How to make a more transparent background in Photoshop. a way to make a layer with an image transparent

Good day to everyone, my dear friends and readers. Every day I write articles on my blog, and accordingly, each of them needs some kind of introductory picture. To do this you have to look for special images on the Internet. Ideally, there are images with a transparent background. This makes the work much easier, since they fit perfectly into the picture without unnecessary objects.

But it happens that I found some awesome image that would fit the general theme, but she, such a dog, is with extra items and background. And then what? Forget about good graphics? No way. and just today I will be happy to show you how to make transparent background pictures in several fairly simple ways.

You can see my article where I wrote about. This method suits our purpose (you also select the object and drag it to new document on a transparent background), but I would advise using it specifically for such complex discharge. For normal removal To remove an unnecessary background (that is, create a transparent one), we will use simpler methods.

Before you start the main work, open the image and try to crop it until the element fits into it. It will be easier, believe me. Moreover, it is easy to do. Just take it and reduce the boundaries.

If you expect to do something from scratch, then initially make sure that when creating a new document you have a transparent background. To do this, create a new document and after setting all the parameters, be sure to set "Transparent background". And then we work as usual

Magic wand

This tool is best used to remove the background when it is homogeneous or has a similar structure. For example, I took a photograph of a monkey on a rope. As you can see, it is on a white background, but we need a transparent one. Then we crack our fingers and start doing everything step by step.

If you see that the background stands out either too little or too much, then play with the tolerance. The larger it is, the more similar pixels it will capture, i.e. more if the tolerance is minimal, then it will highlight strictly one color, and if you increase it, then the range will also include shades that are close to this color.

Just don’t forget that such images must be saved in the format PNG, otherwise transparency will be lost and you will again have White background.

If the background is very heterogeneous and it is clearly visible that even tolerance will not help, then use others, for example, or even a lasso. By the way, I already showed this on.

Eraser

You can also erase the background with a regular one. Yes, yes, exactly them. Just don’t forget to remove the lock from the layer, otherwise everything will be painted white instead of transparency.

The process is of course quite tedious. After all, you need to select the normal hardness, and calmly wash it without touching the element itself, in in this case leopard In any case, it cannot be ruled out as an option. Do you agree?

Of course, there is a simpler way, namely a tool "Background Eraser". The only thing is that it is better that the background and the element are sufficiently different from each other in color and saturation. So I took a photo of a tiger jumping against the sky. Great option.

Well, at the same time, I won’t forget about one more eraser. In the same group of tools, select "Magic Eraser". Again, we look at the clearance. With such a composition you can put high level admission, even 80-90 .

Now we just need to click on the sky once. Do you see what happened? We no longer need to wash anything. Most of the palate was shaved with one press.

Click on the remains of the sky to completely remove it. The tiger should only be on a transparent background. Well, then everything goes according to plan. Clear everything to transparency and save the image in the format PNG.

Well? Isn't it beauty? All. Now it can be used for any collages or other types of images. You can even make it look like he is trying to attack you))). Well, that’s as your imagination tells you.

Well, if you seriously want to learn how to make beautiful, interesting and professional collages, then be sure to watch course from Elena Vinogradova, a professional in creating collages on this topic. The course is really excellent and looks like a breeze.

Well, with this I say goodbye to you. I hope that you liked my lesson today and that it was useful to you. Don't forget to subscribe to blog updates and share with your friends on in social networks. And I'm waiting for you in my other articles. By the way, have you forgotten about the competition? I'll announce the results in a week. So let's hurry! Well, I wish you success. Bye bye!

Best regards, Dmitry Kostin.

When creating collages and other compositions in Photoshop, there is often a need to remove the background from an image or move an object from one picture to another.

Today we’ll talk about how to make a picture without a background in Photoshop.

There are several ways to do this.

The first is to use the tool « Magic wand» . The method is applicable if the background of the image is monochromatic.

Open the image. Since pictures without a transparent background most often have the extension JPG, then the layer with the name "Background" will be locked for editing. It needs to be unlocked.

Double-click on the layer and in the dialog box click "OK".

Then select the tool "Magic wand" and click on the white background. A selection appears (marching ants).

Now press the key DEL. Done, the white background has been removed.

The next way to remove the background from a picture in Photoshop is to use the tool "Quick Selection". The method will work if the image has approximately the same tone and does not blend into the background anywhere.

Choose "Quick Selection" and “paint over” our image.

Then invert the selection using the keyboard shortcut CTRL+SHIFT+I and press DEL. The result is the same.

The third method is the most complex and is used on color images, where the desired area blends into the background. In this case, only manual selection of the object will help us.

There are several tools for manual selection in Photoshop.

1. Lasso. Use it only if you have a steady hand or Graphics tablet. Try it yourself and understand what the author writes about.

2. Straight line lasso. This tool It is advisable to use on objects that contain only straight lines.

3. Magnetic lasso. Used on monochromatic images. The selection is “magnetized” to the edge of the object. If the shades of the image and background are identical, then the edges of the selection appear jagged.

4. Feather. The most flexible and convenient selection tool. With a pen you can draw both straight lines and curves of any complexity.

So, choose a tool "Feather" and circle our image.

Place the first anchor point as accurately as possible on the boundary of the object. Then we place the second point and, without releasing the mouse button, drag it up and to the right, achieving the desired radius.

Anchor points can be moved by holding down the key CTRL on the right, and delete by selecting the appropriate tool from the menu.

The pen can be used to select several objects in an image at once.

Once the selection is complete (the path must be closed by returning to the first anchor point), click inside the path right click mouse and select "Create selected area".

Now you need to remove the background in Photoshop by pressing the key DEL. If suddenly the selected object is deleted instead of the background, then click CTRL+Z, invert the selection with the combination CTRL+SHIFT+I and delete it again.

We've covered basic techniques for removing backgrounds from images. There are other methods, but they are ineffective and do not bring the desired result.

Making a transparent layer on an image in Photoshop couldn't be easier. This short explanatory note contains comprehensive information on this issue. Therefore, I hope you will not have any difficulties.

What is a transparent layer or background for? So that one image can be superimposed on another.

The default transparent layer in Photoshop appears as a checkerboard. This is what the transparent layer looks like:

This is what the list of layers looks like

We can place another layer with an image above the transparent layer. This is what an apple looks like on a transparent layer in Photoshop.

This image will have a transparent background under the apple, so you can paste it onto any background on the site.

You can create a new layer under the apple in Photoshop itself and fill it with any background. There will be the same result.

You can also adjust the transparency of layers. This may be needed for various purposes - for example, to create translucent background or make the image transparent.

You can reduce the transparency of a layer in the Layers panel. You activate the desired layer and reduce the opacity percentage.

I hope the purpose of a transparent layer in Photoshop is now clear to you!

The only question you might still have is how to make a transparent background in your image. To do this, you need to select the part of the image that you want to keep and delete the rest of the selection area. How to do it correctly and how to highlight it complex objects you can find out in my free video course "How to highlight in Photoshop". To learn it, fill out the information in the left panel on the website and the course will be sent to your email.

How to make a transparent background in Photoshop?

Photoshop is one of the most popular programs among people interested in design, graphics and drawing. People who are far from creative, but who need its functions, may also need Photoshop. For example, you needed to use some kind of image in the text, but it was unacceptable to place it with the existing background. To do this, you can either change the background or use a transparent background. Let's try to figure out how to make a transparent background in Photoshop.

How to make a transparent background in Photoshop - the first method:

Left-click "File" (in the left top corner). Select “New” from the drop-down list. In “Background Contents” select “Transparent”. This method should be used by those who want to create own image Without background. It won't work if you want to remove the background from the finished image. To do this you need to use the second method.

How to make a transparent background in Photoshop - the second method:

The Photoshop graphic editor is different in that it uses layers. The image behind which the transparent background is made must be copied to a new layer. This is done by simultaneously pressing Ctrl keys and J (hereinafter we will use a commonly used abbreviation, for example, Ctrl+J). To do this, you can use another method - right-click on the layer and select “Duplicate Layer” from the drop-down menu. In the next window that appears, click "OK". You should end up with two identical layers, only one of them will be called “layer 1” and the other “background”.

The second stage is to hide the layer called “background”. To do this, you just need to click on the eye image located to the left of the layer.

The third stage is to separate the image from the background. This can be done using a tool called a rubber band. On the keyboard it is activated by the "E" key. The dimensions of the elastic tool can be changed using the "[" and "]" keys on English layout. You will need to change the size of the tool in order to carefully “erase” the background around the object. If you did everything correctly, then you will have a “chessboard” around the object - this is the absence of a background, that is, a transparent background.

The last stage is saving the picture with a transparent background. Saving is standard. In the upper left corner, with the left mouse button, select “File” and select “Save as” from the drop-down list. Under the image and the line “File name” there will be a line “file type”. In this line you select the format in which the image will be saved. You can select ".psd" format or ".png" format. It is recommended to use the latest format. After this action, click “save”. IN JPEG format transparency is not maintained.

Now you can use the image without the original background by inserting it into the required document. It should be noted that the “elastic band” tool is quite complicated for beginners if the hand is not “stuffed” daily work in this program. Therefore, difficulties may arise when trying to “erase” the background around small objects, such as grass, for example. We can advise you to either improve your skills, or use a graphics tablet for work (which is more typical for professionals), or try another method.

How to make a transparent background in Photoshop - the third method:

It is necessary to convert the background of the image into a layer. To do this, right-click on the background in the area on the right where layers are displayed. Select “Layer from background” / “From the background” (most versions of Photoshop downloaded from torrents are on English language. This remark is also true for many tutorials). In the menu that opens, click “OK”. Select the “Magic Wand” tool. It can be used only if the background that needs to be cut out is uniform in color (otherwise we use the Lasso tool). Select the background. Click Delete. After this we see our object against the background of a chess field. This is the transparent background. All that remains is to save the image using the method described above.

There is a a large number of video tutorials on this topic. For example, you can follow the sequence of actions in the video for the article.

Now you have taken one step into the field of study basic capabilities graphics program photoshop and at the same time realized their need for quality visual design your work. Congratulations!
