It is much safer to pay with cards or use such payment services that allow you not to enter a permanent password, but to confirm a one-time payment - it comes in SMS or is generated by a mobile application. Such passwords "live" for a very short time and are suitable for only one operation, so there is no point in stealing them.

Install and update antiviruses. Antivirus is a completely useful thing - not only for a computer, but also for a smartphone. Viruses can affect not only the quality of the device, but also the safety of personal data - passwords from social networks, mail, payment services.

Look for https:// in the address bar. The most important thing in this familiar set of letters and signs is the Latin s. It is its presence that means that you are on a web page, the security of which the developers have taken care of ("s" means secure, translated from English - "safe"). If the browser warns about an insecure connection or blocks the transition to the site, warning about a possible infection of the computer, you should not try to enter it again and, moreover, enter card data on its pages. Even if you are well acquainted with this resource, it is better to wait and try to return after a while, when the problem is fixed - sometimes a large online portal can get sick.

Do not make payments from other people's computers. Even if it's your best friend's computer, you can never be sure that she keeps her device safe. Even more dangerous are devices from Internet cafes, student libraries and other public places. In addition to viruses, here a "live" scammer can wait for the user: sitting behind your shoulder, he peeps and writes down logins and passwords. In addition, attackers today have technologies that allow them to steal other people's data in public places - from password interceptors from the keyboard to special programs that save requests in the browser. But if you bought something from someone else's computer, do not forget to log out of all accounts.

Do not give your passwords even to the "security service". Fraudsters have got the knack of extorting financial information in the following way: someone calls, pretending to be a security specialist of your bank or electronic payment service, and says: “Something suspicious is happening with your account, we need to check the information for security reasons. Please name your passport details (pin -code, CVV2, code from the SMS you just received - possible variations) This behavior is a sure sign that these are fake cybercrime fighters.

True employees of the security service of the payment service will not call and be interested in personal data, as well as account passwords. Most likely, the card number became known to the fraudster, and he is trying to get the missing information in order to withdraw money from the account.

And now it's time to talk about the most common methods of fraud on the Internet. Knowing about their existence, it will be easier to recognize them, and therefore to defend themselves.

1. "I entered this number by mistake." Imagine a situation: some kind of holiday, good mood, feast - and then an SMS, and after it - a call. 2. Letter from a friend. You receive a message from a friend - on a social network or Skype, she asks for a loan. He says that it is very urgent, and begs, if possible, to transfer the necessary amount immediately - to a card or wallet.

What to do? Before rushing to help a friend out of trouble, it is worth double-checking the information, as the account can be hacked. The best thing in such a situation is to call a friend back and find out the essence of the problem by phone. If this is not possible, you can ask some kind of "control" question, the answer to which only she can know.

3. "Mom, I have problems!". Another similar and common type of fraud is no longer based on friendship, but on parental feelings. Sometimes scammers send out messages to mobile numbers, trying to get to the one who believes and responds. And the fact that the SMS in this case comes from an unknown number only increases the recipient's excitement: "Mom, I had an accident, I urgently need money, please transfer it to this phone number." "Dad, I have problems, I'm in the hospital, I'm writing from someone else's phone, please throw money into this wallet. Don't tell mom." The goal is clear - to lure money from the user's relatives: they themselves will transfer them to the specified mobile number, bank card or electronic wallet (depending on which method will be indicated in the SMS).

What to do? Contact the user on behalf of whom the message was received using his real phone number and check the information. If the phone is unavailable or does not answer, try contacting in any other way. Sometimes "a subscriber outside the coverage area" means only that a person is traveling by subway.

4. "You won the lottery." A well-known radio station calls and congratulates you on winning 1,000,000 rubles? I received a letter from an advertising agency in the mail that your address has become happy and now their client, a global jewelry manufacturer, is giving you a diamond ring? You only need to pay tax or pay for the delivery of the prize. If you have never participated in these lotteries, you can be sure that the good news is fake. The "tax" will go to the scammers, and the promised winnings will never reach the addressee.

Here are some signs of a fake lottery:

the user has never left his personal data on the resource or in the organization on behalf of which the message comes
the message is composed with spelling errors;
The sender's mail address is located on a public mail service - for example, gmail.com, yandex.ru, mail.ru.

5. "Your account is blocked." You receive an alarm message from your bank or payment service. It contains information that the account is blocked, and in order to resume working with it, you must follow the link and enter your data. The only purpose of such letters is to convince a person to go to a fake (phishing) site and enter their personal data there, which will be stolen, and after them - the money from the account. In addition, a phishing site can infect your computer with a virus.

Remember: payment services and banks never send messages about account blocking by e-mail.

What to do? Do not follow links from such emails and do not enter your passwords on third-party sites, even if they are very similar to the site of a bank, Yandex.Money or another payment service. Before entering your payment information on any sites, check the site address in your browser. For example, instead of money.yandex.ru, a fake site can use the address money.yanex.ru.

6. Twin stores. Fraudulent online stores often masquerade as well-known ones. Their address in the line may differ from the address of the real store by just one letter, for example, yubbka.com instead of yubka.ru. But even in a real online store, danger can await - during the transition to the page for paying for goods. At this moment, a special virus throws the user to a fake page.

What to do? Do not trust ads for suspiciously cheap goods. Before buying, search the Internet for reviews about an online store or a private seller who offers a product. If there is no information or it is not enough, refuse the purchase.

8. Freebie with a subscription. Save on a licensed MS Office, watch a new blockbuster - in good quality, online, for free? On the Internet, the miser also pays twice, and sometimes even three times. Often, users who want to download a file for free or watch a pirated copy of a movie are prompted to enter a mobile number on the site. If you do so, a paid SMS subscription may turn on, and money will be debited from the specified number.
