Paper for printing on a color laser printer
As a rule, when talking about printing on a laser printer, we mean printing on A4 color printer, since most laser printers print on paper of this size. Recently, printer models have begun to appear on the market that print on A3 sheets, as well as using paper in rolls. The ability to print on offset paper is very much appreciated by mini-printing houses, which usually have laser printers installed.

Two factors affect the print speed of laser printers: the time taken to mechanically feed the paper and the speed at which the data from the PC is processed and a bitmap page is formed for printing.
Laser printers are page printers, i.e. forming a whole page for printing at once, in contrast to matrix or inkjet printers, which form separate lines. Therefore, the unit for measuring the print speed of a laser printer is the number of pages per minute. Typically, this value averages 14 pages per minute. High-performance printers used in computer networks operate at speeds in excess of 20 pages per minute.
The vertical and horizontal resolution of a laser printer is determined by the following:
- vertical resolution is in line with the pitch of the drum and for most printers is 1/600 inch (in cheaper models - 1/300 inch)
- the horizontal resolution depends on the number of dots in one line and the accuracy with which the laser beam has been pointed.
The laser printer's printing process requires the processing of entire pages. This, of course, requires a large amount of computation. Therefore, for printing speed, not only the work of the processor is decisive, but also the amount of printer memory. The lower memory limit for a black and white printer is 1 MB. Color laser printers have significantly more memory.
The cost of printing on a color laser printer is inversely related to the cost of the printer. That is, the cost of printing will be the higher, the cheaper the printer you buy.
Despite increasing competition from inkjet printers, laser printers are still popular. Of course, as of yet, a color laser printer is far superior in price to an inkjet. But this difference quickly pays off due to durability and ease of maintenance.
An inkjet printer equipped with black and color cartridges provides black and white and color printing. With the purchase of such a printer, there is a great opportunity to print not only black and white text documents, but also color images. Modern printer provides high quality printing. But sometimes the user is faced with a situation where the printed document is too faded, instead of black, there is gray.

In the event that the print quality of a laser printer has deteriorated and there is no apparent reason for this, first of all check for the presence of toner. The lack of toner usually manifests itself as the appearance of lighter vertical sections of text on the printed document. If the cause of poor printing is precisely the lack of toner, remove the cartridge and gently shake it from side to side. This will redistribute the rest of the toner, which will allow you to print another dozen pages in normal quality.
Check if you have toner save mode enabled. If you, for example, work with a Word text editor, open: "File" - "Print". Select "Properties" in the opened window. Then on the Paper/Quality tab, click the Advanced button. In the window that opens, in its lower part, there is an option to enable / disable the economy mode. If it says Eco Mode is on, select the Off option.
Some printers have a button that controls print quality. If you have just such a printer, check in what position it is - pressed or not.
Toner may be to blame for poor print quality - if it is of poor quality or is intended for a different printer model. If the printer started to print poorly shortly after refilling the cartridge, the problem is most likely in the toner. Replace low-quality toner, when refilling the cartridge (it is quite possible to refill it yourself), make sure that there are no traces of old toner left in the hopper.
It is possible that the printer is working properly, while an inexperienced user wants to see the text printed in bold, but does not know how to do it. The absence of bold type is interpreted by him as "bad printing". If you need to select all text in bold, in the Word editor, click: "Edit - select all", then click the black letter "g" on the format bar with the mouse. You can select the desired panels by opening: "View - Toolbars".
If you want to make a black and white copy of the page, you must click the appropriate button - black and white drops on the printer panel. It only works for scanned documents.
In order to print a document in black and white only, you need to go to Printer print settings --> Extended and select the appropriate item Printing in grayscale" or " Only black ink" or something like that. However, please note: the printer will still not print with empty cartridges.
When printing in black and white, it prints both black text and black solids in brown instead of black. And in the text mode and others, all colors are displayed correctly. How to fix it?
First, let's figure out why this happens.
In "Mode" Text", which implies that you intend to print only black text, the printer prints only with a black cartridge. In all other modes, which assume that the print contains not only black text, but also text of other colors and / or graphics, the printer receives black and shades gray from color cartridges - cyan, magenta and yellow (in theory, mixing (CMYK) C, M and Y should ideally give black, but in practice it gives dirty brown).
Color distortion occurs because the printer is not properly calibrated. Or not calibrated at all. If you refuse original cartridges in favor of compatible ones and use PZK and CISS and want to get the perfect result, you need to do color profiling.
Now about the color profiling itself. The best option is to order it to specialists. They have precise equipment and everything. But, of course, it's not free. You can try to find a ready-made color profile on the Web for your photo paper and ink brand. This will not provide ideal color reproduction, but to some extent the problem should be solved. You can also profile yourself. But there are no guarantees, everything depends on you.
Epson printer test page
On Epson printers, you can print a test page, or rather a print test of the nozzles of the print head, without connecting it to a computer. Therefore, if you do not have the opportunity to connect the printer to a PC or laptop, or the driver is not installed, then the test sheet can be printed by pressing the printer key combination.
1. If the printer is turned on, then turn off its power with the key. Install paper in the tray.
2. With the printer turned off, press and hold the key (2) with the trash can and sheet of paper icon (the rightmost button), then without releasing it, press the “on” key (1) and release. Hold the key (2) for 10 seconds. Let go.
When ready, the printer prints a printhead check page.
This method is valid for Epson printer models.
