How to install drivers on a network. Network Equipment Identification

In this article we will look at an algorithm that will allow you to avoid troubles that may arise after installing the OS.

What is a driver?

This is a program through which the computer's operating system communicates with the device's hardware ( motherboard, video card, network card, printer, scanner, MFP, etc.).

Drivers are developed by companies that produce computer parts and peripherals that interact with the PC (for example, office equipment).

Often, modern operating systems (including and) already have a certain set of drivers that allow you to work with the main components of the computer; we will consider the case when such programs are not available.

The peculiarity of the situation when network driver not installed, lies in the inability to use programs for automatic installation drivers, since they all use an Internet connection for their work, and since the network driver is not installed, there is no access to the Internet.

With driver installation network adapter The user usually encounters the following cases:

1. After purchasing a new computer and not having an OS installed on it.

3. After a network adapter driver failure.

To solve the problems that arise in the first case, you need to look for the disks that come with your computer.

Over the past few years, a trend has clearly emerged that involves abandoning the use of drives optical disks not only among laptop manufacturers, but also desktop PCs.

Users who independently choose the components from which their computer will be assembled also refuse to install a DVD drive.

Advice! We recommend downloading all the necessary drivers (not just the network one) to a separate directory on your hard drive and/or flash drive. This will avoid situations where, after installation operating system you will need to look for a drive or PC (tablet, phone) to download drivers from disk or the Internet.

Installing the network driver

Download the necessary program, you can start installing it.

Similar actions will occur if you update the network driver.

To install/update the network adapter driver, you need to go to “Device Manager” as described earlier.

Select the required item and context menu, which is available by right-clicking and selecting “Update drivers...”.

Select “Search for drivers on this computer.”

We go to the directory into which we recently downloaded everything we need, using the “Browse” button, click “Next” and wait for the driver installation process to complete.

There is also an opinion that if you update (reinstall) a network driver, you must first remove the old one, after which you should install a new one.

Important! To delete already installed driver you need to go to “Device Manager”, select the network adapter, click right click mouse and select “Delete” in the context menu. After this, the system will warn you that the device driver will be removed, we agree by clicking “OK”.

Hello friends! I noticed that many readers of my blog have problems that arise with connecting to Wi-Fi networks, or working via Wi-Fi, in many cases arising due to problems in the operation of the wireless network adapter. And it’s not always the Wi-Fi router’s fault, which everyone immediately tries to reconfigure several times :).

Let's say a few words about what it is wireless network adapter (in the device manager, or in the driver description, it will most likely be signed as Wireless Network adapter). This is a device that actually connects your computer, laptop, netbook, etc. to the Internet via Wi-Fi. Well, I explained it, but I think you understand what I mean :).

If you have a laptop or netbook, then most likely it already has a built-in wireless network adapter (unless the device is old, or even very old). If it's normal desktop computer, then the wireless network adapter (Wi-Fi adapter) is connected separately. There could be, for example, a USB adapter such as, or an internal PCI adapter. You can read more about these devices in the article.

It doesn’t matter what Wi-Fi adapter you have and on what device. We need it to work stably and not have any problems with connecting and working with Wi-Fi networks. And in order for everything to work well, you need to immediately install required driver for a wireless adapter, and if strange problems appear when working with wireless networks, and you have determined that the problem is most likely in the device (laptop, computer, etc.), then you need to try updating or completely reinstalling the driver for the Wireless Network Adapter. What are we going to do now?

How to check if the driver is installed on Wi-Fi?

If, after installing an operating system, say Windows 7, Wi-Fi does not work on a laptop or other device, then most likely the operating system simply failed to select and install a driver for your network adapter. I don’t remember exactly, but it seems to me that I have not yet seen a case where Windows 7 itself installed the driver on the Wireless Network Adapter.

Typically this driver (like many others) you need to install from the driver disk that comes with the laptop (netbook, USB adapter, PCI adapter, etc.), or download the driver from the website of the manufacturer of the same laptop.

In order to check whether the driver is installed on wireless adapter, you need to go to Device Manager and see if it is there.

Right click on My computer (or open My Computer and click on the empty area), select Properties.

On the right click on "Device Manager".

If you did not find such devices there, then you need to install the driver. You can install it from the disk that comes with the kit, or download the driver for the Wireless Network Adapter from the manufacturer's website. Just look for a driver for a certain model laptop, USB adapter, etc. Below in the article, I will show in more detail how to install the driver for a Wi-Fi adapter.

So you didn't find the driver? You need to install it.

The driver is installed, but Wi-Fi does not work? Check if the Wi-Fi adapter is turned on, if it is available networks to connect, there may be a problem with the router, etc. If you have checked everything, then you need to try to reinstall (update) the driver.

The driver is installed, but there are problems connecting to Wi-Fi(the device does not always connect, the Internet often breaks, etc.)? – Trying to delete old driver, and install a new one by downloading it from the device manufacturer’s website.

Install or update the driver for the Wi-Fi adapter

Where can I get a driver for a wireless network adapter?

As I already wrote above, the driver can be found on the disk that came with the device. Only this method has one drawback. The driver located on the disk may already be out of date. And on the website of the manufacturer of your device, it may already be a new version drivers and it would be good to download and install it new driver. But if it’s not possible, or you don’t want to look for it, then the driver from the disk will also work.

Finding a driver for a wireless adapter is not difficult. For example, I have a model ASUS laptop– K56CM. So we ask Google or Yandex a request “ASUS – K56CM”. We find the official website in the search results and go to it (we get to the page of our device).

Or you can go to the website of your device and search the site, specifying the model. If the page opens in English, then press the language change button and change it to the desired one.

Then, on the page with the description, in our case of a laptop, we look for something like a button “Download”, “Downloads”, “Drivers”, etc. Go to it.

If necessary, indicate for which operating system the driver is needed. Then in the list we look for the driver for wireless network device (you can refer to the words Wireless Network Adapter, Wireless Lan Driver) and download it to your computer (look at the driver update date to ensure it is the latest version).

If you do not have a laptop, but say a USB adapter connected to to a regular computer, then formulate the request to search for a driver in the same way. For example, “TP-LINK TL-WN721N”, or search by device name on the manufacturer’s website.

That's it, we have the driver on our computer. If you just want to install and not reinstall (update) the driver, then unpack the archive (if the driver is in archive form) to the folder and run installation file. Follow the instructions. After rebooting, Wi-Fi should work.

If you need to reinstall (update) the driver

If you want to reinstall the driver, then I advise you to first remove the old one.

To do this, go to device Manager(how to do this is written at the beginning of the article) and right-click on the Wireless Network Adapter device. Select Properties.

Then go to the tab "Driver" and press the button Delete.

A warning will appear, check the box next to “Uninstall driver programs for this device” and press “Ok”.

That's it, the driver has been removed. Restart your computer. Go to Device Manager. You should see what has appeared unknown device (Network Controller) . This is our wireless adapter, we just don’t have a driver for it, we’ll install it now.

I recommend installing the driver in the following way: if the driver is in the archive, then unpack it into a folder. Go to this folder and run the installation file, usually it is called “setup.exe”. Follow the instructions. After installing the driver, usually Wi-Fi should work even without rebooting. And I hope it will work stably.

Another way to install a driver for a Wi-Fi adapter

Go to device Manager and right click on the unknown device (in our case Network Controller). Select “Update drivers...”.

In the next window, click .

Specify the path to the driver folder and click "Further".

The driver installation should begin. If Windows reports that “The most suitable software For of this device already installed", then try installing using the first method (from installation file).

I think that this is a very relevant article and will be useful to many; I should have prepared it earlier :). If you encounter problems that cannot be solved with the help of this article, you can ask a question in the comments or on our forum. Best wishes!

How to install (update, reinstall, remove) the driver for a wireless network adapter (Wi-Fi)? updated: February 7, 2018 by: admin

Question from a user

Hello.

Tell me, how can I update the drivers if I don’t have internet? I lost my old relatives on the disk that came with the purchase of the PC...

Hello.

Unfortunately, not all corners of our country have normal and fast (relatively) access to the Internet. Not long ago I was visiting relatives in one regional center (and, it seems, not the smallest one) - I was surprised that I couldn’t count on anything else other than a Megafon modem (with several Mbit/s) ... Wired Internet do not pull - because Apparently the payback is small and does not promise profits for companies.

In general, be that as it may, in this article I will try to consider several options for updating drivers when there are problems with the network (low-speed access, lack of a driver for the network card, limited traffic, etc.).

Note: although, of course, now I’m wondering, how will people without a network be able to read my article? On the other hand, perhaps there is no network only on the PC, but on the phone, for example, there is access to the network (or you can read it from acquaintances/friends/relatives). There are also books, but I haven’t seen such recommendations in them ☺...

By the way, you might be interested in an article about best programs for working with drivers (update, backup, etc.) -

Ways to update drivers when there is no Internet access

Various cases...

Option #1: after Windows reinstallation- there was no driver for the network card. It’s a vicious circle - to have the Internet, you need a driver; to have a driver, you need to download it to the Internet.

This can also include failures in the provider’s network (or the kitten chewed the wire, as in the first preview picture ☺). In general, temporary problems...

Probably the most common option, which many users (with experience) have fallen into. Most people, I think, have a smartphone in which downloading a hundred or two megabytes (MB) should not be difficult (I hope ☺). This means there are a couple of options:

  1. find the driver itself and download it (and then transfer it from your phone to your PC). This option is somewhat tedious, so I won’t describe it in detail (since you need to know the exact model of the adapter; it’s quite inconvenient to search for a driver in your phone, and even download it);
  2. take advantage specialized program 3 DP Net(which can be downloaded from a smartphone and transferred to a PC without any problems).

3 DP Net

3 DP Net - this program is designed specifically for updating network card drivers. It will automatically detect your card model and install a driver for it. The program supports almost all models of network adapters found on computers and laptops.

By the way, the INTERNET is not needed for its operation! Those. You just need to download it once, and then you can run it from a flash drive/disk (or from your phone’s memory).

Actually, after downloading the utility, run it and install the driver. Then, when the network card works, I recommend downloading and installing it, and clicking the single “Update Drivers” button.

Option No. 2: you simply do not have the Internet, or it is low-speed and it takes a very long time to wait for a download, even for a 10-15 MB program (besides, the connection is constantly interrupted). Maybe, serious damage at the provider (there will be no network for several days).

This option is also found, and especially in regional centers, villages, and hamlets. In this case, you can proceed in several ways.

Method No. 1

It happens that some central streets in regional centers are connected to high speed access to the Internet, but the rest do not. Ask your acquaintances, friends, relatives - perhaps some of them have access to the network. You will need to download about 10-15 GB of information. It's about about driver update packages such as DriverPack Solution and Snappy Driver Installer.

Snappy Driver Installer

The full package weighs around 14-15 GB. Allows you to find and install drivers automatically for most equipment (most likely, all drivers will be installed on your PC. Problems most often arise with unpopular and rare equipment). For work complete package no Internet connection required: just run executable file. I highly recommend having this package on a separate emergency flash drive (it helped me out more than once ☺).

DriverPack Solution

In general, by selecting any of these packages and loading it onto your flash drive, you can come to your place and install everything from it necessary drivers. Everything is simple and fast ☺.

Method No. 2

I think that if you have locality there is a service for repairing equipment (computers, laptops) - they probably have similar ones software packages. You can ask them to record it on a flash drive for you, I don’t think they will refuse (if you ask nicely ☺) ...

If you cannot get similar software packages (DriverPack Solution and Snappy Driver Installer) on your own in your locality, then you can use services that download the files you need, then burn them to CD/DVD disks (flash drives) and send them to you by mail . Of course, you will have to fork out a little, but you will have a disk with drivers...

One of these services: http://filepost.ru/

Naturally, not free ☺ (in my opinion, there is cash on delivery, so you don’t risk anything)

Method No. 3

You can also buy a driver disc. For example, one of the convenient options is to use Avito (the most popular bulletin board, the best site for those who want to buy or sell something unnecessary ☺).

In the menu, select the desired category "Games, consoles, programs...", set search query and search all over Russia. The choice of discs is very diverse. Sellers also send disks (flash drives) by mail (however, you will have to negotiate what and how on your own).

Carefully! Please note that there are plenty of scammers on the Avito website, and do not rush to transfer all the money for the disks to the first person you meet

That's all for me, I hope I gave at least some guidance...

One of the most important abilities of computers is transfer of information from one car to another. Thanks to this, almost endless possibilities open up for users, which everyone has long known about - entertainment, work, communication, and so on.

Many people are well aware of the existence of global and local networks. If we use the first one mainly for transmitting information over vast distances, then the second one is used for transmitting data among a small number of users. In this article we will take a detailed look at the local network, and also describe its creation and configuration in Windows 7.

General concepts

Local is the network to which merged 2 or more computers, usually located within an apartment or, say, a building. The machines can be connected to each other via network cables or wireless channel communications (usually WiFi).

In order for each individual computer to “see” any other, also connected to local network, two rules must be observed. Firstly, all cars must be connected to one common communication device - router(you can do it without it - more on that a little later), which receives information from one computer and transmits it to another. Secondly, each of the machines must have unique network address. Compliance with these conditions is sufficient to connect many PCs into a simple local network.

It is also worth knowing that there are two ways (or types) of combining computers - star And ring.

The first involves using a router (router, switch, hub - whatever is more convenient for you) as a communication device (the principle of operation was described above).

Network type " ring» does not require the use of such devices, however, for its operation, each computer must have at least two network cards . Roughly speaking, one of them will play the role of a receiver of information, the other - a sender.

This data will be enough for you to move on to the next part of the article.

Preparatory work

Before setting up a home or office local network, you must first prepare all computers and the communication line for work. If you are using wired router as a communication device, you will need connect network cables from each computer to it. If you are creating a home network using wireless router Wi-Fi, then just connect each machine to it.

Building a home local network like " Ring» will require cable routing according to the following diagram (using the example of 4 computers):

  • Connect two cables to computer No. 1 into different network card sockets;
  • Extend one of the cables to PC No. 2, the second - to PC No. 3;
  • Connect the second cable in PC No. 2 to another free socket network card and throw it to computer No. 4;
  • Do the same for PC No. 3, connecting it to a free board slot from PC No. 4.

You may notice that when connecting like " Ring“Each computer is connected by wires to only two neighboring ones. In our case, PC No. 1 does not have cable connection from PC No. 4.

By the way, setting up a network like “ Ring" May be done without wires, that is, via Wi-Fi. However, this will require that each computer not only be able to connect to Wi-Fi, but also have possibility of creating virtual point access so that other machines can connect to it. But we will not consider this option.

Setting up Windows

After connecting computers into a network using wires or Wi-Fi, you need to perform certain tasks on each of them settings, otherwise such a home network simply will not function normally. The whole point of customization is just to give each PC its own unique network address(connection settings on Windows example 7).

Start with any one computer:

Now almost the same thing needs to be done for each computer connected to your home network. There is one difference - in the IP address field the last number must be unique. Set, for example, on PC No. 2 the address - 192.168.0.2, on PC No. 3 enter 3 as the last digit, etc. right up to last computer on your home network.

By the way, if you want all computers on the network to be able to access the Internet, then you additionally need to fill in the fields “ Main gate" And " DNS server». The gateway and DNS can simultaneously be, for example, the address of your Wi-Fi router in case the latter is configured to work in global network. You can also enter the address of a computer connected to the Internet in these fields. In this case, the network settings of the latter must indicate that it allows other machines on the local network to use the Internet connection. But that is another topic.

Something else. When your computer connects to your local network, Windows 7 automatically asks where you would like it to be located. There are 3 options available - “ home network », « Enterprise network" or " Community Network " This choice depends on some network settings Windows - restrictions or permissions on the actions of other machines on the network in relation to yours. We won’t describe everything - just choose the first option “ home network».

How to check the connection

You can check whether computers “see” each other on the network using standard Windows tools, namely, with the help command line. To open it:

Do the same on all computers.

Video on the topic

The network adapter is printed circuit board, which is inserted into the slot on motherboard. It can also be integrated into the motherboard or connected to a computer via a USB connector. There are other options, but the ones listed are the most common. You can distinguish the adapter by the characteristic connector designed to connect the connector network cable. Adapters for network connection using or Wi-Fi technology. The latter are distinguished by the presence of a radio antenna. The purpose of any type of network adapter is physical connection computer and transmission media, as well as preparing and transmitting data from one device to another.

Installing and configuring the network adapter

Before installing the network adapter, pay attention to its brand; it will be required during the setup process. For physical connection you need to access the motherboard. To do this, you need to disconnect the cover from the system unit.

Next, find the slot on the motherboard for installing the card. Often, this requires removing the closing metal plates from the rear panel of the system unit in order to expose the external interface of the adapter. Install the module into the slot, make sure that the cable connector is accessible, and screw the board to secure it. Then put the cover back on system unit. Connect the network cable.

Turn on your PC. After the system boots, a message will appear that a new device has been found. For correct operation You will need to install a driver that matches the system and brand of network adapter. It is better to download it from the manufacturer’s official website. After this, reboot the system. The network connection icon should appear on the taskbar.

Right-click on the icon and select "Network and Sharing Center" shared access" This is where all network connection settings are made. In particular, go to the “Change adapter settings” menu, after which all available network connections will open.

To change properties, right-click on the icon of any of them and select “Properties” in the context menu. In addition, the status of each connection is visible here: “Enabled” or “Disabled”. Connections that are enabled but not working for some reason are crossed out with a red cross. Enable or disable connection ( software control adapter) can also be done through the context menu.
