Scrolling with the mouse wheel does not work well. What to do if the mouse does not scroll the page? Blocking by third party software

The mouse does not scroll the page.

If you encounter such a problem when, while browsing the Internet via browser If your mouse wheel suddenly stops scrolling, you shouldn’t think that everything is so bad. This is a fairly common problem and it can be solved very simply.
Below I will give the procedure, in order of complexity.
1) Open Microsoft Word or any other
text editor , but Word is still better.
In the new document, we calmly scroll the page up and down with the mouse wheel, make sure that everything works, close Word and enjoy the working scrolling of the pages.
If it doesn’t help, then read on.
2) Open the control panel and look there Mouse, then look at the settings to make sure everything is in order

3) Checking

driver on the mouse in Device Manager and try to reinstall or update it.

It is best to remove the driver, unplug the mouse, then plug it in again and the system should find the driver itself.
Or you need a disk (if any) with mouse drivers. Or download from the Internet in advance.

4) Try plugging in the plug

mice to another connector.
5) Inspect the mouse wire, “squeeze” it. Maybe it's shorted out somewhere.
6) Inspect the mouse itself, if possible, disassemble and repair it yourself. Pay special attention to the wheel. Of course, you need to have straight hands and a sober mind
7) Nothing helped? Buy a new one.
That's all. Most often, the first point helps (I personally verified it), but otherwise, if anything is not clear, write in the comments and I will describe the procedure in more detail.
Oh yes. I’ll write one last time how can you control page scrolling without a mouse wheel (keyboard).
1) We take the mouse pointer by the right “slider” and drag it up/down.
2) On
keyboard there are keys Pg Up And Pg Dn which are responsible for scrolling the page up and down, respectively. Click and you will be happy.
3) Press the key Space- this will scroll the page down. To scroll up - press together Shift + space

Perhaps one of the most common breakdowns is problems with the scroll wheel. As I already noted, there are two types of such breakdowns:

1. The wheel does not work completely ( I discuss this case in the article).
2. The wheel works, but in jerks.

Here I am considering the second option, when the pages on the screen scroll jerkily up and down, and not smoothly, as expected. This indicates that the mouse scroll mechanism has become loose. By the way, this problem is a characteristic feature of X7 mice from A4Tech. It occurs in almost any model of this series after six months of active use. However, sometimes this behavior is related to the settings of the mouse or a specific program. For example, this may be why .

There are three ways to repair a loose scroll mechanism:

I. Lubricating the scroll mechanism

This is a method for those whose scrolling mechanism has not yet completely worn out, as well as to prevent problems with scrolling in new mice.I strongly recommend starting your renovation with this method!

1. Disassemble the mouse

To begin with, if your mouse wheel does not work (it moves jerkily), you need to disassemble its body. One screw is usually visible, another is hidden under a sticker. In some models, a couple more screws may be under the legs. Notice how the mouse cord was located in the case.

2. Clean the sensor

Having disassembled the case, you will immediately notice a wheel inserted into a special mechanism. It is he who is responsible for scrolling pages on the screen. You need to drop 2-3 drops of alcohol on it, then turn the wheel and blow it out with your mouth. The operation must be repeated several times.

3. Lubricate

For lubrication you need high-quality liquid oil. It should not be thin like water, but thick enough to drip. You can also use silicone lubricant, for example in aerosol cans, which are available in any auto store.

Silicone lubricant in aerosol cans.

You need to drop 1-2 drops inside the scroll mechanism, then spin the wheel to better distribute the lubricant. Remove excess if oil leaks out.

II. Fixation with metal staples

This method should be used if the scrolling mechanism is already completely loose and lubrication no longer helps. Wayeffective in cases wheremouse wheel doesn't work , however somewhat labor intensive and requires soldering iron skills.

1. Again, disassemble the mouse (see previous paragraphs)

2. Install the staples

Now you need to make metal brackets with which to secure the scroll mechanism.

There are two options here:

a) Without soldering. You can make two U-shaped brackets from metal plates (for example, from car wiring terminals). Such staples will be attached by crimping with pliers without using soldering. This method is preferable, since staples attached by soldering may fall off during subsequent disassembly. I think there is nothing complicated in this method. For a better understanding, look at the photo:

Don't forget to lubricate the scroll upon completion of work (see point I).

b) With soldering. Also, staples can be made from copper wire approximately 1 mm thick. Other metals will not be suitable, since due to their high elasticity they are difficult to compress, and they are also difficult to solder.

The brackets are made in the form of an equal angle. A piece of wire is fixed in a vice and then carefully bent at a right angle. You can bend it with pliers or by gently tapping it with a hammer. The ends of the staples are lightly filed with a file to give them a flat shape.

The final stage: pre-prepared staples are soldered at one end to the metal side of the scroll. Instead of long explanations, I suggest you carefully consider this photo:

The soldered corners can be pressed a little more with pliers, but this must be done extremely carefully and only if the quality of the soldering allows it. The interfering ends of the staples (if any) are filed off with a file.

At the end of the work, it won’t hurt to lubricate the scroll mechanism (see point I). This will avoid oxidation and increase the service life of the scroll.

III. Preloading the encoder (“wheel sensor”)

This method is also used for seriously loose scroll mechanisms. It is much simpler and less labor-intensive than the previous method, but less effective. A scroll repaired in this way will begin to act up again in a month and a half to two months, and subsequent repairs will last for an even shorter period.

1. Disassemble the mouse (see previous paragraphs)

2. Press the encoder (“wheel sensor”)

Having disassembled the case, you will immediately notice a wheel inserted into a special mechanism. It is he who is responsible for scrolling pages on the screen. Now, using pliers, you need to tighten this mechanism a little. This must be done very carefully. Remember: you can always tighten it up a little more, but you can’t restore an already broken scroll mechanism.

This is what the scroll mechanism looks like. The arrows indicate the places that need to be tightened.

You can make a thin spacer in the hole where the wheel pin is inserted (electrical tape is ideal for this). Now it will fit more tightly to the scroll mechanism.

3. Check functionality

When finished, you need to check how the wheel turns. If necessary, you can press it a little more. Then the mouse body is assembled.

Now you know what to do ifThe mouse wheel does not work (it moves jerkily) . And if you are interested in what to do if the mouse double-clicks, then you can read about it in the article.

The mouse is the most convenient pointing device that exists today for a personal computer. It was created in 1968, but it has not lost its relevance and recognition to this day. But since each person is individual, the mouse parameters cannot be averaged for everyone. That is why there is a section in the Control Panel where you can customize all the parameters of the manipulator. Setting up a mouse in Windows 7 is easy.

How to adjust mouse sensitivity

The first inconvenience that a user may encounter when working with a mouse is its sensitivity. Different models of such manipulators have different amounts of DPI, or optical resolution of the mouse, due to which, among other things, the speed of cursor movement is determined. For this reason, the new mouse may “run” across the screen too quickly or too slowly. Well, why not take it back to the store? So we will correct the not entirely convenient speed.

To start adjusting the sensitivity of our mouse, you should open the Control Panel. This can be done very easily - press the Win + R combination and enter the word control. After clicking on the standard OK, the required window will open. Here our goal is the “Mouse” section, which can be seen if you set the display of all elements.

Click on this section - a new small window will open with a bunch of tabs. Of these, one is needed now: “Pointer Parameters”.

On this tab you can set in detail exactly how our cursor will move. If you are only concerned about its speed, just change the position of the very first slider, setting the required amount of sensitivity. You can check the speed right there by simply moving the mouse. In this case, it is desirable that increased installation accuracy be turned on, otherwise the pointer will dangle in space like a leaf in the wind.

By the way, if you find it difficult to find the cursor on the monitor, in the “Visibility” section you can set the display of the pointer using the CTRL key (the very last checkbox) or display its trace when moving (the first checkbox).

After making changes, it is enough to apply them, and you will no longer have to suffer with a lack or excess of sensitivity.

How to adjust the mouse wheel

In some cases, we, just like the speed of the mouse, may not be satisfied with the operation of its wheel. As a rule, the wheel pitch of all manipulators differs in softness or speed. If it is too tight and clear, the page may scroll too slowly, and if it is almost not felt, then too quickly. Therefore, this parameter can be configured separately for each mouse.

If you have already closed the mouse settings window, then open it again using the method described above and go to the “Wheel” tab. We will see only two settings - for scrolling information in the window horizontally and vertically with one “click” of the wheel. First of all, we are interested in vertical scrolling, since not all mice have horizontal scrolling.

By the way, it’s very easy to find out whether your mouse supports horizontal scrolling. Try tilting the wheel to the right or left. If it works, it means there is still support for horizontal scrolling.

In this tab, set the parameters at your discretion. Remember only one thing - the fewer lines or characters are scrolled at a time, the slower the window will scroll in principle, and vice versa. You need to select this parameter directly for the user and his device. Then you need to apply the settings and close the window for changing wheel parameters.

Other useful settings

In addition to the standard settings, you can also change some specific ones. This is very useful when the use of the mouse is somewhat different from the usual one, regulated by the system and initial parameters.

Mouse buttons

Here you can adjust the mouse “for a left-hander” by checking the “Change button values” checkbox, adjust the speed of double-clicking the left mouse button, and also enable such a useful function as sticking.

Signposts

A great tab for those who want to personalize even their mouse pointer. There are a large number of types available, you can adjust:

  • Color (black, inverse or white)
  • Size (from small to huge in three positions)
  • Appearance (modern Aero short tail or retro long tail standard).
  • The presence or absence of a shadow under the cursor.

If you cannot use the mouse scroll wheel in the Windows 10 Start menu for the All apps list, this is due to the Mouse Setting - “Scroll inactive windows when hovering over them.”

When you press the Start button, the All apps list appears by default (Anniversary Update), the problem is that, but the focus is not set to view the All apps list automatically, to set it you need to right-click on any element or on the scrollbar, scrolling will start work.

In order to be able to scroll the All Apps list without first setting focus on it, you need to enable a feature where you can scroll inactive windows or UI elements simply by hovering your mouse over them.

Scrolling inactive windows when hovering over them

Press the key combination Win + I, in the Windows Settings application that opens, go to:

Devices - Mouse

On the right side, under the inscription: “Scroll inactive windows when hovering over them,” move the slider to the ON position.

Setting up a mouse in Windows 10

The mouse is the peripheral device that the user works with the most, but pays the least attention to when setting it up. Wouldn't using a mouse in Windows 10 become easier and more convenient if you spent a few minutes configuring it? Let's see.

Launch the mouse settings window

To select the mouse configuration dialog, go to the “Control Panel”.

We look for the applet of the same name and call it.

Subsequently, a window will open, where all the parameters of this manipulator available to the user are collected. It is identical to Windows 7-10, so an experienced user will not see anything new.

Mouse buttons

The first tab allows you to invert the assignment of the manipulator buttons.

This option is suitable for disabled people and people who have temporarily lost the use of their right hand.

If double-clicking does not open files and folders, most likely you should reduce the value of this parameter.

Changing the appearance of the cursor

The second tab is designed to change the appearance of the pointer in Windows 10. If in XP there were a lot of interesting options, then for the “ten” beautiful cursors need to be downloaded additionally. After unpacking the archive, select the index type, click “Browse” and set its type.

By default, the program displays pointers located in Windows\Cursor, so it is recommended to add new ones to this directory.

Adjusting the speed of pointer movement

Windows 10 allows you to change the speed at which the pointer moves. When using inexpensive devices, as a rule, the speed has to be increased, and for some cases, when the speed of moving the pointer is not enough, it is recommended to sacrifice increased accuracy of cursor positioning.

Save time

In Windows, starting in the 90s, it became possible to move the mouse cursor to the default button. After any information windows or dialogs with buttons “Yes”, “No”, “Ok”, “Cancel” appear, the cursor will be automatically moved to one of them, which saves a fraction of a second for changing its position manually. Little things, but nice.

Fast scrolling

There are situations when you need to quickly scroll through a significant amount of text using the manipulator wheel. But this takes a lot of time, because each page is flipped through in 3-5 approaches. Windows 10 has the ability to increase the number of lines scrolled per rotation of the wheel.

Problems with the operation of the manipulator

Since we're talking about the mouse, let's look at solutions to the most common problems with the device in Windows 10.

Users often complain about problems with the mouse after switching to the “ten”. They are as follows:

  • after waking up from sleep or hibernation, the mouse does not work;
  • sometimes the wheel refuses to function;
  • the cursor moves intermittently even with the increased precision option enabled;
  • the manipulator periodically disconnects and then connects again, which can be judged by the sounds of connecting/disconnecting the device to USB.

In different situations, conflicts are resolved in different ways. Below are only general recommendations for eliminating them.

  • The first thing you need to do is connect the device to another port, preferably standard 2.0.
  • Call “Device Manager”, expand the “Mouse and other...” category, use the context menu to call the “Update” command and specify automatic search for new software.

If it doesn’t help, remove the driver and give Windows 10 the opportunity to install it itself.

  • Download a functioning driver for the “eight” and install it on the “ten” through the “Device Manager”.
  • Enable fast boot in UEFI and activate the full USB initialization option.

  • We perform a clean boot of the OS (without third-party software) and check whether the mouse works normally.

To boot Windows cleanly, go to the system configuration (msconfig), check the “Do not show Microsoft services” checkbox on the “Services” tab. In the task manager, disable autorun of all programs on the same tab. After identifying the problem, do not forget to return all parameters back!!!

If everything is fine, one of the programs or services you are starting is causing the problem. Using elimination, identify the culprit and update it. If it doesn't help, you'll have to replace the application with an alternative one.

Often the source of the problem is antivirus programs, pay attention to this.

Setting up scrolling in Windows 10

woodhummer 01/26/2016 - 09:37 Workshop

Probably all users know about scrolling using the mouse wheel, and use it successfully. Windows 10 OS allows you to select the parameters of this scrolling, in particular, increase or decrease the number of lines scrolled in one step of the wheel. Let's look at two ways to configure this parameter.

Using the "Options" section

Using the Mouse Properties section

P.S.

We figured out how to set the number of lines scrolled per click of the mouse wheel in Windows 10.

The most vulnerable point of all mice is the wheel. One can only guess why the entire mechanism is made of fragile plastic, but it breaks often. It seems like a small thing, but without a wheel it’s very inconvenient to work and this mouse is simply thrown out. Here I will describe two most common problems(which I tested myself), and I’ll tell you how I solved them. Repair in 5 minutes, and the money saved can be spent on girls)

Problem 1. The wheel spins freely, but the computer does not react to it at all.

2. If we see broken hex pin- don't panic.

3. Take out the wheel.

4. Take the usual one, iron paper clip.

a. Straightening the paperclip b. Fold in half c. We twist

5. Using wire cutters, “bite off” a twisted paperclip of such length (from the bent end) that after fusing it into the wheel, it will come out of the scrolling mechanism by 1-2 mm. In my case, the length of the cut end should be 12 mm. Don't forget to take 1-2 mm more, because... they melt inside the wheel.

6. Use pliers to pinch the cut part (holding it by the ear).

7. We bring it to the burning gas burner (on which we cook food). If you have an electric stove, use a lighter, or better yet, a turbo lighter. The point is that the tip of this paper clip must be red hot.

8. After heating it to red hot, quickly melt this piece of paper clip into the center of the wheel (in the broken place)

9. Floated. We check the strength and insert the wheel into place.

10. Check whether the paperclip mechanism rotates when the wheel is scrolled.

11. If not, then cut off 5 mm of wire from the remaining piece of the paperclip and carefully drive it into the place where it scrolls (between the mechanism and the wire soldered into the wheel)

12.Make sure that the wheel scrolls smoothly and does not press on anything while scrolling.

Problem 2. When scrolling with the wheel, sometimes the screen “jerks” (as if it was turned sharply up and then down) or there is a feeling that the wheel is sometimes scrolling.

This problem exists, in my opinion, on all mice from the company. a4tech(especially rulers x7). It does not appear immediately, but after six months of heavy use.

1. Unscrew all the screws and open the mouse.
2. Remove the wheel and see the mechanism and 4 iron clips on it.

3. Press these clamps as tightly as possible (do not break the mechanism)

4. As an additional step, you can make a thin spacer in the middle hole, such as electrical tape, to help the hex pin on the wheel fit more tightly to the mechanism.

All. If I described something incomprehensibly, write in the comments, I’ll explain it in my fingertips. If these solutions don’t help, describe the situation and we’ll come up with something together.
