Car mount for iPad mini. Holders for iPad, iPad Air, iPad mini for the car with mounting in the CD slot, on the dashboard, on the headrest Installing the iPad in the car

In stores you can find a huge selection of such accessories as an iPad holder. They are not the same type, but differ both in fastening technology and in the method of installing the tablet itself. In this material we will analyze a lot about the iPad and car mounts for different versions of these devices.

One of the most common types of holders for iPad mini, iPad Air and other tablet models is when the fastening is made in the CD slot for a car radio. Such accessories are especially suitable for devices with large screens. Of course, they can also be used for mini versions. In general, these holders are universal and can be installed in any brand of car. At the same time, the driver always has his iPad at hand.

Another popular model, PPYPLE, allows you to mount your tablet no less securely in a car. It has many adjustment options, and you can always set a convenient display angle. This effect is achieved thanks to the ball joint connecting the tablet clamp and the lower part of the holder.

Another model of the same series, with the Dash-NT prefix, is simply an ideal option for Air tablets. It is attached to the dashboard thanks to a vacuum suction cup with a layer of silicone. This material guarantees strong adhesion to the plastic and protects the suction cup from air.

The accessory is suitable for all generations of iPad. It is fixed between the paws with rubber pads, which have a bevel and protect against accidental pressing of the buttons.

If the goal is to make life easier for rear seat passengers (especially if they are children), then you can place an iPad holder on the headrest of the front seat. You can play media content on your tablet. While driving, children can enjoy watching cartoons.

This will be a simple and inexpensive solution that will make it much easier to get stuck in traffic jams. And, as you know, there are more and more of the latter in megacities every year. This type of fastening is very simple to fix - no knowledge or skills are required. Moreover, no tools are required. A special lock is attached to the pin on which the headrest stands. Next, the desired notch is selected - and everything is ready.

In addition to the usual options for fixing the tablet mechanically, there are also magnetic type holders. Instead of a clamp, a magnet is used, and a metal plate is glued to the device. This method has the advantage that it does not require moving apart the mechanical elements of the accessory. But you will need to install a metal plate on the iPad.

One of the most famous companies producing such fasteners is Scosche. It produces different versions of magnetic accessories. Each set comes with two records. The largest plate is just right for a tablet. A variety of fastening models from this company are presented in many online stores. Just enter the name of the company into a search engine and you will see hundreds of offers.

Car holders for iPad mini

For mini-version tablets, it is better to use special accessories designed specifically for them - PPYPLE CD-N7 and PPYPLE Dash-N7.

With the first model, the device is mounted in a CD slot for a car. It is important that the holder in no way interferes with the playback of music tracks. And the accessory itself is attached to the drive opening in the simplest way.

The second model allows you to mount the tablet on the dashboard. To do this, you just need to find the smoothest area on the instrument element. The accessory has a lot of adjustments, a ball-type joint connecting the iPad clamp and the holder body. This allows you to adjust the display angle over a wide range.

The manufacturer produces car holders for iPad in cars of all generations. They can be divided according to the size of the installed device:

  • for large tablets iPad, iPad 2, iPad 4, iPad Air: , CD-NT, HR-NT
  • for iPad mini : Dash-N7 and CD-N7 .

Also, they are divided according to the method of installation in the car:

Car Holder for iPad 2, 4, Air, mini with car mount CD slot:

Installing an iPad in a car into the CD drive - a new trend. This method allows you to position the screen so that it does not interfere with the driver’s view. You can listen to CDs while using it. Installing and removing the mount in the CD slot takes just a few seconds. iPad holder It is located very comfortably, since the gadget’s screen is right at hand.

Two models produced iPad stands for car in CD slot- CD-NT and for smaller tablets such as iPad mini - CD-N7

Bracket for iPad in car with dashboard mount:

Reliable installation on the iPad on the dashboard is made possible thanks to the German technology used to make the silicone pad of the vacuum suction cup. This technology is based on filling all the pores of the plastic with silicone, thereby blocking the passage of air and breaking the vacuum. This mount easily withstands heat, cold and even direct sunlight. To install the car holder, you need to find a place on the dashboard with smooth plastic. It must be cleaned of dirt and auto chemicals. It is strictly forbidden to install the holder on airbags! A large number of adjustments allow you to set a convenient viewing angle for the screen.

We produce two models of iPad holders for car dashboards: for large tablets and Dash-N7 for iPad mini

Mounting an iPad in a carfront seat headrest:

A car headrest holder for an iPad is used to show rear-seat passengers movies on the screen, making it easier to spend time on long trips. It is attached to the metal pin of the front seat headrest using a special clamp and a rubber sealing insert. This mount is very reliable and durable. Using the adjustments, you can set a comfortable viewing angle. One model is available for tablets up to 12 inches - HR-NT

iPad Car Mount Clamp:

To fix the device in the holder, use a clamp with a spring. The CD-NT and HR-NT models use iPads with screens up to 12 inches diagonal. The height of the fully opened clamp is 190 mm. The Dash-N7 and CD-N7 models with a grip height of up to 170 mm are suitable for iPad mini.

Additional information about the features of installation and operation of holders can be found in the FAQ section, or ask a question on the “Questions and Answers” tab on the product page.

PPYPLE products are made only in Korea

Good afternoon to you, dear reader. Less and less often do I take up my pen to tell you about interesting projects that I see every day.

Today we will talk about a cool device from Apple, tablet Ipad Mini. Installing such a device in a car is still a rarity these days; of course, the United States is ahead of the rest, mostly due to the cost of the components themselves. As often happens in our country, many thoughts are born very simply, with one idea - Why are we worse? We can go further and do better!

We are cooler, bolder, and in our multimillion-dollar country, companies like - West Coast Customs, bigger and in many ways smarter.

Our feat begins with approximately the same thought, we need to make it cooler. Maybe the first attempts are not always 100% satisfying, but we must strive for this. And in this project, I am sure everything turned out as well as possible.

Car - Kia Ceed
Owner - Crazy Apple Fanatic

The car itself is already decently good for its class, everything seems to be just 1.8 AT, and it is already equipped with good brakes for reliability.

First of all, of course, we disassemble the entire “beard” and examine the patient. We carefully measure everything and figure out what will stand where.

Free space after disassembling the center console

We decided not to give up the standard radio, we only remove the CD player, leave AUX and USB, they will be useful to us later. We move the standard radio to the area of the ashtray and cigarette lighter, carefully to the area of the automatic transmission shift knob and turn it slightly towards the driver. Let's try it on.

We are also starting to customize the frame for the iPad itself, in addition to installing it, we decided to open it and solder 4 buttons from it (Block, home, louder and quieter) - It seems at this moment the United States already realized that it was losing.

For the donor of buttons, we take a regular old keyboard, it suited us perfectly with its buttons and by crossing it all we get a new frame for Apple.

Our iPad does not have 3G and a SIM card, but this is not a problem, so that the Internet in the car is everywhere and we always installed a Wi-Fi router in the rear trunk lid that distributes the Internet to all devices in the car. (By the way, the Internet was chosen from MegaFon).

After the final verification of everything created, the transfer of all the wires, the output of a separate constant power supply for the iPad, we proceed to the final assembly and, in my opinion, we get a simply magnificent result.

As a result, we received traffic jams relevant to Moscow, a large navigator, a TV, and a tablet built into the car. Now you can easily watch movies in traffic jams, communicate on social networks and much more that the tablet itself allows.

In addition, the installation of the iOBD module, which connects to the computer’s brains and using inexpensive programs from App Store sees the whole car, this allows you to independently diagnose the car, identify errors and correct them, because on the street "age of technology" and this must be used to its fullest extent.

This is where I stop my fascinating story, which I hope turned out to be fascinating and very useful.

Go for it, I am sure that in our country there are a huge number of people who, armed with the necessary materials, will be able to surprise the whole world.

Probably each of you has at least once caught yourself thinking about why Apple still doesn’t release its multimedia systems or operating systems?

Of course, this would be especially appreciated by lovers of a bitten apple, since they know that the strength of Apple products is not at all in many gigabytes of memory, but precisely in the quality of optimization.

And as always, our friends from the Middle Kingdom have already managed to take care of this and rolled out a ready-made factory solution.
Of course, judging by the forums, there have already been attempts to install Apple tablets, but it was of a custom nature, bordering on outright collective farm, since putting a tablet in a car is half the battle, but making it work as a radio is already more difficult and without special equipment and software there is no way make do!

The Chinese brothers made a solution based on the principle of a docking station in which an iPad mini tablet of any generation is installed, which turns into a multimedia center for your car.

The main advantages of installing an iPad instead of a head unit:

  • High quality and reliability of the product;
  • There is no need to buy a head unit if your family already has an iPad;
  • Used iPad mini can be bought on the secondary market from 6,000 rubles;
  • An interface familiar to you if you are a user of Apple products;
  • A device that has no analogues;
  • A huge selection of applications for every taste;
  • Easy installation in a regular place instead of the factory control unit;
  • The iPad will not cease to be your tablet and at any time you can easily take it out and use it as before;
  • Unlike CarPlay and Android Auto, you have access to a full arsenal of iOS apps;
  • You can easily take it with you to prevent thieves from stealing it from your car.

At the moment, there are factory models for almost all models and brands of cars.

There are 2 models available to choose from based on the connection principle:

1) Budget option.

The device is a standard frame with an installed slide, which will accommodate an iPad mini or iPad Air and cover the installed standard radio, that is, dismantling the old radio is not required.

This kit includes:

  • Standard radio frame with slides and lightning connector;
  • Amplifier and hardware responsible for sound with TDA 7851L chip;
  • Standard wiring braid for Pin to Pin connection;
  • External microphone;
  • Data cable.

The main convenience of this model is that you do not remove the standard radio, but simply place the tablet on top of it, and when leaving the car, you can simply take the tablet with you, leaving the standard appearance of the car panel, for example, with a simple RCD 310.

Supported car models: Volkswagen Polo, Jetta 5, Jetta 6, Golf 5, Golf 6, Golf 7, Scirocco, Passat B 6, B 7, CC, Touran, Tiguan, Touareg, Sharan, Caddilac CTS, Caddilac ATS, Nissan Qasqai, Jeep Compas, Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Gramd Cherokee, Ford Focus 2, Focus 3, Mondeo, Infiniti QX 50, Crysler 300C, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, Smart ForTwo.

2) Top option

The design is fundamentally different, since in this case it is, so to speak, a radio tape recorder without a screen, which is inserted instead of your standard one, with a Pin to Pin connection into the car’s original wiring. On the front panel there are physical buttons for controlling basic functions, which have a standard backlight to match the standard one. The iPad itself is inserted into this radio as if it were a docking station and does not visually evoke the feeling of a third-party device, as in the first case.

This kit includes:

  • Radio-dock station;
  • A braid of wires for connecting to standard systems;
  • CAN module for coordination with standard device protocols;
  • A software module that provides a car interface on the screen of your iPad;
  • Rear view camera module.

Supported car models:

Skoda Octavia A5, Octavia A7, Volkswagen Golf7, Passat B6, B7, CC, Touran, Ford Focus 2, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Highlander, Toyota Camry, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, Rav4, Yaris, Nissan X-trail, Tiida, Qashqai, Mitsubishi Lancer X, Honda Fit, Civic, Accord.

As we can see, everything in this kit brings your iPad as close as possible to a full-fledged radio, which of course you cannot do yourself with a custom installation in the garage or at home. This is a full-fledged factory product, on the development of which a lot of effort, time and money were spent.

In this option, the standard GU is replaced with a docking station into which you can insert your iPad and it looks more organic.

The tablet can also be easily taken out if necessary.
Would you set yourself such a decision?
In essence, you get a proven GU that will not let you down, unlike Android and Windows solutions of dubious quality, especially those bought cheaply.
The top full-fledged option is of course not so cheap, but if you add up its cost + iPad, even if you buy used or new... the budget will be 35-40 thousand and for this money you will get a first-class, reliable PG from the global Apple brand.

For cars with older cassette radios, there is a more affordable option - a cassette adapter. The cord from it is inserted into the headphone output iPad, and the cassette into the radio compartment. Press play on it and listen to what is playing from the iPad. But, in our opinion, the FM transmitter is better.

iPad in the car | iPad Console Car Holder

Car Holder iPad Console is a specialized model for a specific tablet. It is intended specifically for iPad first generation, as it is made in the format of a plastic cover-cover with fasteners on the windshield. In case of urgent desire iPad 2 it will also hold, but not too reliably (the sizes of the tablets are not identical), and besides, access to the buttons will be partially blocked (for the iPad they are at the ends, while for iPad 2 a little behind).

The design of the iPad Console is quite simple - a flexible wire (corrugated) leg is fixed using slots on the back, and the end with a suction cup is attached to the windshield of the car. The leg itself bends and can even be tied into a knot if necessary. The bending force is quite powerful; it will not straighten out on its own. But, unlike hard legs, this option implies the presence of a fulcrum, because the tablet weighs an impressive (compared to a cell phone) 670 grams, so hoping that it will not dangle on bumps would be reckless.

The medium-sized suction cup holds the tablet well even when suspended, without a fulcrum, but we would not recommend taking such risks with an expensive tablet. If there is a support point, the fastening turns out to be very reliable; separation from the glass does not occur even if the car gets into a deep hole at full speed (which, unfortunately, is typical for Russian roads even in megacities, not to mention suburban highways).

The flexibility of the wire leg gives a large number of degrees of freedom, and the hinge joint at the junction with the lid allows you to orient the tablet as desired. True, this same hinged connection causes the tablet to dangle a little on the leg, which can cause discomfort when driving on the grader.

The iPad Console includes a plate with double-sided tape that can be used to attach the tablet not to the windshield, but directly to the dashboard or to the tunnel between the seats. This is very useful because the leg is relatively short, and if your car has a wide dashboard, it may be awkward to mount the tablet to the windshield. Just to give an example, in the Mercedes G500 the panel is short, and is ideal for mounting a mount with iPad to the glass, and in the Chevrolet Trailblazer we had to use Velcro to install the plate on the dashboard. In some cars, it may be more convenient to secure the tablet not on the dashboard, but on the tunnel, and here you cannot do without Velcro.

Reliable holding of the tablet in the mount is ensured by its tight coverage along all edges. This is also a disadvantage - to extract iPad from Console is not difficult, but requires some skill. In general, for owners of the first generation iPad, this is a fairly convenient and reliable mount, the main drawback of which is its lack of versatility. When upgrading your tablet, you will have to buy another mount.

At the time of publication of the article, the iPad Console was in the store "Cult of Accessories" 1790 rubles, but by the time you read this, the price may have already changed. We recommend checking it out.

iPad in the car | iPad Car Holder

Car Holder iPad Car Holder could easily be called a Tablet Car Holder. As we already wrote above, it is suitable for absolutely any tablet, even for the Samsung Galaxy Tab, even for the Acer Iconia Tab A500.

The design of this holder is noticeably more complex than that of the iPad Console - the leg has several axes of rotation, screw clamps for hinge joints, and is made of hard plastic.

The suction cup of the iPad Car Holder is more massive, has a larger diameter, and holds the tablet very tightly even when suspended.

Sliding legs allow you to clamp iPad both in portrait and horizontal orientation. The rubberized surface of the hooks will securely hold the tablet and prevent the mount from scratching the case. The hooks can slide out, making it feel like the holder was designed less with an iPad in mind and more to hold an entire netbook or tablet PC with its thick edges.

Once you fix the holder on the windshield, inserting the iPad into it is quite convenient, and even more convenient than in the special iPad Console. Only one point raised questions for us - one of the hinge joints rotates freely and is not equipped with clamps. This was done to make it easier to deploy iPad at any time, but more often than not you want to firmly fix the device. But we are sure that a man with hands will find a way to overcome this shortcoming.

In the end, we preferred to use the iPad Car Holder, since we plan to continue, with its help, to check how tablets of other brands are adapted for the car.

At the time of publication of the article, the iPad Car Holder was in the store "Cult of Accessories" 1890 rubles, but by the time you read this, the price may have already changed. We recommend checking it out.

iPad in the car | If the mount does not fit

It is quite possible that the mount for iPad Will not fit on windshield. There can be many reasons - important controls on the dashboard, where you can mount an iPad, the dashboard is too wide, the presence of a built-in computer with a screen (like on the new Volvo S60, for example). What to do in this case?

iPad in the cabin of the new Volvo S60 model: it’s hard to figure out where to put it, because in the middle of the car’s dashboard is the standard computer screen (navigation, music, control of car subsystems, etc.)

Everyone gets out of the situation as best they can. Someone is closing iPad With less necessary controls, someone hangs it on the air ducts by pulling a string through them and hanging the tablet by the case. Other users simply place the tablet in a convenient place, leaning it on the lower part of the dashboard. Sometimes they even make a belt fastening under the sun visor or securely screw a cover to it.

Finally, you can tinker with the file and modify the finished mount to suit your needs. We even know a person who made a mount from an old cell phone holder, a Chinese cover case and self-tapping screws.

In any case, it is important that the device is held securely and does not fly away during sudden braking or on a bump into the cabin or under your feet. And it is also advisable not to place the tablet too low. The logic here is simple - if you take your eyes too far away from the road while driving, an accident may occur. And since the tablet will act as a navigator, and sometimes you want to peek at the screen, it’s better to take this into account.

And one moment. Some drivers have a habit of putting iPad on the steering wheel and even read from it in traffic jams. We think this is a very dangerous practice in any case, and especially on cars with an airbag. I don’t even want to imagine what would happen if the iPad flew towards the driver’s face under the impact of the SRS. The special effects of the bloody horror film "Final Destination" will seem like kindergarten, we think.

You should not place your iPad on the steering wheel of a car, even while standing still - if the airbag goes off, the effect will be monstrous

It's time to talk about the best navigation programs for iPad, both free and quite expensive. Details on the next page.

iPad in the car | The best navigation programs for iPad

For Russians, practically the only (except for Google and Yandex maps and the OffMaps application) navigation application for iPad is Navitel. This refers to Russians living not only in Moscow or St. Petersburg. It is Navitel that has the most detailed coverage of the country; there are maps even for Khabarovsk, which other applications usually show as a name and a passing route. If you are a resident of one of the two capitals, then the choice is much wider and more interesting - for example, Sygic Aura with its accelerated three-dimensional interface is very impressive with its smoothness and models of attractions, and even works “in the background” - you can listen to music or read mail, and Sygic will guide you along the route by voice. Navigon can do this too, and what’s especially cool is that you can even turn off the screen and navigate by voice.

Navigation programs for iPad (except Ya.Metro - it is for underground navigation)

All programs have their advantages and disadvantages, and choosing among them is really difficult. The problem is aggravated by the fact that all applications except Navitel cost money. Navitel is also not free, but you will have 30 days to experiment to decide whether to purchase or uninstall the package, and the rest of the applications must be purchased immediately. For one opportunity of “trial use” we can say a big thank you to the Navitel developers.

We conducted quite a long practical testing of all existing (and of interest in Russia) navigation applications. A detailed review and comparison of these programs is now being prepared, but for now we’ll tell you in a few words.

We tested:

  1. Navitel Commonwealth
  2. Sygic Aura Drive UK
  3. Navigon MobileNavigator Russia
  4. CityGuide
  5. OffMaps
  6. MapsWithMe
  7. Microsoft Bing
  8. Yandex Maps
  9. Google Maps

The laconic impressions are:

Navitel for iPad

And now a little about other scenarios, because navigation is not the only thing that is strong iPad in the car.

iPad in the car | Watching a movie on the road

The driver definitely shouldn’t be distracted by a movie on the road, but passengers can pass the time with pleasure if they fill up iPad movies. This is especially convenient with small children on long trips. And you don't need a DVD player, a car TV or a PlayStation built into the trunk.

One of the common myths is that “only movies in a specially optimized format can be played on the iPad.” This is how it was when the first one appeared iPad. Back then, films had to be uploaded to iTunes, synchronized with the tablet via a USB cable, and conversion was a tedious process that required special programs and skills to work with them.

Today everything is simpler. There are two convenient options (and many others, of course).

The first is to use the program AVPlayerHD or its analogue (Oplayer, Buzz Player, etc.). The program is paid ($2.99), but is worth every cent of its money. Without problems, it reproduces almost any common codecs and containers, and even video from digital SLRs, which many Android tablets easily choke on.

It's easy to copy movies to AVPlayerHD - there are three ways, two of which are via Wi-Fi. By clicking the "Wi-Fi Transfer" button in the AVPlayerHD main menu, you switch the tablet to content receiving mode. You can open the iPad's IP address in a browser or FTP client. What exactly needs to be written will be indicated directly on the screen.

The easiest way is via FTP. Open the Explorer window (Windows+E), enter ftp://10.0.0.35:2121 at the top (your address will be different, as in the screenshot), indicate that the login is anonymous. After this, you can simply drag and drop movie files into the window that opens, just like when copying from a disk to a flash drive. For simplicity, you can make a shortcut on your desktop.

Via a browser is also easy. By opening the specified address, you will receive a window with a button and a list of files already downloaded to the tablet. Uploading is done in much the same way as you attach photos to an email in some Mail.ru

And of course, you can copy movies through iTunes by selecting the program from the list. Not the most convenient method and quite archaic, but quite fast. Convenient if you want to fill your tablet to capacity with large films.

The second option is the program Air Video. Its main purpose is to play movies directly from a computer or NAS to an iPad over the air, converting the format in real time. You can even watch movies saved from Blu-ray on iPad, though you will need a powerful computer. Air Video can also convert movies to a format supported by iTunes and the basic iPad viewer in the background, without asking any unnecessary complicated questions. You can also choose the quality - whether you want it to be a movie with the same resolution as for the iPhone 2G screen, or whether you want it to be 720p for iPad and Apple TV. In general, this program will be useful not only to tablet owners, but also to those who use iPod Touch and iPhone. After conversion, Air Video can automatically add movies to the iTunes library, and when synchronized (if everything is configured as required), they will end up on the tablet.

A side effect of conversion is that films are significantly reduced in volume, but do not lose much in quality if you choose a high bitrate. Accordingly, you can take with you many more films and cartoons to entertain the children along the way.

To use AirVideo, you need to download the server part and install it on a computer running Windows or MacOS. In the settings you need to indicate where the movies are located (there can be many folders, subfolders are also supported). You can also change some other settings, for example in terms of preferred language and subtitles. The server part is completely free.

Then you need to download the paid ($2.99) client part AirVideo for iPad from the App Store on your tablet. Specify the server from which playback occurs (there may be several of them), if desired, change the conversion settings. After connecting the client part to the server part via Wi-Fi, you will see a list of directories with your films. You can go through them by clicking Convert, and the computer where the AirVideo server is located will plunge into intensive conversion work. At the same time, no one bothers you (if the PC is really powerful, for example with Core i7 Sandy Bridge processors) from watching and streaming. By the way, connecting several iPad to one server is also supported, but of course, all this requires processor power.

Finally, you can combine AirVideo and AVplayerHD. The first is used to reduce the volume of films and convert them into a format that iPad hardware accelerates, and the second for storage and playback.

iPad in the car | Listening to music - about the intricacies of control

iPad in the car | Conclusion

The Apple iPad is undoubtedly a great car accessory. You can safely use it as the main GPS navigator for the metropolis and civilized travel (on the roads of Russia, CIS countries, Europe, etc.) thanks to mapping applications such as Navitel, Sygic, CityGuide or Navigon. They still require improvement, but it is clear that from update to update they are becoming more stable and convenient. What exactly to choose depends on your taste, and we will soon tell you more about these programs.

Undoubtedly valuable for a motorist in a metropolis is the ability to obtain information about traffic jams via the Internet, and full-fledged work with Yandex and Google maps, including plotting routes in these systems, advanced search for the right places, etc. Multi-touch control is extremely convenient and intuitive. This is a great help for those who need to find something along the way - from a children's clothing store to a car service center and a cinema.

Developed multimedia capabilities - surfing the Internet in traffic jams and e-mail in the cockpit, playing music and movies, IP radio, IP television can certainly come in handy. Controlling playback on a 10-inch multi-touch screen is very convenient; after the iPad, simple navigators begin to depress with their limitations. iPad in the car it becomes a real multimedia center.

There are also disadvantages - not every car dashboard will be organically combined with a “navigator” of this size. In the role of Bluetooth handsfree iPad does not know how to work, unlike a number of conventional navigators. Choosing mapping software is not easy - there are too many options, and only a small part of serious programs are free (and only Navitel has a trial). We also hope that Google implements an analogue of its Android navigation for iPad, with a much wider range of functions. It's a shame to lose a good navigation program just because of the confrontation between Android and iOS.

And where are the candles? :)
