How to make a zip archive. How to create an archive with a .zip extension (ZIP archive)? Creating archives divided into blocks

How to create a Zip archive? It happens that you need to create a ZIP archive. Well, you never know? Maybe you are studying somewhere by correspondence, and they have a requirement that you send work only in a ZIP archive. So what now, look for and install this archiver as well? How to quickly create WinRAR archive and We have already learned how to create a self-extracting WinRAR archive. How long will it take to find a new archiver? How much does it cost to install it and study it? And we need a ZIP archive urgently. What to do?

And you don’t need to do anything. You have everything you need to create a ZIP archive. We can do all this using the WinRAR archiver.

How to createZIP archive using the programWinRAR?

  • Collect all the files necessary for archiving into one folder;
  • Name the folder as you need (preferably with Latin letters, otherwise the archive may not be opened by the person to whom you send it);
  • Click on the created folder right click mouse, and select the item from the drop-down menu Add to archive…

A window will open Archive name and parameters . Set the switch to ZIP and press the button OK. You don't need to touch anything else.

This is how we created a ZIP archive quickly and easily. As you noticed, its extension will now be not .rar, but .zip.

Hello, dear friends!

The archive is a kind of dimensionless container where you can put as many folders, files and even other archives as you like. Today I will tell you how to create an archive on your computer.

Why is it needed?

Almost everyone who works with a computer has to deal with such a thing as archive. For example, when you need to send a large number of photos via file hosting while maintaining confidentiality. In general, there are a large number of situations when it is necessary to create an archive file:

  • Increasing the level of information confidentiality;
  • Additional protection from malware and viruses;
  • Forwarding objects;
  • Convenient storage of many files;
  • Saving hard disk space.

Archive programs

To create archive files, use special programs, which are called archivers. Their main task is fast, maximum data compression. It is very important that not a single byte of information is lost during compression. In other words, the chosen method must be reversible, then the unpacked data will have the same quality as before the archiving procedure.

There are a huge variety of archiver applications. However, the most popular of them are the following:

  1. WinZip
  2. WinRAR
  3. 7-Zip

Most of these software products have in their arsenal a rich set of different filters and compression methods. Many of them can split large objects into several archive volumes and set passwords for opening archives. Some applications have customized profiles.

Archiving programs not only help create archival document, but also unpack it. Read about this in my article "".

How to create?

Each archiving application was originally created to work with files of one specific format, but in order to be able to successfully compete in the market with similar products, they were endowed with functions for working with all types of archives. Therefore, for your purposes, you can install any archiver.

So let's get down to action. Select what you want to archive and right-click on it.

A context menu will open in which you will see commands for archiving data (they were placed there by the archiver program when installed on the PC). Choose from two commands:

  1. using the first “ Add to archive...” a software window opens to set the necessary parameters.
  2. second “ Add “current_folder_name.rar” to the archive” conducts this operation, using the default settings, and independently gives the name archive file(it consists of an extension according to the archiving format and the name of the current folder).

In the first case, you can independently choose the format, compression level, create a password, name the file, etc. Having finished all this, you need to click “Ok” to begin the packaging process. Upon completion of archiving, you will see a newly created archive document in the selected directory.

To create a self-extracting archive, you just need to check the box “Create SFX archive” in the section general settings"Archive name and parameters" window.

Read more about such archives in the article about.

Zip is one of the most popular formats data compression and archiving. All files and folders that are stored in ZIP archive, have a .zip extension, so you can easily distinguish them from many others.

Despite the fact that on this moment time, there are a large number of data compression algorithms that are more advanced and better than ZIP - it still holds its position and does not lose popularity.

Many archive programs support the .zip format, so you should not have any difficulties with unzipping. We compiled earlier, and all of them can open an archive with the .zip extension.

Creating a ZIP archive is not difficult. It all depends on the archiver you will use for this. In this article we will look at two ways to create a ZIP archive: using WinRAR and 7-Zip.

Creating a ZIP archive using WinRAR

Find the folder with the necessary file (or files) that you will archive. For this example, I'll archive ten photos, so first I need to select them.

The WinRAR archiver program will launch. You can read the basic principles of creating an archive using this archiver in the article “”.

The only thing we need to change is the Archive format. Default in WinRAR program The format is RAR, but we need ZIP. Therefore, we simply check the box opposite it.

Next, set up the data compression method and click “ OK" In terms of duration, a ZIP archive is created in the same way as RAR. As a result, we received such an archive, in the properties of which we can see that it has a .zip extension, which means that everything turned out correctly.

Creating a ZIP archive using 7-Zip

The 7-Zip archiver is more difficult to use because it has a larger number of various settings. I won’t talk about them in this article, because our goal now is simply to learn how to create ZIP archives.

Select the file(s) again and right-click on it. Now in the context menu we need the option “ 7-Zip", and then the familiar " Add to archive...».

A 7-Zip program window will open in which you need to select “ Archive format» from the drop-down list. Naturally we choose .zip.

Next, we set up the ones we are already familiar with “ Compression method" And " Compression level", and also rename the future ZIP archive, if, of course, there is a need for this. After finishing the settings, click " OK».

Creating a ZIP archive using the 7-Zip program will take no longer than using the WinRAR archiver.

As a result, we will receive a similar archive that will open without problems in the above-mentioned 7-Zip and WinRAR, as well as in other similar archivers.

In the last article we talked about. Now we will talk about creating archives. If you don’t know how to create an archive, you will need an archiver program, such as 7zip, and this article.

As we have already said, archives can solve several problems at once. By archiving a group of files, you get an archive that is just one file. Such a file is much easier to transfer over the network than a whole bunch separate files small size. Send this file via e-mail or post on file hosting won't be difficult.

In addition, special data compression algorithms can be used during archiving. Thanks to compression, the created archive can be significantly smaller in size than source files. This allows you to speed up archive transfer over the network or save space on your . For example, if you store a lot of documents on disk that you don’t currently use, but you can’t delete them either, it makes sense to archive them with compression.

How to create an archive using the 7zip program

In order to create an archive you will need an archiver program. Most popular archivers are paid programs, for example WinRar. But there are also free programs. One of the best free programs archivers is 7zip.

There are several ways to create an archive using the 7zip program. The simplest and in a fast way creating an archive is to launch archiving via the context menu.

Select the files that need to be archived and right-click the context menu. In the menu that opens, select 7zip. There are a number of commands here that will start archiving selected files in various modes.

Let us consider in detail all the commands that can be executed from context menu 7zip:

Add to archive– add selected files to the archive with the ability to manually configure all archiving parameters. After launch, a window will open in which you can select the archive format, compression level and other parameters.

Compress and send by email– similar to the previous command, but in this case, after archiving is completed, the file will be sent by email.

Add to "Folder Name". 7z– the selected files will be archived into a 7z archive with default settings.

Compress to “Folder Name”. 7z and send by email– the selected files will be archived in a 7z archive with default settings and sent by email.

Teams "Add to "Folder Name". zip" and "Compress to "Folder Name". zip and send by email" work similarly to the previous two, but in this case a regular zip archive is used as the archive format.

You can also create an archive from the 7zip program interface. To do this, run 7zip File Manager, highlight necessary files and click on the “Add” button. After this, a window with archiving parameters will open.

The program for working with archives 7-Zip has gained popularity not only due to its free nature and the ability to open a large number of formats, but also due to its expanded functionality. In 7-Zip, you can split archives into blocks, set encryption, and create self-extracting archives.

Easy work with archives

If you are interested regular work with archives, that is, creating compressed folders and opening documents downloaded from the Internet, then you do not necessarily need to become familiar with the interface of the 7-Zip application. Everything you need is available through the context menu after installation. If you need to create an archive, then simply select the corresponding files, right-click on one of them and select “7-Zip > Add to 'Archive Name'” (the name will be either the file name, if there is one, or the name current folder if there are several files).

Moreover, even through the context menu, two options for such archives are available - in the .7z format and in the classic .zip format. Here you can immediately send the compressed file by email, that is, after creating a compressed folder, the interface will automatically open mail client(if you have one installed) with an already created new letter, which has a new archive attachment attached.

Similarly, through the context menu, you can unpack the existing archive, be it a zip format or rar. 7-Zip offers either simply opening the archive, or one of the options for unzipping it.

The “Unpack” option launches the 7-Zip application itself, where you can additionally specify the path for the files to be unpacked, enter a password if necessary, and specify overwrite options if there are already files in the folders with names similar to the archive. If you need to specify a special folder for unzipping documents, simply click on the button with the image of three dots and select the appropriate path in the dialog box.

The other two options allow you to unzip the document faster. The “Extract here” option will place the contents in the current folder (this is not always convenient if there are many documents in the archive), the “Extract to ‘Archive Name’” option will create new folder with the same name as your archive, and will place all the contents there.

Additional 7-zip options

If you select “7-Zip > Add to archive” from the context menu to create an archive, you will be able to flexibly configure subsequent actions. Here you can choose one of four proposed formats (in addition to 7z and zip, these are also tar and wim), increase or decrease the compression level depending on your goals, and set a modification mode that allows you to add and update files in existing archives.

In the Encryption area, you can set a password for your archive to increase its security. This is especially important when transmitting private information over the Internet.

There are also more advanced functionality. In particular, for creating archives divided into blocks and compressed folders, which unzip themselves when you double-click on them.

Creating self-extracting archives

First of all this option Archiving is useful when you create compressed folders to send to people who have difficulty using their computer. However, for convenience, you can also create archives for your loved ones that unpack themselves.

To do this, simply check the “Create SFX archive” checkbox in the “Add to archive” window of the 7-Zip application. Thus, instead of a compressed folder, you will end up with a file with the extension .exe, which operating system will be treated as an application. And when you run such a file, the procedure for unzipping the contents into the current folder will automatically start.

Creating archives divided into blocks

When archiving large quantity Sometimes it is necessary to split data into blocks. This is required for further “transportation” of content, be it CD or DVD disc, or a small flash drive or external device With file system Fat32, which simply does not support files larger than 4 GB. But this question was especially relevant in the era of floppy disks, the contents of which were only 1.44 MB. Dividing into blocks is also useful when sending by email, since the size of the letter does not allow inserting large files(though in in this case It’s more convenient to upload files to cloud storage).

In the future, when unpacking data at the final “transportation” point, it is enough to start the procedure for unzipping the very first of the created archive blocks - the procedure for unpacking the rest will start automatically.

To create such archives, in the “Add to archive” window, you must use the “Split into volumes of size (in bytes)” drop-down list. Just choose one from available options. For convenience, 7-Zip immediately offers block options for specific media, including those same floppy floppy disks, and the minimum option is 10 MB, which is suitable for sending via email.

Finally, if you wish, you can combine creating an archive that will unpack itself with breaking it into blocks. Thus, to several files whose name ends with an ordinal digit display, another exe file will be added, which will start the procedure for unpacking all the contents.
