ESET is an international developer of anti-virus software and computer security solutions for corporate and home users. Founded in 1992. ESET's headquarters are located in Bratislava (Slovakia). The company is represented in more than 180 countries around the world.
The acronym ESET is derived from the words Essential Security against Evolving Threats. ESET was the first antivirus software vendor to use proactive methods to detect unknown online threats. All current ESET products are based on a software platform, the main element of which is an advanced heuristics block called ThreatSense.
Products
ESET's first product was the NOD antivirus program for computers running MS-DOS. In 1998, NOD32 1.0 was released for Microsoft Windows, version 2.0 appeared in 2003. The latest version in the 2.x branch is 2.70.39, which was released in November 2006 and adds support for Windows Vista. In January 2010, ESET announced that NOD32 2.x would no longer be sold or downloaded after February 2010, and that it would no longer support or update signatures after February 2012.
In November 2007, a new version of the antivirus program was released with a new name - NOD32 Antivirus 3.0. The company also introduced Smart Security, a new product that combines NOD32 Antivirus with firewall and antispam functions.
In March 2010, ESET introduced NOD32 Antivirus and Smart Security 4.2.
In September 2011, ESET introduced NOD32 Antivirus and Smart Security 5.0
On July 14, 2009, ESET enterprise products were the first to be awarded Certified Product status under the Intel Certified Solutions program, confirming the compatibility of NOD32 Business Edition and NOD32 Smart Security Business Edition products with current Intel server platforms.
On August 26, 2010, ESET NOD32 Smart Security received the highest ADVANCED+ award from the Austrian laboratory AV-Comparatives based on the results of testing antivirus products for the use of system resources.
In September 2011, ESET NOD32 Antivirus 5.0 received an ADVANCED+ award in AV-Comparatives testing

The company name ESET (Essential Security against Evolving Threats) means “Effective protection against evolving threats.”
ESET is the first manufacturer antivirus software, which applied heuristic methods for detecting computer threats in its solutions. Heuristic method protects the user not only from existing ones, but also from new threats that have not yet been included in the signature database. In addition, ESET has pioneered the use of cloud technologies in security. Such services have been used in ESET NOD32 products since November 2007.

ESET in Russia and CIS
The Russian representative office of ESET (www.esetnod32.ru) was opened in Moscow in 2005. The company oversees the promotion and sale of ESET NOD32 in Russia and the CIS countries. Regional offices of the company are open in the North-Western, Volga, Ural, Siberian, Southern and North Caucasus federal districts, as well as in Kazakhstan. The construction of a branch network made it possible to sell ESET NOD32 antivirus solutions throughout the Russian Federation, CIS countries (except Ukraine) and Georgia.
Today, every third personal computer in Russia is protected by ESET NOD32 antivirus solutions. To quickly respond to viral epidemics in Russia, its own Center for Virus Research and Analytics was opened.
ESET's clients in Russia and the CIS countries include large Russian and international companies, as well as government agencies.
ESET offers licensing programs that are based on the number and set of nodes/users protected. Several licenses have been developed: “Initial purchase”, “Renewal”, “Additional purchase”, “Renewal with expansion” and “Migration”.
"Initial purchase"– basic license for 1 or 2 years.
"Extension"– a license to renew the right to use ESET software after the initial license for that product has expired. Issued for 1 or 2 years and offers a discount of 40% compared to a new purchase.
"Additional purchase"– purchase of additional software licenses during the term of the license agreement. The cost is calculated based on the number of months remaining until the expiration of the previously purchased license. The price of additional licenses is taken from the price range corresponding to the total number of protected objects.
"Renewal with expansion"– an increase in the number of licenses for ESET software on preferential terms simultaneously with the extension of the license agreement. The price of additionally purchased licenses is calculated based on the price range in which the total number of purchased licenses (additionally purchased + extended) is located. The price of renewed licenses is calculated from the price range in which the total number of renewed licenses is located.
“Migration” is a license to migrate from a similar product from another manufacturer to ESET products. The discount on the license will be 40%.
Licenses for ESET NOD32 products are provided for 1 or 2 years. After the license expires, you can continue to use the software, however, regular updates of the anti-virus databases will stop. To receive updates, you must renew your product license.
Licensing of academic organizations and educational institutions
For medical institutions, a single 30% discount is provided on all ESET NOD32 solutions, both when purchasing and renewing licenses. The decision to provide a discount is made on the basis of a copy of the license “For carrying out medical activities” issued by the Federal Service for Supervision of Healthcare and Social Development of the Russian Federation. For academic organizations, a single 50% discount is provided on all ESET NOD32 solutions, both when purchasing and renewing licenses. The decision to provide a discount is made on the basis of a copy of the state-issued license “On Educational Activities”.
Delivery options
ESET products come as boxes, electronic activation key and corporate licenses. When purchasing software in the form of a key or license, the distribution kit for installing the product (media pack) must be purchased separately or downloaded from the ESET website.
Box– includes a software distribution disk and paper instructions. There is a sticker on the disc with a registration code. The boxed version is optimal for private users, as well as for organizations if the number of protected PCs does not exceed 5 PCs.
Electronic activation key– delivered by email within a few hours after payment of the order. The installation distribution (media pack) is purchased separately or downloaded from the ESET website.
Enterprise electronic license– delivered to the customer in the form of a letter containing the username and password. To receive a software update, you need to download the required distribution from the website and install it by entering the name and password received by email. The personalized license is sent to the customer in PDF format.
Media pack– DVD with software distribution. Does not contain the NOD32 license itself - it must be purchased separately. You can buy a distribution kit only in addition to a purchased or previously acquired license.
