Searching for documents and data on the Internet. Secrets of searching the Internet and unusual search engines Files for searching the Internet

Search secrets. How to find the required document.

Hello everyone, this is the next lesson on how to properly search for information on the web using Google. There is one trick, which, however, as always, is no secret. Few of us think about it, but everyone understands this logically - the Internet is far from just web pages of resources. These are video, photo and audio files, these are documents of various formats and much more. Due to some circumstances (including due to an oversight of the file owner), we do not always have access to it via a direct download link on a particular resource. But they exist on the Internet and Google sees them perfectly. The files are indexed by the search engine, which means they are available to us. So finding the right document can be easier than each of us thinks. Let's find them.

Before moving on specifically to the search, it is worth mentioning a special Google service, which, it turns out, few people know about. This is the advanced search page:

https://www.google.com/advanced_search?hl=en

I will deliberately leave this without comment, everything is in Russian. Learn and use. This is, say, an advanced search page without knowledge.

Each file has its own extension, which determines the type of program with which it is supposed to open. By default, the type is hidden from the user's view. But not for Google. Even without knowing the full name of the document, you can (theoretically) try to find the document you need, knowing that it looks like, for example, a Word document from the Microsoft Office suite. In general, Google understands these extensions:

Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) Adobe PostScript (PS) MacWrite (MW) Microsoft Excel (XLS) Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) Microsoft Word (DOC) Microsoft Works (WDB, WKS, WPS) Microsoft Write (WRI) Rich Text Format (RTF ) Text (ANS, TXT)

And some others, more specific. If you are going to find the desired document, for example, it must be in Word format with the .docx extension, then you can try setting this parameter (without a dot before the extension) in the search line. It should look like this:

Document_name\file\movie\song filetype:file_type

For example:

Cactus purchase and sale agreement filetype:docx

By analogy with the exclusion of unnecessary information from search results that you know, you can, on the contrary, exclude unnecessary extensions from it and work only with certain types of them. We thus use the exclusion operator “-”. For example:

Cactus purchase and sale agreement -filetype:docx

All. There will be no pages with the agreement in Word format in the search results. There will be PDF, TXT, but not Word.

How to find the desired document on a specific website or domain.

Often, some users are faced with the task of finding the right document or simply looking at some information only on resources that have a higher degree of trust compared to others. For example, the domains .com, .edu, .org belong to government or educational institutions, which have greater information weight. Or we need to find out information or news from the original source. And it’s better to learn about the collapse of quotes on the English stock exchange not from the Israeli website, isn’t it? Therefore, it was better to probe English sources of information - this is the domain zone british.uk. Or Canadians – .ca. Or the French - fr. And so on.

So, to search only for a specific domain zone, specify the domain type in the search query using the “site:” operator. For example:

Site:.edu (don't forget the dot before the domain name)

And when typing information in a certain zone:

Do it yourself.:ru

Google will search results only on the Russian-language Internet (Runet).

By analogy with a domain zone, you can reduce the search location to a specific website. For example, if you need to read help about a particular event in the Windows operating system, it makes sense to turn to the original source. Search within the limits of only the official help from Microsoft on the official website. To do this, use the same operator in this form:

Error 000240767 site:www.microsoft.com (you cannot put a period before the address!)

All results found will only apply to this site.

Some useful services will help to significantly reduce the time it takes to search for documents and files down to a few minutes or even seconds:

  1. Yandex advanced search. Not everyone is aware that search engines have advanced versions of search. Yandex has this service on this page: http://yandex.ru/search/advanced. Here, by entering the required request, you can clarify the details of this request. For example, the document language, publication date, and, of course, the format you need. After clicking on the “Find” button, the search engine will give you a list of links to documents of the required format. All you have to do is click on the “Download” button, and the document will be downloaded directly from the server on which the document or file is located without any registration. Or you can first read the contents of the document without downloading by clicking on the “View” button so as not to overload your computer with unnecessary files.
  2. Advanced Google Search. Google also provides the ability to find files of the desired format. Here is the page where you can do this: http://www.google.ru/advanced_search. Unlike Yandex, Google makes it possible to search in such exotic formats as: Adobe PostScript (.ps), Autodesk DWF (.dwf), Shockwave Flash (.swf). In fact, the list of formats that Google searches for is much wider. If you add the so-called filetype query operator at the end of the search phrase and follow it with the file format you need, you can easily find the file you are looking for. For example, if you need to find a MIDI file of the composer Bach, you can type Bach filetype:mid and you'll likely find what you're looking for.
  3. Another useful service is located at this address: http://wte.su/poisk.html. This is a search service for documents of various formats, including TXT, FB2, ODT, and even RAR and ZIP. After entering your query, you can quickly navigate through the tabs, searching for a specific file type. The service has 2 significant advantages - simplicity and speed of search. The only drawback is that the links do not always lead to the final file. Where there is a direct link to the file, you will see a "Download" button.
  4. You can also use the FTP server search service http://filemare.com/ to search for files. After all, sometimes files are uploaded to FTP servers with open access to internal folders, but search engines often do not find them. After you enter your query into the search bar of this service, you will see a list of files and folders found on the Internet that contain in their name or path the text you entered in the search query.

At first glance, searching for a file on the Internet using the desired file hosting service is not a promising topic. But this is only at first glance. Until there is a need to find a specific file on a specific file hosting service. Why on a certain file hosting service? Because an ordinary user is most often the happy owner of one paid gold account. Well, of course, since the money has been paid, you need to use this file hosting service 200 percent.

Of course, you can enter the name of the desired file in any of the search engines, but the search results are displayed in them without reference to the exchanger. You can play around and add the name of the file hosting service to the file name. The results will be better, but still difficult to read.

It is much easier to use one of the online services. Personally, after spending half an hour, I have found only three workers to date. And I will be very grateful if visitors add their finds in the comments.

You can search here on Rapidshare, Dfiles, Mega, 4shared, Mediafire and Turbobit. Enter or copy the file name in the search field, mark the desired file hosting service(s) and click the "SearchFile" button. You can sort your search by file size.

The screenshot shows a page with search results for my query. I checked all the file hosting services one by one. Everything works. There is a search option by region, although this is not relevant to us, Russia is not on the list.

There are already many more file hosting services advertised on it, although I have never heard of most of them: Mega.co.nz, Bitshare.com, Wupload.com, Freakshare.com, Depositfiles.com, Mediafire.com, Filefactory.com, Rapidshare.com, Uploadstation.com and Uploaded.to. The search procedure itself is similar to that described above.

A nice addition is video search on YouTube, Dalealplay, Metacafe and Googlevideo. However, it is worth considering that the service is Spanish, so some videos have the status of not being shown in Russia.

The most powerful of these three online services. The initial search is carried out by file extension. Among the available ones: avi, mp3, mpeg, mpg, rar, wma, wmv, zip, rmvb, mkv, mp4, 3gp, flv, torrent or all.

Having received preliminary results, the search can be adjusted. Under the "Hosting" menu there are about 60 file hosting services. Again, the one you need must be ticked.
