Downgrading iPhone 5 firmware. iFaith - a reliable way to roll back the operating system

Dmitriy
Eat old iPhones 4, iPhone 4s, iPad 1, 2, 3. Is it possible to downgrade the firmware to, say, iOS 6? Currently running iOS 8 and iOS 9.

Dmitry Chadov
Hi guys. Friends have a bunch of semi-rare devices. iPhone 4, 4s, iPad 1, 2, 3. They have the latest firmware versions. And of course, these bodies don’t work anymore. As far as I understand, it is not possible to downgrade iOS 6 without jailbreaking?

If you prepared a video and a set of files of the young flasher for Mac and Windows, it would be such a royal gift for them. Well, for me, since I’m interested in this and will have to do it :)

Maybe some craftsmen in the services will be able to show a master class. It’s just that YouTube is full of everything, but it’s not clear whether these videos and articles work in today’s realities?

Dmitry, greetings. Look what the situation is.

Rolling back to the previous firmware is impossible due to the fact that Apple simply stopped their subscription. Here, for example, is the iPhone 4s. You can roll back, but only by
iOS 9.3.5. The iPhone 4 has iOS 7. The principle seems to apply here: if you update, it’s your own fault.
The only return option is to have a full backup of the firmware using third party utilities until the update to the latest firmware. I don’t think your comrades have something like this :(

Downgrade is possible, but only if you have a complete image original device- his personal. If it is not there, alas.

What firmware is currently available?

For the iPhone 2g, for example, everything is more fun - the first firmware is still being signed there. The iPhone 3G has iOS 2. All of them are easily uploaded in the mode Restore via held Shift/Option (Mac).

Hi all! In today's topic I would like to continue the conversation about the iPhone. In particular, in one of my previous articles I already told you, so today’s article will be a continuation...

When your smartphone starts to work incorrectly, you first need to check operating system. The most common cause of deterioration in quality iPhone work are glitches in iOS. Defects appear due to malware, clogging the system with unnecessary software or a hardware conflict with a certain version of the operating system.

How to return to the previous version of iOS?

I have already told you how to update or restore a gadget; in both cases we used standard circuits. But sometimes the current version of the operating system turns out to be too “heavy” for the gadget; this usually happens with outdated iPhone models. The user updates the gadget and realizes that the new version of iOS overloads the gadget. Having gone into the settings, the owner of the smartphone discovers that there is no “Go back” button in the settings. After researching this question, I found a fairly simple way to get back to previous system, that is, install the iOS we need manually.

Difference from recovery

Surely you have already encountered gadget restoration. Very often, users mean by one concept “flashing” three actions at once. Let's briefly go through each option so as not to get confused in the future. We can perform the following manipulations with our smartphone:

Restoration - returning the gadget to its original settings, while all data and content from the device are deleted, the smartphone receives a clean operating system.

Update - when iTunes help or the built-in iPhone tool, you can update the operating system to the latest version, personal data and content are preserved.

Rollback - implies a return to more earlier version system, with the help of special tools, the user can choose any firmware for his gadget, including custom.

This material discusses rollback in detail. Follow my instructions and you will succeed. I recommend performing this manipulation only for those gadgets that began to slow down after updating to the latest version of the iOS operating system.

Preparatory stage

Before installation alternative version iOS you will need to do several simple actions. Let's start with Reserve copy. No one is immune from a sudden error during a rollback, so you need to save all the data on your smartphone. You can create a backup using standard tool in iPhone. Go to “Settings”, in this section you will find the “Restore and Backup” menu. With simple manipulations you can protect all your data from loss.

The second step is to select the desired version of iOS. If you need a rollback, most likely you already have the operating system you need. If not, then on this resource http://appstudio.org/ios you will find the necessary firmware.

Download it and save it on your computer, since we will perform the rollback using a PC.

You can also download iOS from this site http://getios.com/ Go to the resource and find a field where you need to indicate the type of your gadget “YOUR DEVICE”. In the next window you should enter the model, after which a window with iOS options, which will work on your iOS. All that's left to do is download the required version. The screenshot above shows the selection menu in detail.

Rollback process: instructions

We take a charged smartphone and connect it to the computer using a cord. Launch iTunes. IMPORTANT! The program must be the latest version, to update, go to the “Help” - “Update” tab. The application will download itself latest version and restart.

Now you need to wait until the program sees your device, it usually takes a few seconds, so you won’t have to wait long. You will also need to select the type of gadget you have; to do this, select the appropriate section in the settings or simply press the “Ctrl + S” combination on your keyboard.

In the window that appears, click the “Browse” button, and then click the “Update” button. If you are working on a computer with an operating system Windows system, then you need to hold down the “Shift” key and at the same time click on the “Update” button. Concerning Mac users, then you need to hold down the “Alt” key and click on “Update”.

After this, a form will appear where you need to select new version for update. We will trick the system and click on the pre-downloaded firmware, which may be several levels lower. Thus, we will start the rollback process to the previous version. If you return it in the standard way old firmware it didn’t work, try using a special program.

Rollback using RedSnow

Download RedSnow from the developer's official website and install it on your computer. The creators have taken care of a version for computers on Windows and Mac. Be sure to follow the preparatory steps described above to avoid losing important data and content. I’ll say right away that this method takes more time than working in iTunes, but in some cases it’s impossible to do without RedSnow.

To roll back using this program, you will need to log into DFU mode on iPhone. To do this, you need to connect the gadget to the PC, turn off the device, and after the work is complete, you should simultaneously hold down the “Power” and “Home” buttons for about 10 seconds. After this, release the power button, while the “Home” button should remain pressed. Wait until the program, in our case RedSnow, detects the device in recovery mode.

The rollback is performed according to the following scheme:

— Launch the application on the computer and select the “Extras” section in the main menu and go to the “Even more” menu.

— Now press the “Restore” button. Here you will need to specify the path to the firmware file using the IPSW key.

— As soon as the question window appears, you should quickly click on the “YES” button.

— Now switch the device to DFU mode according to the instructions.

— When the program detects the device, you will need to specify the path to the certificates, usually they come along with the firmware file.

“We just have to wait for the process to complete.” The “Restore Successful” message will let you know that you did everything right.

As you can see, returning to the previous version is not difficult. It is important to determine whether you need it or not. If necessary, you can always upgrade to more new iOS, the rollback operation does not affect this in any way.

operating room iOS system 7 on the iPhone can only satisfy a user who is not demanding of his gadget. The system works slowly, the hardware operates at the limit of its modest capabilities, and, unfortunately, its capabilities and resources are limited third party programs, the game is often not enough. The result of running iOS 7 on the iPhone is slowdowns, crashes, delays and other attributes of the new operating system. First Apple time allowed users to roll back to iOS, but then the shop was closed. But, as you may have guessed, loopholes still remain.

iFaith - a reliable way to roll back the operating system

We will look at 2 methods that will allow you to roll back iOS to a lower level. And the first way is the iFaith program. But we need to warn you in advance that for a successful result we will need not only this program, but also the saved SHSH blobs from iOS 6.1.3. For the process to be correct, we need:

  • iPhone 4 with iOS 7. More modern models, such as iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPod player And iPad tablet, will not work with the iFaith program;
  • The iFaith program itself. It is worth saying that it only works on Windows. Therefore, manipulation of iOS 7 will take place using a PC;
  • Stored SHSH from iOS 6.1.3 or earlier;
  • Properly saved data from iPhone 4 (you can use iCloud);
  • iTunes version 11.0.5 or lower. Don't forget that you need to uninstall your current iTunes first. Only then can you download old version programs. If the rollback from iOS 7 to iOS 6 is successful, then iTunes can be updated again;
  • Backup in iCloud and iTunes;
  • Firmware iOS 6.1.3.

The important point is that iTunes backups were not received backward compatibility. This can be understood to mean that once a rollback is made to iOS 6, it will not be possible to restore iPhone condition from backup copy iOS 7. Those programs and games that are synchronized with iCloud (if activated, Notes, Calendar, Reminders) will be restored after flashing. Co third party applications everything is purely individual. It is recommended that you transfer pictures and videos to your computer manually or save these files in Dropbox cloud. It would also be better to save the audio from the recorder to your computer or email it to yourself.

Detailed instructions for iFaith

First, we check whether all the steps described above are followed. Special attention Pay attention to saving data from iOS 7. Now you can connect your iPhone 4 to personal computer(preferably original cord or 100% working) cable. Let's break down the rollback of iPhone 4 with iOS 7 into 3 steps for convenience. So, let's go.

Step 1

Launch iFaith on your PC and click the “OK” button. If it presses through, it means that the iPhone 4 is connected correctly. Now we find a button with the English name “Show Available SHSH Caches on Server”. The program will ask you if you want to use the connected iPhone 4. To continue, click on the “Yes” button. Now we are offered three options - we need to select the third one in the list - “Show list of available SHSH blobs on TSS server”.

The program will show us all SHSH blobs from Cydia servers. If you previously used iFaith with an iPhone 4, then the saved SHSH blobs will also be available. We need to select the appropriate file to roll back from OS 7 to 6.1.3. Select and wait for loading. Then the program will ask you to specify the folder where the file will be saved. Choose a desktop. The program will notify you when SHSH for OS 6 is downloaded. Click "OK". Next, we will be informed that the file verification has been successfully completed. Click “OK” again.

Step 2

After the last operation, iFaith will again ask if you want to use the connected iPhone. We refuse him and close the program. Open it again and click “OK” to continue. From the available tasks, select “Build *signed* IPSW w/ blobs”. Click “Browse for blobs” and find the saved SHSH blob file (we store it on the desktop). When the program accepts this file, click “OK”.

Select the option called “Browse for the IPSW” and indicate to iFaith the location where the previously downloaded iOS 6.1.3 firmware is located. If you did not download the firmware before connecting iPhone 4, then you can entrust this to iFaith. The firmware is verified, and then the “Build IPSW” button should appear. We click on it.

Now you need to give the program time to complete the operations; the process will not take more than 10 minutes. When the process is completed, the message “finished creating your custom “signed” IPSW” will appear. Remember the file name well and click “OK”. OS 7 rollback is almost here.

Step 3

In order for the rollback to continue, you must enter the iPhone 4 into DFU mode. To do this, turn off iPhone 4 and press the “Start” button. Now all you have to do to roll back OS 7 is follow the instructions on the screen. But there is a problem, the instructions are on English language. And if among our readers there are people who are not particularly familiar with this language, then they too will be able to roll back the gadget using our translation:

Prepare to press and hold the Home and Power buttons after 5 seconds;
Press and hold the Power and Home buttons for 10 seconds, get ready to release the power button;
Release the “Power” button, but the “Home” button must be pressed for another 30 seconds.
After iFaith finds 4 iPhones in DFU mode, it will activate the iREB utility and tell you that your gadget has been successfully “pwned DFU” (translation you better not know). Click “OK” and “OK” again to exit the program. The rollback is almost complete, there are a couple of operations left with iTunes. The program will say that a new device has been detected in recovery mode. Click “OK” to continue.

To permanently roll back firmware 7, hold down the “Shift” button and click on “Restore iPhone”. Indicate where the firmware created using iFaith is located. Hint: The file will contain the words "signed" and "iFaith" in its name. The rollback is complete. Now iTunes starts the process iPhone recovery 4 on iOS firmware 6.1.3. Wait for it to finish, say goodbye to OS 7 and disconnect the gadget from your computer. Once everything is restored, you can set up your phone by following the operating system prompts. Everything is ready, the rollback is completed successfully.

Second method: Redsnow program

A rollback can be performed using the Redsnow program, a version of which is available for both Windows and the operating system. MAC systems OS. Choose what suits you best and download the program. Now let's launch it. We go the following way: click “Extras”, then “Even more”, then “Restore”. Now in the “IPSW” section you need to select the firmware for your iPhone 4. After selecting the firmware, the “Prevent baseband update” window should appear, in which you need to click “Yes” (if you have a locked device, then click “Yes”, and if it’s unlocked, then "No").

After these steps, a window should appear that will inform us that the iPhone with OS 7 needs to be entered into DFU mode. Feel free to click “OK” and enter the phone into this mode. Without it, rollback is impossible. When DFU entry is completed, a warning window will reappear (only for locked devices). Click “Yes”. That's it, the rollback has started.

After this, the program will ask for the location SHSH certificates, without which rollback is impossible. We described these files in the first method. If you saved them on your computer, then you can safely load them from there. Once the certificates are found, the rollback will be completed. The inscription “restore successful” will help you understand that you succeeded in rolling back your gadget.

As you can see, rolling back the gadget is not that difficult. The main thing is to strictly follow step by step instructions and do not skip its points. Then you can easily roll back from OS 7 to OS 6. Good luck, and remember that files may be damaged during flashing. So don't forget to save everything important from your phone to your computer or iCloud/iBox.

Greetings! Apple Company releases updates with enviable regularity software for their devices and constantly encourages users to install new firmware versions. Sometimes this call is even too intrusive - look at the notorious “red one” on the settings icon! And although, the temptation to update and see what's new for the iPhone or iPad is very great.

And here you can make a big mistake. So, let’s imagine that you installed a new version of iOS, looked at it, touched it... but you didn’t like it! Is it possible to roll back and return the old firmware? Now let's try to figure it all out. Let's get started!

And the most important thing is where you need to start...

In most cases, rollback is not possible. At your own discretion, you cannot change or “jump” from one version of iOS to another.

For example, if you have availability of iPhone or an iPad with iOS 10, then there is no way you can install iOS 9 or 8. Absolutely not.

Why? The thing is that Apple has a system of so-called “firmware signing”. And, usually, the company signs (that is, allows installation) only the most current version iOS. Likewise, precisely because of the absence of this signature, it is impossible to upgrade the firmware “just a little.”

For example, you have iOS 8 installed and you want iOS 9, not the current one this moment tenth version. Is it possible to do this? No. Updating is only possible for the latest software.

As you can see, Apple is true to itself and limits the user’s work with the software as much as possible. Do you want to update? Install only the most latest firmware. Do you want to downgrade your iOS version? You can’t do this - everything is for your safety!

Is it really not possible? In fact, there are small exceptions, and although they are practically irrelevant for the mass user, it is useful to know about them. So, in what cases can you install a previous version of iOS on an iPhone or iPad:

So, “ordinary” people (including my humble person) need to remember this:

For any device “older” than the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, there is not even a theoretical possibility to roll back the firmware at any time.

It's a sad fact, but nothing can be done - these are Apple's rules.

However, if you look from the other side, everything is not so bad. After all, new software versions mean improved security, stability, bug fixes and many, many other goodies. Although... for writing articles and instructions, sometimes I miss the ability to use the previous version of the software on my iPhone.

P.S. Did the article help and make it a little clearer? Click on the buttons social networks!:) Did the author write some nonsense? Like it, let him be ashamed! :(

As you know, Apple does not allow you to install old firmware versions. All this was done for security reasons, and thanks to this approach, most users do not have to worry about the safety of their personal data. How exactly does the firmware signing system work?

The update process occurs as follows: iTunes or the device itself (when updating over the air) accesses special server Apple requests verification of the digital signature. The process sends the device identifier (ECID) and therefore the server response is unique for each request. If everything is fine, then it happens digital signature firmware (SHSH) and the installation process begins.

Is it possible to bypass this system?

Yes, SHSH with Apple server It can be requested not only by iTunes, but also by any other program. The developer 1Conan has created a tool that allows you to save SHSH2 certificates: . To use this method, you need to know the ECID of your iOS device.

How to find out the ECID of your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch?

  1. Connect your iOS device to your computer.
  2. Launch iTunes and select the Browse tab in the left pane.
  3. Click in the field " Serial number» on the Review tab until the ECID number appears.
  1. Go to the website - https://tsssaver.1conan.com/.
  2. Enter your ECID in the iTunes (Hex) field.
  3. Now all you have to do is select the model of your device.
  4. Immediately after this, the certificates can be downloaded.

It is important to understand that this tool only allows you to save SHSH2 current versions, however, after the firmware stops signing, the certificates will not lose their relevance and you can roll back.

In addition to saving the certificates, we will need to perform one more operation - configure the nonce. How it's done? Each firmware has its own tool for this.

Actually, the utilities themselves:

(iOS 10.3-10.3.3)
(iOS 9.3.4-9.3.5)
(iOS 11.1.1- 11.1.2)
(iOS 9.0-9.3.4)

So what is a nonce? Every time your device boots into Recovery mode, it generates a nonce value ( unique number every time). Our saved SHSH2 has a Generator and ID line. Our task is to make the nonce number and the ID number the same. If you are using a jailbreak device, you can do this using the programs listed above.
