Creating and setting up a home network

1. Select the computer from which the creation of the local network will begin, and connect it to network equipment. To do this on both sides crimp the cable and using RJ-45 connectors we connect it to the ports of the switch and the network card of our computer.

Any additional settings an unmanaged switch does not require: we only need to register correct settings the local network itself in the operating system of each PC

2. To do this, go to the settings of the computer’s network card (read: windows 8 and windows XP) and write there IP-address of this PC. Typically, the following IP addresses are used here: 192.168.1., 192.168.0;

3. Repeat points 1-2 for each computer connected to the network.

Important: the last digit of the IP address of each subsequent PC must differ from the previous one (in the range indicated above): so, if the first computer was assigned IP 192.168.1.1, the second PC will have it 192.168.1.2, the third will have 192.168.1.3, and so on.

When all computers are connected, we check our local network for functionality.

You can do this in two ways:

2 How to set up a local network

First, we need to finally make sure that each wire is connected to the hub in the correct order. We can find out about the presence of a connection from the Control Panel menu - Network connections.

If there is no connection, you should check whether all ends of the twisted pair are crimped and whether the switch is connected to the power supply. So here we see that the computer icon has activated, this means that you can go to the settings.

After this, you need to select one of the active connections if there are several of them, right-click and go to the “Properties” menu item.

The dialog box that appears contains a list of components that are used in the process of connecting to the network. Select the TCP/IP protocol from the list and go to its properties.

Initially, all settings are unavailable because by default the network is configured automatically, which is extremely unnecessary for us. We activate the “Use the following IP address” switch and go to the available settings.

Select the edit fields below. The first field "IP address" specifies the virtual network address (this can be compared to your home address only in virtual space). The following values ​​must be entered in the field: 192.168.1.x, where “x” is any integer from 1 to 255.

After you have assigned all computers an IP address and subnet masks, you need to assign each computer its own individual name and workgroup.

3 Checking the functionality of the local network
