Mug stand using the Decoupage technique. Master class with step-by-step photos.

Raisa Ivanovna Bolba, teacher of additional education of the 1st qualification category, MBOU DOD Center for Technical Creativity, Belaya Kalitva.

This master class is intended for children of secondary school age, teachers of additional education, as well as all lovers of needlework.

Purpose: mug stand, DIY gift.

Target: making a mug stand.

Tasks:
- introduce the technique of decorating objects using decoupage;
- improve skills in working with paint, glue, napkins;
- cultivate dedication, accuracy, artistic taste.

About 20-30 years ago, coasters for mugs took a strong place in the life of almost every person, and they began to choose an original name for them. The most popular were bonfire, coaster and beermat. The name "beerdekel" was borrowed from the German language and translated means the lid of a beer mug. In Germany there were beer mugs that had lids on top. Such mugs cost a lot of money, and in beer shops beer in these mugs was served only to wealthy people. And ordinary people drank beer from ordinary mugs, which had a small felt circle on top. The Germans put this mug under the mug so that it would not get in the way, and at the same time absorb any accidentally spilled beer. Thus, the lid was renamed into a mug stand.
Later, various companies began placing their advertisements on mug stands. Travel enthusiasts bring with them from various countries such mug coasters with various designs or inscriptions as souvenirs.
We will make a stand for a mug from old CDs, old postcards and napkins with a pattern.

For work we will need the following materials:
- CDs,
- old postcards,
- napkins with a pattern,
- white acrylic paint,
- gouache,
- beautiful cord,
- pencil,
- scissors,
- hair dryer,
- PVA glue,
- glue "Moment-Crystal".

Sequence of work:
For one stand you need to cut out 2 circles from postcards. Colored cardboard will not work, because... Repeated application of paint and glue will warp. The postcards have a laminated layer on one side and do not warp when applying paint and glue.

Apply Moment glue to the disk and glue the cardboard circle first on one side, then on the other.

The lower part of the stand can be painted with gouache and varnished, or you can leave it as is.

So, let's start decorating the stand. Apply paint, for example green, using a swab.

The paint can be dried with a hairdryer. Then apply PVA glue to the dry surface. The thicker the glue, the smaller the cracks on the surface of the stand will be.

Apply white acrylic paint to the slightly dried glue and quickly dry it with a hairdryer. Under a stream of hot air, cracks form in the paint - crackle.

Cut out your favorite motif from a napkin. If the napkin is multi-layered, then we use only the top layer with the pattern.

Place a napkin on the stand and drip PVA glue

And spread it from the middle to the edges of the motif.

Add a small inscription that will balance the composition.

Cover the mug stand with a layer of thick construction PVA. After complete drying, we decorate the end of the stand with a cord, which we glue using Moment-Crystal glue.

The mug stand is ready.

Another stand and crackle fragment:

And here are the options for decorating the stands:

These mug coasters are convenient to use at work during your lunch break.

Good luck to everyone who wants to repeat this master class!

You can make a great variety of original and useful things from unwanted CDs and DVDs. The author of this idea talks about how you can decorate your kitchen and highlight its style with the help of coasters for mugs with hot drinks. The fact is that you can decorate the coasters with napkins by choosing a color scheme and pattern that matches the theme of your kitchen interior. You can also give a set of such coasters as a gift to your loved ones; to do this, simply select a picture to decorate the coasters that will harmoniously fit into their kitchen interior. Such a gift will be appreciated and will constantly serve as a warm reminder of you.

To bring this author's idea to life you will need:
1. Old CDs and DVDs that you don't use.
2. Thick corrugated cardboard.
3. Scissors.
4. Napkins for decoupage.
5. Simple pencil.
6. PVA construction adhesive.
7. Universal glue.
8. Construction putty.
9. Small spatula.
10. Sandpaper.
11. Alcohol-containing liquid for degreasing.
12. Rags.
13. Acrylic primer.
14. Glossy acrylic varnish.
15. Brushes for applying glue and varnish.
16. Foam sponge.
17. Files or plastic bags.
18. Acrylic paint.

1 step.
To begin, we take corrugated thick cardboard and trace the previously prepared disks on it with a pencil. Then use scissors to cut out circles from cardboard. You can simplify the process a little and, without using a pencil, outline the boundaries of the disk on cardboard using a stationery knife, and the cardboard blanks will immediately turn out to be cut out of cardboard.

Step 2.
Now apply a layer of universal glue to the shiny side of the disc.

Step 3.
Carefully, trying not to stain your fingers with glue, fold the blanks as follows: a disk with glue (glue up), then a circle cut out of cardboard on top and again a disk coated with glue (glue down). The end result should look something like this:

Step 4
Using the method described above, we glue the required number of blanks, then put them one at a time in a file or bag so as not to accidentally stain anything with glue. Now you need to place the blanks under the press for several hours.

Step 5
After the glue has dried, remove the blanks from the files and seal the hole in the middle of the disk using putty.

Step 6
We also seal the end sides of the workpiece with putty. Now wait patiently for the putty to harden.

Step 7
After the putty has completely hardened, we process the workpiece using sandpaper. After all the irregularities and roughness have been removed using emery, we degrease the surfaces of the workpiece using any alcohol-containing liquid. Then, using light tangential movements, apply two layers of acrylic primer to the workpiece. Don't forget to dry each layer thoroughly.

Step 8
Now we decorate the blanks with the previously selected napkins with a pattern. To do this, simply glue the napkins onto the blanks using PVA glue. Let the glue dry time.

Step 9
After the napkin has dried, we will go over the edge of the workpiece with fine sandpaper. This will help you carefully remove the excess pasted napkin.

This is how it should work:

Step 10
Now very carefully paint the end sides of the blanks with acrylic paint. In this case, the author uses brown paint; you can choose the paint that seems more suitable to you.

Step 11
After the paint has dried, coat the mug stands with acrylic varnish in several layers. Dry each layer thoroughly.

As a result, you get such beautiful coasters that will serve as decoration for any kitchen.

Thanks to the author for the idea!

Many people have probably noticed that when you accidentally place a hot cup on varnished or polished furniture, it often leaves behind unpleasant marks that can forever ruin the appearance of the furniture. To prevent this from happening, you need to use special hot pads. Nowadays you can find stands of all shapes and sizes on sale, but it’s much nicer to make this simple thing with your own hands. And for this, an unnecessary CD is the best choice. A little desire, free time and imagination and you will have an original cup stand. Now drinking tea every day at home or at work will become much more enjoyable for you. Don't believe me? I suggest you try...

To work we will need:

CD disk;
- PVA glue;
- Glue stick;
- Napkins with a pattern;
- Stationery file;
- Acrylic paints;
- Brushes;
- Acrylic lacquer;
- Acrylic putty;
- Putty knife;
- Foam sponges;
- Zero-grit sandpaper.

How to make a cup coaster from a CD

We will make a stand for the cup from an old CD. We will process the disk on both sides; on one and the other side we will get a colored drawing made using the decoupage technique.

First of all, we need to close the hole in the disk. To do this, we cut out 2 small circles from plain paper.

and glue them to the hole area on one side and the other.

Now we take acrylic putty and, using a small spatula, apply a thin layer of it to the entire surface of the disk.

We wait for it to dry completely on one side and do the same on the other side.

While the putty is drying, we don’t waste time and prepare drawings from napkins that we plan to paste onto the disc. We tear out or cut out the motifs we like from the napkins,

iron them with a warm iron,

We separate the two white layers of the napkin, leaving only the colored layer, which we will work with in the future.

While we were working with the napkin motifs, the putty on the disc was completely dry. Gently sand uneven areas with sandpaper

and wipe with a damp cloth so that no grains of dust remain.

We treat both surfaces of the disk with PVA glue.

When the glue is completely dry, prime the disc with white acrylic paint and also let it dry completely.

Place the prepared napkin design on a small stationery file and moisten it generously with water.

Carefully drain the excess water and place the drawing along with the file on the disk,

smooth the file with your fingers and remove it.

In a separate container, dilute PVA glue in half with water and apply a fan brush to the design, moving from the center of the disk to the edges.

We try to work so that no folds or air bubbles form under the pattern.

We wait for the disc to dry completely. To speed up the drying process, you can use a hair dryer.

Dry the protruding edges of the napkin thoroughly and carefully sand it with sandpaper.

Cover the surface of the disc with acrylic varnish in one layer.

After the varnish has completely dried, we paint some fragments of the picture with acrylic paints.

We go along the edges of the disk with a sponge with brown paint applied to it.

When the paint has dried, cover the disc with several layers of acrylic varnish, apply about 4-6 layers, dry each layer thoroughly.

Here we have such a cute stand.

Of course, you shouldn’t put a hot saucepan on it, but a cup of tea or coffee – please, the most important thing is that the furniture will not be damaged by the hot cup. Have fun and productive creativity!

The time of CDs has almost passed, many people still have a large number of them - music, films, cartoons, outdated computer programs - with images on them of characters from fairy tales and films, flowers, graphic pictures.

They sparkle and shimmer with all the colors of the rainbow on the one hand, and on the other they have beautiful designs. You don’t feel like throwing them away - and there’s no need to, you can use them to make a lot of original, beautiful and useful things for your home.

In addition, it is very easy to work with them - they already have the correct circle shape, which in some crafts will only need to be slightly changed in order to give the future product or decoration the desired look. At the same time, they are easily cut with ordinary office scissors and glued to a surface made of almost any material.

It happens that some home interior items have lost their appearance, it is not possible to replace them with new ones, or it is simply a pity to throw away an old favorite thing that has served faithfully for many years. Discs will help give things a new life.

For example, you can decorate an old mirror with them, making an original frame from pieces of different shapes and sizes that sparkles and shimmers in the rays of sunlight from a window or in the light of an electric lamp with all the colors of the rainbow.

You can make a beautiful frame for a photo, decorate the edges of the cabinet drawers with a mosaic of pieces of disks.

Frame for mirror or photo

You will need a lot of disks, scissors, paints, glue, thick cardboard, colorless transparent varnish.

First you need to cut out a frame from cardboard in the shape and size of a mirror or photo. Then cut the disks into pieces of different shapes - squares, irregular quadrangles, rhombuses, triangles.

Take glue and stick the figures onto the frame so that there is a distance of one or two millimeters between them. As a result, the frame will have a mosaic of iridescent geometric shapes.

When the glue has dried and the figures cut out from the disk have stuck well, use black ink or paint to carefully and carefully go over the joints of the figures. After this, the frame is coated with transparent varnish, allowed to dry and mounted on a wall with a mirror or photograph.

Mirror frames made from discs look mysterious and original.

If the apartment has interior doors with glass, the glass can also be covered with a mosaic of discs. In this case, there is no need to paint the joints between the pieces, but simply cover everything with transparent varnish, then there will be a feeling of light and space.

Clock made from disks

An option is to purchase a clock mechanism with hands or remove it from an old clock, lay clocks of any configuration on the wall with disks, gluing them to the wall, and strengthen the clock mechanism in the middle.

Decorating walls with discs

On the wall in the room or in the kitchen, you can lay out an interesting composition from disks with beautiful pictures selected by theme. Or you can use them to create your own painting.

To do this, you need to take the disks and paint their shiny side with black ink; when the ink is dry, mark the lines of the future image along it, and then go over them with something sharp - a thick needle, a special scraper or a sharp knife with a thin blade and a sharp tip.

Iridescent lines on a black background will look very beautiful - you can draw anything you like: unusual birds, flowers, an abstract design. And hang the discs on the wall in any order.

Decorating the kitchen with discs

In the kitchen, discs can make an unusual “apron” in the work desk area. It will look extremely original, and in terms of performance properties the discs will not be inferior to tiles - they are just as easy to clean from splashes of grease and juice from vegetables and fruits.

The principle of working with them is the same as with frames for mirrors and photographs - just stick them on the wall.

Whether for a room or a kitchen, you can make a mosaic panel from disks by gluing pieces of the desired shape and color onto cardboard, and then covering the composition with transparent varnish.

Household items made from discs

The discs will make an excellent hot plate. In this case, the disk will play the role of the base; you need to put a nice cover made of fabric on it, and the stand is ready.

It would be original to update the tabletop of a coffee table with cut pieces of disks. To do this, cut them, fix them on the tabletop using a plasticizer in any order or by making a pattern out of the pieces, and then fill the tabletop with a thin layer of transparent varnish, making it even.

The coating will be durable. The tabletop will sparkle and shimmer beautifully.

You can make a holder for women's earrings from two disks and a thick tree branch.

The core of the stand is made from a smoothly processed branch, ground to the diameter of the hole in the center of the disks, one disk will be the base, the second shelf, make holes in it and insert the earrings into them.

How to decorate a suburban area with discs

There is room for creativity and imagination. For example, you can make a flower bed out of old car tires and wheels by decorating the outer surface of the tires with a mosaic of shiny pieces.

Or you can cut a peacock out of a rubber tire, and make a tail from whole round disks - to do this, you need to glue them in pairs with their shiny sides facing out, and then make them into a large triangle-tail, gluing the pairs of glued blanks overlapping.

On a country fence made of disks you can depict a huge iridescent caterpillar. You can paint the disks to look like a ladybug - red paint, make spots with black and draw a head, and plant them on fruit bushes and trees.

New Year's decorations from disks

Due to the fact that the discs shimmer in the rays of light with all the colors of the rainbow, they will make beautiful snowflakes for the New Year holiday - they are easily cut with scissors, you can cut out the most intricate pattern. You can hang snowflakes on the Christmas tree and on the walls.

You can cut the disks into small pieces, thickly cover an ordinary ball with them and hang it from the ceiling on a thread - it will rotate and sparkle, reflecting the lights of New Year's garlands.

The application can be very different. You can use discs to make an interior curtain similar to a bamboo curtain - assemble the discs on long threads. They can make an ultra-modern necklace, a refrigerator magnet, a vase, a candlestick, a stand for ballpoint pens and pencils, a box, or even decorate a summer bag.

Unneeded CDs are an excellent material for creativity, a way to spend leisure time - making certain things from them, and an opportunity to decorate a house or cottage in an original and unusual way without spending a lot of money.
