why I like them. And I’ll start with them.
During the period of maintaining the site, I mastered several programs. But I work with two of them. This is a program - NanoCAD (nanoCAD) and a program - Valentina.

8. CAD Assyst (Germany)

Information about the program was provided by the developer's representative

Many famous brands use this software. It consists of several modules: design, 3D modeling, layout, printing, conversion, cutting optimization, data management, production, etc. You choose the number of modules you need.

It is possible to design and model any types of products using any methods. If desired, you can use automatic algorithms construction, but they use the Muller and Son construction method as a basis. Darts, folds, and seams are also automatically formed.

Import/export files in DFX format. This format any one opens graphics program(for example, Corel Draw or AutoCad).

Thanks to the online assistant and instructions for the software, you can learn how to use it (though only in English). Technical reproduction of patterns is possible both in size and height. A separate module for laying out patterns with minimal lunges in manual or automatic mode.

We would also like to mention the module for 3D visualization of patterns, which allows you to check the product for fit defects, and also feel like a designer - using an extensive library of materials, fittings and seams, you can create entire collections. At the same time, it is very convenient that all modifications on a three-dimensional product are automatically transferred to the patterns. This way you get ready-made patterns with all modifications.

The program is paid, you can find out its cost by sending a request for a commercial offer.

The review is not finished. As I become acquainted with new programs, I will add them to this list.

Share your knowledge and impressions of working in pattern making, modeling and design programs in the comments!

Good afternoon, dear reader. Today, as promised, I’m telling you about my finds on the Internet. About programs for simple and quick construction of patterns. And I’ll tell you about the programs for creating pattern drawings that I use. They are all different and they all have their pros and cons.

So: first I’ll tell you about the first program.

Valentine's program

I put it first on the list after working for several years with such pattern-making programs as: “Assol. Available Parameters" (paid), RedCafe (free and paid version), Cutter (paid).

Because it contains the most wonderful option for constructing a drawing using any method that I know of. This is an opportunity to build a parametric pattern.

This is a pattern that does not need to be built anew every time - you just need to change the client’s measurements and the drawing is automatically rebuilt to right size. This is great.

And with all that, Valentina is a free program! There is a lot of information about how to start working in this program and about the tools. detailed videos here is my blog.

To build an accurate basis, I immediately created such a parametric pattern for myself. I entered the necessary measurements to build the basic basis of a dress with a sleeve and now I use this file like this: I take measurements, enter them into the program, rearrange the size of the basis, and print out the pattern.

"Cutter" program

I spent a long time studying on the Internet the topic of the quickest and easiest way to create patterns. And I found one partially free program , it’s called “Cutter”. Partially free because it has a lightweight free version - it’s called “Cutter 1.44 lite”. This free version has the ability to calculate and construct only waist products and with printing - which is very good. That is, this version of the program has absolutely no restrictions in use - there are just a few models. All details about the program can be found on the website of the author - developer Dmitry Pavlov. Here is the link - http://dmitriy-prog.ru/ru/main_rus.html. Copy it and paste it into a search engine. You can download it there. There is also a paid version - “Cutter 2.57” - everything is described on the author’s website.

In general, what I want to say: I’m simply delighted with the “Cutter” program and bought paid version. It costs $40. But I didn’t regret it. Does it all look like a PR program? No, I do not advertise, but only talk about the capabilities and disadvantages of the programs that I have in my arsenal.

So what can the program do:

Firstly, installation on a computer is not required. You can even run it from a flash drive. You launch the program, enter the values of your body measurements, click “calculate” and voila - your pattern is on your screen. Next, print it out, glue the sheets together and use the pattern. Everything takes about 5-7 minutes. And then, gluing the leaves takes longer.

I really liked it. After all, constructing a pattern from scratch by hand takes at least 30 minutes - and even then by a pro. And this is such a time saver!

The pattern is accurate - 19 body measurement parameters are taken into account. Only without taking into account the individual characteristics of waist darts. Those who have studied my course on creating a dress pattern: will understand me. But, in principle, the finished pattern is easy to adjust in the dart area.

Probably the only drawback of this program is that there is no possibility of pattern modeling. The program only builds basic fundamentals products - men's and women's.

Shoulders - dress, jacket, demi-season coat, winter coat.

And waist ones - a skirt, a trouser skirt, classic trousers and jeans.

In the men's version there are only belt items - 4 options for trousers - classic, jeans, low-waisted and loose.

It is possible to set 4 collar options - stand-up, English, shawl and turn-down. You can also change the types of sleeves - two-seam, one-seam, with a tuck and shirt.

RedCafe program

(click on image to enlarge)

The program is also available in free and paid versions. I have information about where to find, how to download and install the program good video. I'll tell you my opinion.

There are good opportunities for beginners. You can build both the basic foundations of products according to your own standards, and simulate the result obtained by changing the location of lines and points.

And if you download and install the Burda magazine pattern addons, you can open any magazine pattern in the program and edit it to suit your needs. Not bad, right?

I currently have a paid option. This version is already on my computer and in it you can reproduce patterns with gradations, you can immediately enter seam allowances. And what I really like about this program is the most the best option from many programs - a way to print patterns.

For example, how does printing work in other programs? At best, there is a built-in method for outputting to A4 sheets. But to arrange the placement of parts on these sheets so that the part fits comfortably and entirely on the sheet - this is not possible in most programs. Then we get patterns that not only have to be glued together with sheets, but also the part may be located at the junction of the sheets. Then such a printout becomes a real punishment.

And in RedCafe, in the program window, we can immediately see a grid of A4 sheets and move the parts the way we want to print them. We can rotate parts and change places. This is what the grid with A4 sheets and patterns looks like before I arranged the arrangement of the parts on the sheets: 4 sheets of paper are consumed and two pattern parts require gluing:

And this is what the arrangement of parts looks like with a more convenient and economical arrangement for printing: only 2 sheets are consumed and only one part of the bra back requires gluing.

Also in the paid RedCafe you can display any pattern in dxf format and enter it into the Optitex program. For what? read the next paragraph:

Optitex 11 program

(click on image to enlarge)

This is where the program has unlimited possibilities! It's like photoshop. Difficult, but worth it. You can download and read about it in the topic on Osinki.

I also conduct training on working in the Optitex program. With a focus on designing women's underwear.

So, I’ve been mastering it for a long time, more than 3 years.

What the program cannot do: this is the main disadvantage - there is no way to automatically create a pattern - only by hand. It's a long time. But if you wish, you can create this too - it’s called a parametric pattern.

What it is? I myself did not immediately understand this term and did not understand its capabilities. But this is a thing! If I once build a drawing of the basis of a dress, for example, in this program using any method - either according to Muller, or using my own. And I’ll set the algorithm - that is, I’ll enter the variables, then the pattern will be rebuilt automatically when the variables change.

In essence, this will be a ready-made program within a program. But you will have to sit and pore. So, you can create algorithms for any product – for underwear and bras, in particular, I’m interested in it. Imagine - I opened the program, entered the numbers of my measurements and received a pattern for a swimsuit or a bust or something that you won’t find anywhere. But the downside of creating parametrics in Optitex is that there are a lot of difficulties. In Valentin, building parametrics is very simple and fast. So I didn’t even study the construction of parametrics in Optitex.

But the optitex program has a 3D mannequin on which you can try on the resulting patterns in the form of a finished product, you can change the texture and properties of fabrics, volumes and measurements of the mannequin. It is even possible for the mannequin to come to life and walk back and forth.

In this program, you can immediately build an adjacent product on a mannequin and, by tapping with a hammer, remove the pattern.

You can also create a pattern in Optitex from other programs - import. For example, from the paid RedCafe.

In general, an excellent program for professionals, for the enthusiastic and advanced.

Although this post turned out to be long, take a little more time, make yourself a cup of tea and sit back - more to come interesting video about our trip to Yekaterinburg with the children. I apologize in advance for the sound quality - the car was shaking quite a bit. Our roads in the Urals are not very good.

Why should you watch this? It was very interesting there - in one day we drove almost 900 km - this is half the distance from us to Moscow! We drove through 5 cities - in total, the road took 15 hours. We visited the museum of military equipment - an amazing collection!

The uniform of soldiers and officers from the Great Patriotic War is incredible! Everything is real. We saw Karabash - the most polluted city in the world. And we saw the most beautiful temples of the “Ganina Yama” - this is the place where the Romanov family was executed, along with their children. Not far from Yekaterinburg.

Everything didn’t fit into one video, so the next article will have a second part. And today the first one: (double-click on the video screen for full screen mode viewing):

In the next article I will write a continuation with a video about the foot massage that Valentina does. We recorded a couple of videos about massage. First video - .

And I can’t wait to post new patterns in my pattern database for you.

P.S: If you, dear reader, have not yet downloaded my new free video course on sewing a dress, you can get it

Pattern making program - type software, designed for designing and modeling pattern parts, calculating material consumption and planning the production process.

The general name of this type of program – CAD – stands for “System Computer-Aided Design». Various types CAD is currently used in the work of architects, landscape designers, surveyors, and engineers.

The first CAD samples were created in the 70s. They provided the opportunity to automate the solution of similar problems. In the sewing industry, this was a gradation of patterns (a proportional change in the details of patterns in accordance with the size range). Now the range of functions has become much wider: it is now possible to work with color, material texture, calculate the optimal layout of parts on fabric, etc.

Most CAD developers create programs for working with two-dimensional layouts. Behind last years Several new programs have appeared that allow you to create and edit models in 3D format immediately on a virtual mannequin. The main audience for this software are seamstresses and amateur fashion designers with only basic design knowledge. CAD data is still difficult to satisfy the needs of specialists due to insufficiently developed functionality.

Modern programs for creating patterns can be used at home to create individual models and small collections, as well as at a sewing factory. The use of sewing CAD has a number of significant advantages over the manual process. First of all, this is a noticeable increase in labor productivity (more than doubling according to domestic developers).

Thanks to design programs, it is possible to optimize working conditions and results:

  • Product development takes less time;
  • the possibility of errors in calculations and other shortcomings made due to the “human factor” is excluded;
  • the ability to reduce the consumption of sewing material thanks to the rational layout of patterns.

Depending on the type of software and the task at hand, patterns created using design programs can be printed on a regular printer or a professional plotter. The digital model is saved in the computer's memory, which allows you to create your own virtual library of models. Another significant advantage of working with CAD is that the resulting drawings comply with GOST requirements.

Stages of product development in clothing design programs

  1. Creation of the basic design of the product.
  2. Structural modeling (modification of parts of the basic design).
  3. Gradation of patterns in accordance with the size range.
  4. Construction of the pattern layout.
  5. Printing the finished result.

After developing the pattern details (if it is necessary to sew several samples of the product different sizes) is carried out:

  • gradation of patterns in accordance with the size range;
  • constructing a layout of patterns;
  • the finished pattern is printed.

COMTENSE

The program exists in several versions: for individual use, ateliers and small design studios, enterprises. Provided separate version for sewing covers for upholstered furniture.

The peculiarity of this software is its wide range of functions that allow you to optimize production stages:

  • create a sequence of actions;
  • organize division of labor;
  • calculate fabric consumption;
  • make calculations for automated cutting.

VALENTINA (VALENTINE)

The VALENTINA pattern making program is one of those programs that is easy to use in everyday practice and will be easier for beginners to start with. The range of functions is not very wide, since there is no possibility of modeling structures, however, the stage of working with data from finished patterns is convenient and allows the use of parametric settings.

NANOCAD

"NANOCAD" is one of the professional high-tech CAD systems, different variants which are intended for all main areas of design, including sewing production. Basic version The program is distributed free of charge and has all the functions necessary for creating patterns and further modeling. To work in NANOCAD, you need to know the initial formulas for constructing the required patterns, and saving the intermediate result is impossible. The program is suitable for “advanced” individual users and manufacturers of garments.

AutoCroy

The Belarusian program for patterns “AutoCroy” is a multi-level system for the professional production of garments. Versions of this system vary depending on the type of end product. As criteria for selection the desired program speakers:

  • material used (knitwear, textiles, fur);
  • type of product (sports or casual clothing, bags, children's underwear, toys);
  • gender and age (children's/adults' clothing).

The key point for all systems is the tab with basic designs, which allows you to design the base of the product as accurately as possible, taking into account the individual characteristics of the figure.

REDCAFE

The Redcafe program is quite easy to use and suitable for beginners. The interface is similar to graphic editors(the developers themselves call “Redcafe” a clothing editor). Allows you to choose one of the three modes– points, lines or objects. The construction of products is carried out as clearly as possible; registered users have access to a large updated database of ready-made patterns.

GRAFIS

The GRAFIS design system is aimed at covering the interests of both beginners and experienced designers due to several possible work algorithms. The first option is to design patterns and model the basics existing in the program. Second - independent development basic designs according to the preferred method. All developments, whether modifications of existing ones in memory or newly created designs, can be saved in the basics library. Also in GRAFIS there are databases of ready-made structural elements and parts (hoods, cuffs, collars, pockets, etc.), which at the modeling stage can be built into the pattern with automatic correction of all necessary calculations.

OPTITEX

The design product “Optitex” is intended for professional figures in the fashion industry who seek to calculate in as much detail as possible the features of the cut, fit and material of the product. The program can also model two-dimensional parts, but the main focus is on working with 3D objects. In addition to the program, applications have been released that allow you to view and upload ready-made virtual models to media before the sewing stage.
