Lenovo ideapad 100 description. Appearance, arrangement of elements

Recently, Lenovo has especially pleased its fans with additions to model ranges laptops. It is noteworthy that a variety of models are produced, both budget and premium. In this review we will focus on a representative of the inexpensive segment – IdeaPad 100-15, aimed at meeting the daily needs of computer users.

This 15-inch gadget can hardly be called executive, but it will fit perfectly into a home or office interior. It’s also not super powerful, but it’s a great option for “everyday” use! Well, let's not beat around the bush and get closer to the point.

Design

The manufacturer states that the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 is an entry-level device. He assures that the gadget will be suitable for those users who are just starting to master laptops, as well as for everyone who does not see the point of spending unnecessarily on them. Accordingly, the engineers didn’t do much with the appearance of the laptop. Firstly, it is completely plastic, practical black. The lid has an interesting textured coating that is pleasant to the touch. Although it does retain fingerprints, it is not so active that it poses a problem. There is a small company logo at the top and nothing else.

When you open the laptop, you immediately notice the high hinges, which create a decent gap. This does not affect the functionality in any way, but overall it looks pretty good. The screen is surrounded by a not very wide frame, on the top edge of which there is a webcam. The under-palm surface is also plastic, and also black. The keyboard and touchpad look quite comfortable.

The dimensions of the laptop are as follows: 378x265x23 mm, and the weight is 2.31 kg. In general, you can confidently throw it into your bag and not be afraid of excess weight on your shoulder. But with the build quality, not everything is so simple: the cover is easily deformed if you press on it, so you should be careful about accidental impact on the body of the device, so as not to damage its integrity.

Display, sound and webcam

Regardless of which configuration you choose, the screen characteristics will be identical in each. Thus, the device is equipped with a 15.6-inch display with a rather modest, by today’s standards, HD resolution (1366x768 pixels) and a pixel density per inch of 100 ppi. As you've probably already guessed, the screen is not this laptop's strong point, and you don't need to be an expert to understand that. The maximum brightness level does not even reach 250 cd/m2; things are better with contrast – 546:1. Compliance with the sRGB gamma is only 54%, and AdobeRGB is even less - 47%, and these figures are considered quite low. Color rendition, in general, also leaves much to be desired: the image turns out pale and unrealistic.

The display is based on a TN matrix, so viewing angles are very limited. In addition, it is better not to use the laptop outdoors, because due to the glossy surface and lack of anti-reflective coating, it will be extremely difficult to see anything on the screen. Of course, all these facts are clearly not in favor of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15, but what can you do, it’s a budget laptop.

The device has only 1 speaker located above the keyboard. The advantage of this location is that it is directed directly at the user, and therefore will not be distorted and sound booming, like from a barrel. However, there is no need to talk about good sound quality either; in particular, bass and low frequencies are practically inaudible. In principle, the sound should be sufficient for daily watching movies and listening to music, otherwise you can always use headphones.

A 0.3 megapixel webcam, of course, won’t work miracles either. No, its capabilities will be enough for video communication, but no more.

Keyboard and touchpad

The under-palm surface is made of fairly hard plastic, on which fingerprints readily remain, and dust also accumulates. As in the vast majority of modern laptops, the keyboard in this case is made according to the island principle. It has not too large square-shaped keys with white markings.

There are no features that would distinguish the keyboard from others: for example, the button is single-row, both have very modest sizes. The arrow block is located close to the numpad, and therefore is easy to hit. As for the laptop's power button, it is located above the keyboard, in the left corner. The key has round shape, as well as tangible boundaries, making it easy to find in the dark. Unfortunately, there is no backlight, which, again, is typical for budget-level laptops. The buttons have an average travel and good feedback, but we cannot say that the keyboard turned out to be successful. Or rather, it’s not like that: if you type on it from time to time, you won’t feel any discomfort, but working on it for a long time will still not be entirely comfortable.

As for the touchpad, it is located directly below the spacebar and slightly shifted to the left. It is tactilely very pleasant, at least, fingers glide over it without difficulty. There is support for basic multi-touch gestures, such as zooming, dragging, etc. The manipulator has a solid horizontal physical button, which replaces similar mouse keys.

Performance

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 (80MJ00AURK) laptop runs on the Windows 10 Home 64-bit operating system. By the way, this is not the only OS option, and depending on the selected configuration, the user also has access to pre-installed Windows 8.1 or even DOS.

As for the “heart” of this laptop, it is the quad-core Intel Pentium N3540 processor. Its initial frequency is 2.16 GHz, but thanks to Burst technology it can increase up to 2.66 GHz. The chip is made according to the standards of the 22-nm process technology, it has 2 MB of Level 2 cache and is considered energy efficient, because it consumes no more than 7.5 W. The integrated Intel HD Graphics (Bay Trail) supports DirectX 11, Shader 5.0, and its maximum frequency is 792 MHz. The symbiosis of the chip and this video accelerator allows us to talk about the performance of the filling, sufficient to perform daily simple tasks. It is clear that with more or less modern games such filling is not possible.

By the way, Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 has a wide model range, where the user is offered more powerful hardware components to choose from. For example, you can choose an Intel Core i3-5005U chip or an Intel Core i5-5200U chip, which can work well with a discrete video accelerator NVIDIA GeForce 920M. Performance evaluation would be incomplete without mentioning memory. Thus, the amount of RAM is 2 GB of DDR3-1333 MHz standard and this is quite enough for an entry-level laptop. If we talk about information storage, then it is carried out hard drive 500 GB with a spindle speed of 5400 rpm.

Ports and communications

It just so happens that budget laptops don’t pamper their customers too much with interfaces, but the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15, at first glance, has everything you need for comfortable work. On the right side is located optical drive DVD-RW, next to which there is a slot for a Kensington lock.

The left side has USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI video output, an RJ-45 network connector, a combined audio jack and, of course, a socket for charging the laptop, as well as a Novo button.

There is nothing at the back, but at the front you can see a 4-in-1 card reader (SD/SDHC/SDXC/MMC).

Wireless communications are the most common, namely Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0.

Battery

3-section lithium polymer battery with a capacity of 24 Wh can hardly demonstrate high autonomous results, rather, on the contrary. Testing was carried out with the Wi-Fi connection turned on and with an average brightness level. As a result, we have the following indicators: the device lasted almost 4 hours in web surfing mode, watching HD video discharged it in about the same time (3 hours 40 minutes), and the gaming session lasted less than 3 hours. Thus, this laptop is designed to be in close proximity to an outlet, and lasting the entire day on a single charge is out of the question.

Conclusion

It's no secret that Lenovo is a diverse company when it comes to the devices it produces. We have already repeatedly introduced you to its premium models, as well as mid-level laptops. However, this time we present a not very expensive laptop – IdeaPad 100-15. It is equipped with a 15.6-inch TN screen with very mediocre quality and not the best viewing angles. At the same time, a weak battery can be called a serious drawback of the gadget.

However, the IdeaPad 100-15 laptop has a fairly wide range of modifications. Depending on the filling, you can easily select a model that best suits user needs. Moreover, even the top-end configuration has a quite adequate price tag, which will appeal to most. What can we say about the configuration we chose, designed to perform everyday simple tasks, costing around $300!

The conclusion is this: despite the fact that the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 is a simple laptop, without any “tricks”, it is guaranteed to have admirers. The device is an ideal option for users who do not want to overpay, but who need a laptop for working with documents, surfing the web, watching movies, listening to music, etc. In short, the device can become a true friend for everyone!

Top-end devices always attract a lot of interest, but the lion's share of sales is made up of solutions in the lower and middle price ranges. Everything is quite logical: why overpay for unused power, if many users need a computer primarily for surfing the Internet, working with office packages, watching videos or running not too demanding online games. Laptop manufacturers understand all this very well, which is clearly evident from the very wide variety of lines in these ranges. In this review, we will once again get acquainted with one of these laptops -.

It features a 15.6-inch display and processor Intel Core i5-4288U with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD, and also boasts an NVIDIA GeForce 920MX mobile graphics card. Quite a worthy combination for a wide range of tasks. Let's see what it can do in practice.

Delivery and configuration

Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD is supplied in standard packaging made of colorless cardboard. The only decorations are the manufacturer's logo and a couple of stickers with service information.

The package includes the usual gentleman's kit: a compact power supply with a replaceable cable and a set of user documentation.

Appearance, arrangement of elements

The design of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD is quite simple and well recognizable. It looks quite nice and not completely boring, but without any frills. The body is completely plastic: the outside has a fine “waffle” texture, and the inside is simply rough. The surfaces themselves, although matte, are like a magnet for dust and fingerprints, which are clearly visible in the light. To avoid looking sloppy, proper care will be required. Fortunately, everything can be cleaned up quite simply with improvised means.

In terms of dimensions and weight (378 x 265 x 22.6 mm and 2.3 kg), we have a typical “tag”. The laptop cannot be called ultra-compact, and it is more designed for use in stationary conditions at home or in the office, but if necessary, it can be taken with you on the road.

The display unit is mounted with two standard hinges located almost along the edges of the base. The hinges are quite tight, you won’t be able to open them with one hand, but the fixation is simply excellent.

For convenience, there are protrusions in the front part, so there will be no problems with prying.

The opening angle is a standard 135°, which should be enough for normal use conditions. The bezels around the display are quite large (16 mm on the side, 21 mm on the top, 36 mm on the bottom), but most models in this price range suffer from this.

On the working surface, in addition to the keyboard and touchpad, there was a place for stereo speakers in the form of a perforated area under the display.

All interfaces of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD are located on the left side. Here you can find: a power connector, RJ45, HDMI, USB 2.0, USB 3.0 ports and a combined 3.5 mm audio jack. The cooling system grille is located closer to the display, and on the opposite side there is a power button. On the right there is only room for an optional optical drive and a Kensington security lock. The back side is empty, while the front side is huddled LED indicators charging and activity, as well as a card reader. Given the sufficient amount of space on the sides, it was possible to equip the laptop with a large number of connectors or space them further apart, because even the connection charger can partially block the release of heated air outside the housing.

The laptop base is solid. There is a set of familiar rubber feet and an abundance of perforated places for CO air intake.

As for the build quality of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD, everything is quite good: the parts fit quite well, there are no critical gaps, there is only play at the plug in place of the optical drive. Rigidity is also within normal limits - the display lid flexes a little, and the under-palm area and base are pliable only in the case of deliberate and strong pressure.

Input devices

The tested model is equipped with a full-size island-type keyboard (333.5 x 100 mm) with an additional numeric keypad.

The keyboard itself is secured quite well and does not press through during operation. The keycaps are flat, and they are based on the familiar scissor-membrane mechanism, which has a short and very quiet stroke with comfortable tactile feedback. All of them have fairly large dimensions: the main ones are 14.5 x 14.5 mm; digital block- 14.5 x 14.5 mm; functional - 13 x 9.5 mm; arrows - 14.5 x 14.5 mm. By the way, by default the [F] keys perform additional actions, and activation occurs through a combination with (can be changed in the BIOS). Overall the keyboard is great for use, but the different key sizes and increased key spacing (4.5mm) will take some getting used to.

The application of symbolic elements is carried out using the printing method in a single color design for the main and function keys. There is also a Cyrillic layout, but there is no backlight.

A small trackpad (90 x 46 mm) is slightly recessed into the palm area and is complemented by two physical buttons as a single element. Touchpad not the most comfortable due to its rough coating, since the finger slides reluctantly, although the sensitivity is at a more or less sane level. There is support for gestures, although not all (touching with two fingers (RMB) does not work, only with a button). In the absence of a mouse, it is quite possible to work on it when performing undemanding everyday tasks.

Display, webcam, sound

Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD is equipped with a 15.6-inch display (BOEhydis NT156WHM-N12) with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels and a pixel density of 100 PPI. Of course, the resolution is not high, but users who are not spoiled by flagship laptops and smartphones will be quite satisfied. The matrix itself is made using TN+Film technology and has a glossy finish with LED backlighting. Vertical viewing angles are small, horizontal viewing angles are quite good, which is typical for of this type matrices As for color rendition, the resulting picture looks somewhat faded, with a clear bias towards cool shades, and at the same time is characterized by a modest level of contrast. The display is clearly not suitable for working with graphics or photographs. But for work purposes and unpretentious video viewing, it’s quite suitable.

The brightness adjustment range is sufficient for working in the dark or indoors. But even if you sit in sunny weather near the window, the picture becomes difficult to distinguish, and the glossy coating actively catches glare. Plus, when running on battery power, the backlight brightness goes into automatic mode and changes depending on the displayed image.

Here it is worth understanding that we are dealing with a typical inexpensive display that is installed in thousands of similar laptops.

Key screen parameters are summarized in the following table:

sRGB space coverage, %

Adobe RGB space coverage, %

Average deviation dE*94 (E)

White point color temperature, K

Maximum / minimum brightness, cd/m2

Black field brightness, cd/m2

Contrast

Average gamma

In the center above the display there is a very simple webcam with a resolution of 640 x 360 (360p), and next to it there is only an operation indicator, while the microphone is nestled under the left key. It is quite noisy and has a very narrow viewing angle (from a normal distance for working on a laptop, only half of your face fits), but even then it should be fine for Skype.

The audio subsystem of the device is based on the Conexant CX20751/2 HDA codec, and the area for the speakers is located above the keyboard. They are moderately loud. The sound is characterized by the absence of lows and more or less tolerable mids and highs. The speakers are quite suitable for YouTube viewing or TV series, and to listen to music it is better to immediately acquire the appropriate acoustics or headphones.

Hardware platform and performance

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD has an interesting 2-core/4-thread Intel Core i5-4288U processor from the Intel Haswell family. Basic clock frequency Its operating speed is 2.6 GHz, and the dynamic frequency can rise to 3.1 GHz. The TDP level does not exceed 28 W. By the way, this “pebble” was also used in Apple MacBook Pro 2013.

The processor integrates an Intel Iris Graphics 5100 graphics core with 40 compute units (EU), but without additional eDRAM cache. It is characterized by support for API DirectX 12, OpenCL 1.2 / 2.0, OpenGL 4.3 and DirectCompute 5.0. The base clock frequency of the video accelerator is at 200 MHz, and the dynamic one increases to 1200 MHz.

In addition to the integrated video adapter, the laptop has a full-fledged NVIDIA GeForce 920MX mobile video card. It is built on the basis GPU NVIDIA GM108 (Maxwell) and has 256 CUDA cores and 16 texture units. The volume of built-in DDR3 memory is 2 GB, and its effective frequency is at 1800 MHz. In addition, NVIDIA GeForce 920MX has support for almost all popular technologies and APIs: DirectX 12, OpenGL 4.5, Shader Model 5.0 and NVIDIA PhysX.

The CPU RAM controller supports DDR3L-1333/1600 standard modules in 2-channel mode with a maximum capacity of up to 16 GB. In this case, one module (Samsung M471B1G73EB0-YK0) is installed with 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 MHz standard. In the future it will be possible to add another plank.

The disk subsystem of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD laptop is represented by a Samsung MZYTY256HDHP-000L2 SSD drive with a capacity of 256 GB. This volume should be enough for most ordinary users, of course, unless you plan to store a lot of video content or raw photos on your laptop. Offhand: the OS, main programs and even a couple of heavy games will take approximately 120-160 GB. And it has long been easier to find your favorite films, TV series or music of interest online, given the availability of broadband Internet. As for the SSD itself, we have very good speed performance (560 / 533 MB/s with sequential reading and writing), close to bandwidth himself SATA interface 6 Gbps.

Wireless communication is carried out via a combined network adapter Realtek RTL8723BE. It can transmit data using Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi standards. True, the latter is capable of operating only in one band (2.4 GHz) and does not support the 802.11ac protocol. Wired connection performed using the Realtek RTL8139/810x module. Everything works quite standard, without any complaints.

The model under review falls into the hands of the user without an operating system, so for testing we installed 64-bit Windows 10 Pro.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD has more than enough power for the average user. Its capabilities are enough for comfortable work with the Internet, mail, instant messengers, office programs, viewing and listening to various types of media content and basic photo processing. Why, you can safely edit amateur videos. Although the laptop is far from being a gaming laptop, if you wish, you can use it to play projects like World of Warcraft, World of Tanks, Heroes of the Storm, Dota 2, DIRT Rally, CS: GO and Rocket League, even at medium graphics settings. Thanks to the initially low display resolution, games like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Battlefield 1 or DOOM (2016) can also be called playable on minimum graphics settings.

Cooling system, noise level and temperature conditions

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD laptop case has an active cooling system. Cool air is taken in through meshes on the base, and heated air is discharged through holes on the left side. The air temperature in the testing laboratory at the time of measurements was 27°C.

When idle or when performing simple everyday tasks, the temperature inside the laptop case did not rise above 48°C, and the CO itself worked very quietly. When launching gaming applications (World of Tanks and Battlefield 1) or stress tests, the indicators rose to 71-78°C. In both cases the noise was already noticeable, but it was not annoying and remained quite comfortable for long work behind the device. There is heating of the case, but it cannot be said that it is particularly strong. Everything is within acceptable limits.

Power supply, battery and time battery life

The model we tested came with a 65-watt unit Lenovo power supply ADLX65NDC3A. The input signal parameters are 100 - 240 V at a current of 1.5 A and a frequency of 50 - 60 Hz. At the output we get 20 V at 3.25 A. During operation, it heated up to the usual 40 - 45 ° C.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD is equipped with a non-removable 4-cell lithium-ion battery with a modest capacity of 1896 mAh (31.7 Wh, 16.7 V).

In Full HD video mode with maximum screen brightness, the laptop worked for 2 hours and 18 minutes. At maximum load created using the Battery Eater test with Wi-Fi module and maximum display brightness, the device lasted 1 hour and 16 minutes. PCMark battery tests in “Home” and “Work” modes showed about 2 hours, with about 20% charge remaining. In both cases, the screen brightness was 50%. In real conditions, you should expect an average of 3-3.5 hours of uninterrupted operation in mixed mode. This is a fairly low figure, considering all the similar laptops we've recently tested. The time to fully recharge the battery is just over 2.5 hours.

Results

LenovoIdeaPad 100-15 IBD− This is an interesting mid-price laptop with its own strengths and weaknesses. At first glance, it looks more like a budget model. Here you have a simple plastic case, a good full-size keyboard and an inconspicuous speaker system. All the most necessary ports and communications are in place.

But under the unassuming appearance hides a decent hardware platform, represented by a combination of a 4-thread Intel Core i5 series processor from the still current Intel Haswell series, 8 GB of RAM, a 256 GB SSD drive and a mobile phone. NVIDIA video cards GeForce 920MX. Thanks to this, I was pleasantly pleased with the speed and responsiveness of the system. The laptop handles office multimedia tasks well and allows you to play not only simple games, but even many modern demanding projects at minimum graphics settings in HD resolution. At the same time, it is not very noisy and remains comfortable for long-term use.

Of course, in his price category(approximately $513 (₴13299)) the competition was fierce. For example, you can find models with a newer processor, but without an SSD, or with a better screen, but with less RAM, etc. That is, there are a lot of options, and it all depends on which benefits are more important to you. Nevertheless, the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBD will be able to satisfy the needs of an undemanding user who not only works and absorbs multimedia content, but also doesn’t mind playing occasionally.

Advantages:

  • pleasant appearance;
  • comfortable full-size keyboard and touchpad;
  • availability of all necessary ports and communications;
  • good performance of the hardware platform;
  • good cooling system.

Disadvantages:

  • the touchpad takes some getting used to;
  • the display could have been better;
  • the webcam leaves much to be desired;
  • relatively low autonomy.

We express our gratitude to the companyBRAIN Computers for the laptop provided for testing.

Ergonomics

The keyboard layout is familiar, special thanks for the number pad on the right, and in general the convenience of the Lenovo 100-15IBY keyboard can be highly appreciated. The keyboard also performed well in operation (the entire text of this review was typed on the laptop under test). The F1-F12 keys work with the Fn button by default, and without it the volume, brightness, and other functions work. For those who find this behavior unusual, you can change the settings once in the BIOS (you will need a paper clip to press the Novo button).
(img:13:click:big)
The touchpad of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop supports two and three finger gestures.
The sound quality of the Lenovo 100-15IBY is satisfactory - the only speaker is quite quiet and when watching a movie you will need to turn the volume up to maximum or close to it.
The Wi-Fi of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop on the Realtek RTL8723BE chip operates in the 2.4 MHz range and, using the included software, allows you to organize a hot spot - distribute wired Internet to others wireless devices(it is recommended to connect up to five devices simultaneously).
The screen is moderately bright - it is quite comfortable to work indoors at a brightness of 50-75%, but it is no longer possible to work at a minimum. For the street, 100% brightness is already not enough, which is expected from a TN matrix.
The Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop video card is an integrated Intel® chipset with four execution units.
The backlighting of the screen is quite uniform
(img:17:click:big)
The viewing angles of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop are also expected from a TN-film matrix
(img:18:click:big)
At less extreme angles, the picture is quite decent - watching a film together will not be a problem.

Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop performance

To evaluate the performance of the storage system, we will use Crystal DiskMark 5.1.2
(img:19:click:big)
Speed laptop hdd Lenovo 100-15IBY at 110 MB/s for reading and writing is a very good indicator, and by replacing the disk with an SSD you can boost performance without sacrificing storage capacity - an empty slot for a DVD drive leaves hope for installing a second disk (via an appropriate adapter) .
And to evaluate processor performance we use CINEBENCH R15
(img:20:click:big)
As usual, the tests were carried out after installing all updates and unloading all additional programs from memory, and energy-saving options were disabled in the power settings.
It is quite expected that modern 3D games cannot handle this configuration:
CS GO launched, but showed no more than 12 FPS on minimum settings
(img:21:click:big)
The situation is no better with other resource-intensive games, while casual and children's games are doing great. Crayon Physics Deluxe, WorldOfGoo, and the “Earned” series of games work without problems.
(img:22:click:big)
Also, games of the last decade – the second parts of Half-Life and Portal – launched without problems and at maximum settings.
(img:23:click:big)

Heat and noise

Thanks to the low power consumption of the processor (TDP 7.5 W), cooling is easily handled passive system- heating of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop is minimal.
(img:24:click:big)
Temperatures were measured after an hour-long stress test in a fairly warm room.
The absence of a fan also affected the silence - the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop has absolutely no noise of any kind (the tested model does not have a DVD drive, and I was unable to hear the HDD).

Autonomy

The battery life of the Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop was measured by the BatteryEater Pro 2.70 program at 100% brightness and Wi-Fi turned on; 2 hours and 25 minutes passed before the laptop turned off. The same operating time was obtained when playing a video file over Wi-Fi.
Moving the video file to the hard drive with wireless interfaces turned off (airplane mode) and brightness reduced to 25% allowed to increase the battery life to 3 hours 20 minutes.

Conclusions

The Lenovo 100-15IBY laptop is suitable for an undemanding user for solving everyday tasks or as a first computer for a schoolchild, while you will most likely be hated due to the inability to play modern games, but similar solutions have a positive effect on academic performance.
Of course, I would like to see a screen with large viewing angles and more capacious battery, but this will be a completely different budget.

Lenovo is known for providing laptops that are affordable yet extremely competitive in terms of technology and performance. Among these is the IdeaPad 100-15 product. This laptop is characterized by the presence of productive hardware components, ease of management and support for the most popular communication standards. What are its main capabilities? How do users rate the quality of this device?

Appearance

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 laptop, reviews of which, due to the popularity of the corresponding Chinese brand, are often found on thematic online portals, has a fairly simple design, without any special frills. However, given that the device belongs to the budget segment, the appearance is not the best main criterion when the user selects the appropriate solution.

The case of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 IBY laptop is plastic, black. On top cover There is a textured coating, which, as users note, is quite pleasant to the touch. This material has a significant advantage over glossy material, since it does not leave fingerprints. The hinges on which the cover of the device is attached are quite high. This feature, however, does not cause inconvenience to users of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 (reviews can confirm this).

The laptop display is surrounded by a not too wide frame. Directly above it is a webcam.

Keyboard and Lenovo touchpad IdeaPad 100-15 - user reviews indicate this - look very impressive against the background of the surrounding body elements. The build quality of the laptop is highly rated by experts. However, you should not neglect the basic rules of careful handling of the case, especially when working with the laptop lid.

Screen

The device is equipped with a screen with a diagonal of 15.6 inches and a resolution of 1366 by 768 pixels. Display density is 100 pixels per inch. The brightness of the laptop screen can reach 250 cd/sq. M, display contrast - 546 to 1. The color rendition of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 laptop screen - reviews from experts confirm this - is at a good level.

The display design uses a TN-type matrix: this technology implies limited viewing angles of the screen. In addition, the display surface does not contain an anti-reflective coating and is glossy, and for this reason, in bright lighting the user may have difficulty viewing the picture.

But, one way or another, for laptops in the corresponding price category, the screen characteristics, as a rule, are not more competitive in comparison with the display of the device in question. From the point of view of ensuring user comfort under standard conditions, that is, in an apartment or office, the screen is quite technologically advanced.

Sound

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 laptop has a built-in speaker, which is located directly above the keyboard. This feature predetermines the direction of sound directly at the user, and accordingly, the sound quality in this case increases. Of course, the speaker of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 Black laptop is not capable of reproducing high and low frequencies at the level of individual speakers, but in general, its capabilities are sufficient to experience the sound content of a movie or computer game. If necessary, of course, you can connect external speakers or, for example, headphones to the laptop. Sound card, installed in a laptop, is quite technologically advanced in terms of playing melodies presented in various genres.

Device management

The device is controlled using an island-type keyboard with medium-sized square-shaped keys. The touchpad is typical for laptops in the corresponding segment and works stably. The keyboard that the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 laptop is equipped with is, according to users, very comfortable; the buttons on it are located quite compactly. The keys have an average travel and a good level of feedback, which contributes to comfortable work user at a laptop. The touchpad installed on the device supports multi-touch functionality, including pinch and drag gestures, among others.

Processor and other hardware

Depending on the specific modification of the laptop, different processors may be installed in it. Among the most frequently used in this case is the Celeron N2840, which is in demand by many laptop manufacturers. In some cases, the device is equipped Pentium processor 3825 U. Can also be installed in Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 i3.

In general, regardless of the processor modification, the performance of the device remains at approximately the same level. Manufacturing company of all laptop chips Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 - Intel - is known as a developer of mobile chips that combine efficiency and speed sufficient for solving typical user tasks.

The laptop has 4 GB of RAM and a 500 GB hard drive.

Video card

The laptop processor also has an HD Graphics module, as well as a DDR3-1600 memory controller with 2 channels. However, the main module of the device responsible for graphics operation is the GeForce 920M video card from NVIDIA. Given hardware component manufactured using 28 nm architecture.

The video card installed in the laptop supports DirectX 11 technology. It operates based on the GK208 chip. Technologically, the video card is based on the Kepler architecture.

The GK 208 chip, which is the key hardware component of the video card, operates using 2 SMX shader components, each of which contains 192 shaders. The number of TMUs in the chip is 16, ROPs are 8. The chip operates using a 64-bit interface.

The video card supports PCIe version 3.0, as, in fact, in other Kepler-based solutions in the corresponding mobile series. The device also supports the GPU Boost interface in version 2.0, thanks to which it is possible to overclock the graphics module to very high frequencies - if, of course, the cooling system allows this.

The 920 graphics module can support up to 4 monitors, including those displays that have sufficient high resolution— 3840 by 2160 pixels. You can connect monitors via DisplayPort in version 1.2 or using the HDMI connector in version 1.4a. Via HDMI, it is possible to transmit codecs such as Dolby TrueHD, as well as DTS-HD in a bit stream.

The video card in question allows for efficient decoding of video streams. Another advantage of the corresponding hardware component is its low power consumption.

Video card performance: expert assessments

What games can be run on a laptop, taking into account the fact that the game in question is installed on it? graphics card? It should be understood that the corresponding hardware component is inferior in performance to video cards with a 128-bit interface. Therefore, those games that are designed to run with the use of similar graphics modules, for example, such as Evolve, according to experts, cannot always function fully using the video card in question.

When it comes to playing videos, animations, and photographs, the laptop, experts believe, copes with these tasks very well. In many ways, the quality of its work in this case is determined by the actual load on the processor and RAM resources. But if they are used only for viewing the appropriate type of multimedia content, the device will work stably, without freezing, and provide a comfortable viewing experience for the user. Of course, the original content must be sufficient high quality. In addition, you should pay attention to the current status of drivers and other software, used when viewing various multimedia files on a laptop.

Laptop hardware: reviews

How do users and experts rate the hardware capabilities of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 laptop? The characteristics of the device given above allow us to say that the user has at his disposal a device that can rightfully be classified as one of the most competitive on the market in terms of the combination of price and performance. One of the undeniable arguments here is the capabilities of the processor and graphics module, which together form a very productive infrastructure. Its power is sufficient to solve key user tasks.

The available amount of RAM is also quite enough for everyday work on a laptop. In this case, it doesn’t really matter which chip is installed in a particular modification of the device - Celeron N2840 or, for example, Pentium 3925 U.

Resource hard drive a laptop - 500 GB - is enough to install several dozen, or even hundreds of modern games, films, and a huge number of music recordings. It is very rare that a user, unless he is a developer of 3D models of complex equipment or is professionally involved in video editing or creating complex computer games, occupies this space.

But if the hard drive resources are not enough, the data can be quickly copied to DVDs via a DVD-RW optical drive. Which, by the way, is not present on all competing solutions in the corresponding segment. In addition, data that does not fit on the hard drive can be quickly uploaded to cloud drive or other media using the communication resources of a laptop. Let's take a closer look at them.

Communication capabilities

The laptop in question has communication capabilities that are generally similar to typical device models in the corresponding segment. The device is equipped with USB ports in versions 2.0 and 3.0, HDMI connectors, RJ-45, audio jack.

Thanks to the fast USB 3.0 port, the user can transfer large amounts of data from the laptop to external flash drives. If necessary, you can connect an SD card to the laptop - a special card reader is located in the front of the device. Basic supported wireless standards- WiFi and Bluetooth. These communications, as users can assume, function quite stably.

Battery

The device is equipped with a 4-section battery, which, as experts note, has fairly average battery life. Nevertheless, the laptop can work without power for quite a long time: if you activate the medium brightness level in the appropriate mode and work with web pages via Wi-Fi, the battery will last for about 5 hours. If you watch videos in HD format, the laptop will function autonomously for about 4 hours; if you start a game, the battery resources will last for approximately 3 hours.

Price

How much does the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 laptop cost? The price of the device, of course, largely depends on the marketing strategy of a particular supplier. But on average, the cost of the laptop in question is about 17,500 rubles. It should be borne in mind that cheap modifications of the device in many cases do not have an operating system. At the same time, buying a separately licensed distribution kit may be less profitable than choosing a version of a laptop with similar characteristics, but with a pre-installed OS.

Resume

What conclusions can we draw after studying the information about the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15 laptop? Our review allows us to determine that the device has the following strengths:

Availability of a sufficiently powerful video card, a good processor;

Sufficient amount of RAM to solve many user tasks;

Support for popular communication standards;

Comfortable keyboard and touchpad;

Good battery.

Among the shortcomings of the device, one can highlight the display made using outdated technology and, perhaps, not very outstanding design, but the corresponding features cannot definitely be called disadvantages of the laptop. The fact is that few competing solutions are ready to offer a similar combination of price and performance at more high level design, as well as provided that a more technologically advanced screen is installed in the laptop.

For one of our customers, Yulmart snatched a Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop for a promotion. This happened on August 1, 2016. They grabbed it because they bought it on sale for only 15,500 rubles when the dollar was 64. Moreover, the laptop is equipped with a processor Intel Celeron N2840, integrated Intel HD Graphics. The laptop is already pre-installed with licensed Windows 10. There is a 250 GB hard drive and 2 GB of DDR3L 1600 MHz RAM. For such a reasonable price, we consider the Lenovo laptop to be a bargain.

Well, now about the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop in more detail.

Having become acquainted with the technical characteristics of a laptop, someone will say that it is weaker than weak and cannot be used in any way and that it was necessary to purchase a more powerful laptop. However, this laptop is quite enough for accessing the Internet, video, listening to music and editing texts.

The laptop in question is from the “80MJ00DTRK” delivery

Processor and integrated graphics of Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop

As already mentioned, the laptop uses an Intel Celeron N2840 processor and integrated Intel HD Graphics. Intel Celeron N2840 is a dual-core, dual-thread processor with a base frequency of 2.16 GHz. The L2 cache memory of this processor is only 1 MB. In dynamic overclocking mode, the processor frequency can rise to 2.58 GHz.

Intel HD Graphics are integrated into the processor. Base frequency graphics core- 311 MHz, maximum graphics core frequency in dynamic overclocking mode - 792 MHz. The video card is enough for office purposes and small children's games.

The N2840 processor does not perform miracles; at the moment when we were configuring and optimizing the laptop, all operations were performed with a delay. However, after the setup was completed, all unnecessary programs, services and scheduled tasks were removed from startup, the laptop perked up.

The N2840 processor is cool because it has a very small thermal package (TDP) - only 7.5 W. Therefore, it can be cooled on a budget - this does not require a large radiator with a heat pipe and a fan, just a metal plate on top of the processor is enough. This is what was done in the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop. (See photo below.)

The metal plate in the photo is exactly the type of radiator that is responsible for removing heat from the Intel Celeron N2840 in the Lenovo_IdeaPad_100-15IBY laptop

The consequence of such simple cooling is the absence of slots on the body (at its end) for blowing out warm air. The air intake comes through the holes in the bottom of the case - nothing more is required.

The air intake in the Lenovo_IdeaPad_100-15IBY comes through the holes in the bottom of the case - nothing more is required. Warm air is discharged through the same openings.
RAM for Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop

Initially, the laptop is equipped with 2 GB of memory. This volume is not enough even for the normal functioning of an operating system with a couple of running programs. Therefore, we recommend increasing the memory to at least 4 GB. This is what we did for our customer’s laptop - we installed 4 GB of memory instead of 2 GB.

We were interested in how the installation of RAM on the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop was organized even at the stage of its acquisition. The point is that on budget laptops Memory (RAM) can be soldered directly onto the motherboard. It is obviously impossible to replace this one. And in addition to the memory soldered on the board, there may or may not be a full-fledged slot for installing a standard memory stick. The laptop may also have one or two full slots for installing RAM.

So, in the case of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY, this laptop does not have RAM soldered on the board, but there is one full-fledged slot for installing RAM, and it is precisely this slot that is occupied by a 2 GB RAM stick.

This approach to organizing the memory subsystem only allows you to replace existing memory, and not add more memory, because There is only one memory slot.

Thus, we pulled out of the n.b. Memory for 2 GB and installed memory for 4 GB. The removed RAM strip remained unused - memory of such a small volume was not in demand.

Purchasing a 4 GB DDR3L 1600 MHz SO-DIMM memory stick cost another 1,500 rubles. That. The laptop with modernization costs 17,000 rubles.

When installing memory in the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY, there is a peculiarity - it is not easy to install - you have to disassemble almost the entire laptop in order to get to the installation slot. We took out 17 screws before we got to it. (13 screws secure the case, 3 screws are installed under the keyboard and another 1 screw in the area of the dvd plug)

In order to add memory to the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY, you need to completely disassemble the case and only then the memory slot will become accessible. This includes removing 3 screws under the keyboard.
The memory slot is located above the processor cooling radiator.

It’s good that the manufacturer did not skimp on wiring a full-fledged memory slot.

The bad thing is that there is only one memory slot.

It’s very bad that to replace the memory you need to disassemble the laptop, because... this voids the owner's warranty. But not everyone will agree to lose the warranty immediately after purchasing a laptop.

Another feature of the memory subsystem is that we purchased memory with a maximum frequency of 1600 MHz, but it only worked in the system at a frequency of 1333 MHz. This minimization is explained by the limitation imposed by the processor - its memory controller does not support a frequency of 1600 MHz. And support for a memory frequency of 1600 MHz is already implemented in more productive and expensive models of Intel processors.

Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop battery

to the laptop battery (as well as to the hard drive, memory and wifi module) can only be reached by disassembling the entire laptop. All batteries of modern laptops show a tendency to decrease, but the battery that we saw when we disassembled the laptop is more reminiscent of a smartphone battery - it is small.

But installing a small battery in the laptop in question is not justified, but it is acceptable - after all, the power consumption of a laptop with an energy-efficient processor and video card is not so high. Therefore, you can count on a fairly long battery life of the laptop (this is theoretical, we did not measure the battery life.)

Online stores indicate the capacity of the installed battery is 2580 mAh; we didn’t think to take a photo of its markings. Battery type - 3-cell.

The battery of the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop is the size of a thick marker.
DVD drive laptop Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY

There is no such thing in our model for 15,500. There is only a removable plug. However, behind the plug on the board there is a slot, which presumably Can be used for further installation of a DVD drive or an adapter for SSD.

The Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop does not have a DVD drive. But behind the plug there is a connector marked with a frame.
Keyboard and touchscreen of Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop

Single flower. The color of the letters is white.

When you press the central part, the keyboard does not flex. And this fact is extremely pleasing, because... Budget laptops tend to have lower quality keyboards.

I liked the touch. Sensitivity is high. The surface is rough - the finger glides easily. Sensitivity discreteness is absent.

I didn’t like the buttons under the touch panel - the gap with the body is too big - dirt will quickly get in.

The touchpad is okay. The quality of the buttons is average.
Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop ports

Port equipment is poor, corresponding to the cost. HDMI output, LAN port, 2 USB port(1 USB 2.0 + 1 USB 3.0), speaker output and microphone input. Hidden next to the speaker connector Lenovo button One Key Recovery. That's all there is.

Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop ports
About the Lenovo IdeaPad 100-15IBY laptop summarizing

For paid cash great offer. Yes, the laptop does not work miracles, but it is quite capable of solving typical tasks (music, video, Internet). If the budget is not able to increase even a little, you can consider it; nevertheless, it has the minimum acceptable requirements - a processor with a frequency above 2 GHz, pre-installed Windows. Turn it on and work.

But if possible, it’s worth considering a laptop, albeit the same one, but at least with an Intel Pentium processor - installing updates, anti-virus scanning, and turning it on/off will be faster. And such laptops are in the Lenovo line, and the model has the same name as the laptop in question - letter by letter. The difference is in price and performance characteristics.

Nothing was said about the camera, but it is not worth mentioning, since it is moderately mediocre.

At Lenovo, our service specialists do not like one detail that applies to all laptops from this manufacturer - they do not provide technical support over the phone. This creates additional difficulties. So, you could find out how the RAM is installed by simply calling the manufacturer, but to do this you would have to disassemble the entire laptop and thereby lose the warranty on it.
