IPhone X: full review of the new product. Network capabilities of iPhone X

As expected, on the 10th anniversary of the release of the first iPhone, Apple announced an anniversary iPhone model X. Most of the rumors and leaks that we have been confirmed: the new product has a display on the entire front surface with virtually no frames, a glass body and a vertically oriented dual camera module on the rear surface.

True, the name is not so simple. The flagship model is not called iPhone 8 or even iPhone X, as expected, but “iPhone ten.” But the insider images turned out to be very close to reality. Apple relied on a frameless screen design, which now occupies the entire front panel.

The exception is small inserts for sensors and the front camera. Like previous iPhones, the new body is protected from dust and moisture according to the IP67 standard.

Face recognition

Until the last moment, the placement of the Touch ID fingerprint scanner remained an intrigue. Since the iPhone X was deprived of a hardware Home button, there is no fingerprint scanner here. They did not move it to the rear panel. You can unlock iPhone X using Face ID.

This is a biometric facial authentication system, which is built on the basis of several cameras and sensors.

According to the manufacturer, for facial recognition, a special neural engine is used, built into a single-chip platform, which is capable of self-learning. As a result, the system cannot be fooled by your new hairstyle, glasses, or even a false mustache.

In addition, the smartphone will be able to recognize its owner even at night. Apple claims that all information about the user’s face is stored on the iPhone itself and will not be sent anywhere.

Needless to say, the Face ID system cannot be deceived using a user’s photo? And the chances of a false positive are one in a million.

Among the new entertainment features is the ability to create and send so-called Animoji (3D emoji), which repeat the user's facial expressions.

Hardware

iPhone X is based on the new Apple11 SoC platform, which includes a 64-bit six-core processor and 3-core graphics chip. According to Apple, the new hardware platform is 25% more productive than the previous A10 in terms of processor and 30% in terms of graphics.

Screen

The display is based on an OLED matrix and, in Apple terminology, is called Super Retina Display. In numbers it looks like this: diagonal - 5.8 inches, resolution - 2436x1125 pixels with a pixel density of 458 ppi. The display supports 3D Touch and True Tone technologies; not only brightness, but also color rendition automatically adjusts to environmental conditions.

Camera

The main camera is made on the basis of two modules - both 12 megapixels. One camera has the usual wide-angle optics (F/1.8), the second has telephoto (F/2.4). An LED flash based on four LEDs is installed between the camera modules. Both cameras are equipped with optical stabilization, in addition, a number of sources claim that the physical size of the sensors has also increased. This means that the pictures will be more detailed, and the quality of photos in low light conditions will improve.

The front camera has a resolution of 7 megapixels, but now the software background blur function is also available for it (imitation of the bokeh effect, like in cameras).

As for video, the main camera can now record videos in 4K at 60 fps. The video capabilities of the front camera are limited to Full HD resolution.

Atonomy

Will iPhone X last longer than iPhone 7? “It will,” says the manufacturer. However, the increase is small - only 2 hours in mixed use.

Wireless charger

The introduction of wireless charging from Apple has been expected for a long time. The iPhone X will finally get this feature. Support for wireless charging according to the Qi standard is declared. This means that it will be possible to use chargers from third-party manufacturers - the same Samsung, for example. It is stated that in 30 minutes the iPhone X can be charged wirelessly by 50%.

Apple also announced an AirPower wireless mat that can charge the iPhone X at the same time. Apple Watch and AirPods.

Price

As expected, the iPhone X will become the most expensive iPhone in Apple history. Behind basic version with 64 GB of memory on board you will have to pay $999. The maximum configuration will accommodate as much as 256 GB of memory. Worldwide leaks start on November 3rd. And for now we can only guess what prices will be in our Ukrainian realities.

Only two color solutions have been announced: Space Gray and Silver. Perhaps more colors will be offered in the future.

The new iPhone is an Apple smartphone, the launch of which is timed to coincide with the anniversary of the original iPhone 2G. The iPhone is expected to have an all-glass body, a virtually frameless OLED display, an ultra-precise Face ID facial scanner, support for fast and wireless charging, a dual L-shaped battery and many other unique features. Presentation of iPhone 8 - . date iPhone release 8 is tentatively scheduled for September 22. iPhone price 8 will be from .

Name

Back in early 2017, leading analysts announced that Apple intended to release not two iPhones, but three new models at once. One of the new products will be the most technologically advanced and special in every sense, since its launch will be timed to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone.

And this very anniversary iPhone was never named. Until August-September 2017, the smartphone bore the code name “iPhone 8”, but recent leaks have made it possible to determine its real name. A mention was found in the code of the Golden Master version of iOS 11 iPhone X- this is what the anniversary Apple smartphone will be called.

It is noteworthy that this name of the smartphone was predicted by Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arceri back in January 2017. At the same time, the specialist pointed out several features of the upcoming new product, in particular a 5.8-inch OLED display, which subsequently received numerous confirmations.

Despite the fact that the name iPhone X was directly hinted at by iOS 11 (Apple is essentially responsible for the leak), the possibility that the model will be called differently still remains. The iPhone X name has only one real competitor - iPhone Edition.

Design

iPhone X will be significantly different in design from previous models. The back surface of the smartphone body will not be aluminum, like iPhone latest several generations, but glass. In the iPhone X, Apple will use reinforced glass, which is extremely resistant to scratches and falls. In other words, the glass won't make the iPhone X fragile.

Quite the contrary. Insiders said that the iPhone X body will be slightly thicker than previous Apple smartphones. The probable dimensions of the new product were revealed by iDrop News sources at the end of May. According to them, the dimensions of the iPhone X will be 143.59 × 70.94 × 7.57 mm, which in all respects is larger than that of the same 4.7-inch iPhone 7 - 138.3 × 67.1 × 7.1 mm. The iPhone X will also gain weight, but the smartphone will not be frankly heavy. Unfortunately, insiders were unable to find out the exact weight of the model.

When comparing the dimensions of the iPhone X and iPhone 7, you can see that the upcoming new Apple larger than the previous model in height. The fact is that the form factor of the iPhone X will change compared to the iPhone of the last few years. Apple will equip the smartphone with a display with an aspect ratio of 18:9 - more elongated than the usual 16:9 aspect ratio screens on modern smartphones. Along with the display, the body of the iPhone X will also elongate, which due to this will take on an original appearance. It is important to emphasize that Apple will not be the first manufacturer to decide on such a change in form factor. Previously, LG and Samsung released their smartphones with an 18:9 aspect ratio.

As for the shape of the iPhone X case, it will remain recognizable. The smartphone body will have the usual rounded edges. Apple is not going to switch to something truly non-standard for itself, for example, cases with sharp corners in the Sony style.

In terms of size, the iPhone X will fit between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The following image allows you to clearly assess how the new Apple product will look compared to other smartphones.

The main change in the design of the iPhone X is associated with the front panel, which will be transformed beyond recognition. The iPhone X display (about which more below) will have virtually no frames around the perimeter. To be more precise, the side and bottom frames will be reduced to a few millimeters, and the top one will receive original cutouts on the sides. Following the bottom frame iPhone display X and the classic physical Home button will disappear. The smartphone simply won’t have it, and the functionality of the button will be taken over by iOS 11, which will feature new controls.

The iPhone X design described above has been confirmed by reputable analysts, insiders, and even indirectly by Apple itself. IN iOS code 11 and firmware for the HomePod smart speaker, schematic images of just this have been repeatedly found appearance iPhone X. Forbes magazine also reported a similar design of the smartphone in July, citing its own verified sources at Apple. The publication managed to obtain drawings of the final version of the iPhone X, which the designers turned into visualizations of the final appearance of the anniversary Apple smartphone.

Case colors

There are two possible versions about what body colors the iPhone X will be released in. According to the first, voiced by the same Forbes magazine, the new Apple product will be released in white, black and glossy “black onyx”.

According to another version, from the authoritative KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone X will be released in black, white and a new copper-gold color called “Blush Gold”. Note that the likelihood of the release of the iPhone X in copper-gold color in early September was indirectly confirmed by a leak from the GM version of iOS 11. A mention of Apple's release Watch Series 3 comes in just such a copper-gold color, which will also be new for smart watches. Such an Apple Watch will be ideal for an iPhone X in a similar color, experts say.

Display

One of the key iPhone features X will become the display. The smartphone will have a 5.8-inch OLED display with an aspect ratio of 18:9, a resolution of 2426×1125 pixels and a density of 521 ppi. According to the aforementioned Ming-Chi Kuo, the active display area of the iPhone X will be 5.15 inches, and the remaining space will be occupied by the so-called functional area. It will house the Dock panel and a new special iOS element that takes on some of the functionality of the Home button.

As already noted, there will be virtually no frames around the perimeter of the iPhone X display. The side and bottom frames will be reduced to a minimum, and from the top frame there will be a substrate in the middle, on which all the components necessary for a smartphone will be placed, from the front camera to light sensors, proximity sensors and others.

According to mobile technology experts, Apple deliberately decided not to make the iPhone X completely frameless. The reason is the company's desire to allow smartphone owners to use the device with maximum convenience. Complete absence frames around the display would certainly be associated with accidental clicks when interacting with a smartphone. Experts cite the Galaxy S8 and LG G6 as examples of devices with “frameless” displays, which often cause accidental clicks. Outwardly, their absolutely “frameless” displays look amazing, but in operation, unwanted clicks happen every now and then.

A significant reduction in the iPhone X display bezels was predicted not only by insiders. A simple but informative schematic representation of Apple's anniversary smartphone was found in the firmware code for the HomePod smart speaker. It confirmed previous statements from various sources about a noticeable reduction in the iPhone X display bezels.

At the beginning of September, the GM version of iOS 11 revealed a similar schematic illustration of the front panel of the iPhone X, as well as instructions showing how to activate the SOS mode on the new Apple smartphone.

By reducing the bezels, the iPhone X display will have a diagonal of 5.8 inches. At the same time, the dimensions of the smartphone will be only slightly larger than the 4.7-inch iPhone 7. Analysts believe that such a decision by Apple will have a very beneficial effect on consumer interest in the iPhone X. The flagship will have a huge display, but will remain relatively compact. The comparison below allows you to evaluate how the iPhone X will look against the background of the latest smartphones from other manufacturers.

The iPhone X display will attract not only its size and minimal bezels, but also its quality. iPhone X will be the first Apple smartphone with an OLED display, which has better color rendition, more saturated colors and increased contrast compared to liquid crystal displays. Alas, insiders were unable to find out any specific characteristics of the iPhone X OLED screen, but it is expected that there will be differences from competitors’ solutions and they should be significant. There really is a need for this, since smartphones with OLED displays from other manufacturers have been entering the market for many years.

An additional advantage of using an OLED display in the iPhone X will be its high energy efficiency. The smartphone screen will consume less energy compared to LCD displays, which means the autonomy of the iPhone X can be increased.

The iPhone X display will also have one truly unique feature. We are talking about True Tone color temperature adaptation technology, support for which will appear in Apple flagship. This technology monitors the ambient light conditions and automatically adjusts the screen color temperature to the external conditions. With True Tone, your iPhone X display will always have the ideal color temperature for your work. On this moment displays with True Tone support are equipped only iPad tablets Pro. Thus, the iPhone X will be the first smartphone to have this feature.

Specifications

The iPhone X will be powered by a 64-bit six-core Apple A11 processor manufactured by TSMC on a 10-nanometer process. Detailed specifications of the chip have not been revealed, but it is expected to significantly outperform the A10X processor used in the 2017 iPad Pro. This means that the frequency of the Apple A11 performance cores will be at least 2.38 GHz. The performance increase will be around 35-45% compared to the Apple A10 Fusion, which was used in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.

Using an advanced process technology will not only reduce the size of the Apple A11 chip, but will also make it much more energy efficient. According to several sources, the energy consumption of the A11 processor will be 35% less than that of the A10 Fusion.

TSMC will be the sole manufacturer of A11 chips. As was the case with the processors for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, Apple decided to abandon cooperation with Samsung. It is assumed that the refusal to partner with the South Korean company in this area is only temporary.

With exact operating volume iPhone memory X insiders couldn't decide. Some believe that the smartphone will receive 3 GB of RAM, like the iPhone 7 Plus, others believe that 4 GB. Increased volume random access memory may be necessary for a smartphone, the latter are sure, since processing pictures and videos from the improved iPhone X camera will require more resources. All experts, without exception, believe that the RAM modules of the iPhone X will have a 15% increase in speed compared to the modules used in previous models.

There is no exact certainty about the possible amount of internal memory of the iPhone X. Various insiders and analysts predict the following configuration options for the smartphone:

  • 32/128/256 GB of memory,
  • 64/128/512 GB memory,
  • 64/256/512 GB memory,
  • 128/256 GB of memory.

The largest number of experts believe in Apple's plans to launch the iPhone X with 64/256/512 GB of internal memory. If this actually happens, the maximum storage capacity of the iPhone X will be doubled compared to any previous models. The latest confirmation of Apple's intention to release the iPhone X in precisely these configurations was given in early September by The Wall Street Journal, citing trusted sources in the Apple camp.

The iPhone X will feature a completely new chip for Apple mobile devices - the Apple Neural Engine. It will take over all voice tasks Siri assistant and facial recognition systems. The smartphone will receive two main benefits from using the Apple Neural Engine. First, Siri and Face ID will operate at the fastest possible speed. And secondly, the load on the main processor will be noticeably reduced, as a result of which the battery life of the iPhone X will increase.

Face ID scanner

The iPhone X will debut an ultra-precise Face ID facial scanner, which will become the main security system for the smartphone, replacing the fingerprint scanner in this position. finger touch ID. According to numerous leaks, Face ID will recognize the owner's face in a split second, even in low light conditions. Moreover, the scanner will be able to work at an angle. According to several reports from trusted sources, the iPhone X will recognize the user without direct contact with the face, for example, while on a table.

Using Face ID, iPhone X users will be able to not only unlock their smartphone, but also verify their identity when making purchases. In other words, Face ID will have to completely replace Touch ID, gaining all its key features.

Touch ID

What about the iPhone's traditional Touch ID fingerprint scanner? Reports from various informants in August and September 2017 made it clear that the iPhone X would not have a fingerprint scanner at all. Most likely, Apple was forced to refuse to equip its flagship with Touch ID. The reason is said to be the occurrence of serious technical problems when integrating the scanner into the smartphone display. Such a solution, without a doubt, would be revolutionary, since there is nothing similar on the modern market, however, the speed and stability of fingerprint recognition left much to be desired. As a result, Apple management decided to take a rather unexpected step and exclude Touch ID from the iPhone X.

Battery

iPhone X will change both externally and internally. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to change the structure of the smartphone's motherboard, reducing it by almost half. Due to this, under iPhone case X will have more space to accommodate the larger dual L-shaped battery. Capacity iPhone batteries X will be 2,700 mAh.

The increased capacity battery will bring the battery life of the iPhone X to the same level as the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. The new Apple product will be able to work for more than 20 hours of talk time - a very impressive figure for a smartphone with relatively small dimensions. As we have already noted, the autonomy of the iPhone X will be positively affected by the OLED display and the Apple A11 chip with increased energy efficiency.

Wireless charger

Another new feature of the iPhone X will be wireless charging. The smartphone will be charged wirelessly in the most classic way - on a special docking station. Initially, many insiders claimed that Apple was planning to make a technological revolution and equip the iPhone X with support for remote wireless charging, but later these rumors remained just rumors. Perhaps in the case of this technology, not everything went as smoothly as expected for Apple.

About the wireless function iPhone charging X there are several less than pleasant details. First of all, it is known that a docking station for charging a smartphone wirelessly will not be supplied with the smartphone. It will have to be purchased separately, most likely at a considerable price. A very strange decision from Apple, especially given that the iPhone X itself will have a very high price.

Also, the famous journalist John Gruber reported that immediately after the release of the iPhone X it will not be possible to charge wirelessly at all. The final version of iOS 11 simply will not support wireless charging. It will appear only in iOS 11.1, just as a year earlier, support for portrait mode on the iPhone 7 Plus appeared only in iOS 10.1. The journalist cites software problems that arose during the development of the system as the reason for the delay in the appearance of wireless charging in iOS 11.

However, the very fact of the appearance of wireless charging in the iPhone X cannot but rejoice, since this function is new for Apple smartphones. There can be no doubt that wireless charging will appear in the iPhone X. In addition to the statements of analysts and insiders, it was confirmed by iOS 11. In beta versions of the system, a new sound file named “engage_power.caf” was found, which, according to the developers, will be played when the iPhone X is installed on the docking station for charging.

A little later, the firmware for the HomePod smart speaker also indicated the presence of wireless charging support for the iPhone X. It contained dozens of lines of code describing a new type of iPhone charging. Apple developers couldn’t just leave them in the code.

Fast charging

The iPhone X will also support fast charging, not through the USB-C connector, but through the traditional and familiar Lighting. The connector will receive support for Type-C Power Delivery technology, due to which the iPhone X will be able to charge “significantly faster” than previous Apple smartphones. True, at the moment there is no information about the specific charging time of the iPhone X from 0 to 100%.

Waterproof

iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus were the first Apple smartphones with officially declared water resistance (IP67 protection). With the iPhone X, the company decided to go even further and make the smartphone completely waterproof. According to insiders, the iPhone X will be protected from moisture and dust according to the IP68 standard. This means that the smartphone can easily withstand long-term immersion in water to a depth of one and a half meters. The original “sevens”, let us remind you, are resistant only to short stays in water and splashes.

3D Touch and Taptic Engine

iPhone X will support pressure-sensing technology on the second-generation 3D Touch display. The improved version of 3D Touch will differ from the original in an expanded range of reading pressure levels and increased sensitivity. As stated by Ming-Chi Kuo, a new version 3D Touch will bring with it new control gestures, although the analyst did not specify which ones.

Note that the development of a new generation of 3D Touch could become a necessary measure for Apple. Due to the transition to an OLED display, the use of the original 3D Touch technology turned out to be impossible, and therefore the company refined the technology, and at the same time made serious improvements to it.

In addition to 3D Touch, the iPhone X will also improve the Taptic Engine. The haptic feedback mechanism will gain the ability to create more complex vibrations with more realistic sensations.

Cameras

iPhone X will receive a dual camera with wide-angle and telephoto lenses. The smartphone's camera will be positioned vertically and not horizontally, like a similar module in the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus. Due to the original camera rotation, the iPhone X will be able to create 3D photographs. In addition to 3D photos, thanks to the vertical positioning of the iPhone X camera, it will have enhanced capabilities for working with augmented reality.

The iPhone X camera will have another interesting software feature. When shooting, it will be able to detect different scenes, automatically adjusting the parameters to suit them. IN beta versions of iOS 11, references to various similar scenes were found, such as “Sunset”, “Sunrise”, “Sky”, “Sports”, “Foliage”, etc. By adapting to certain scenes, the iPhone X camera will be able to produce the best photos.

The quality of shooting from the main camera of the iPhone X will increase significantly. When studying the GM version of iOS 11, it turned out that the camera will be able to shoot video in the following new resolutions:

  • 1080p HD at 240 fps,
  • 4K@24fps (cinematic),
  • 4K at 60 fps.

There will also be improvements for the photo mode. Both iPhone X cameras will have optical image stabilization, and the optical zoom will be four times versus two times for the iPhone 7 Plus.

No less impressive improvements await the front camera. In the iPhone X, the front camera will be supported by two new infrared sensors capable of determining the location of objects and their depth. Thereby, front-camera Apple's flagship will have enhanced capabilities for identifying faces and objects in photos, as well as when working with augmented reality.

operating system

And even the iOS 11 operating system on the iPhone X will be special. The most noticeable change in the iOS 11 version for Apple's flagship will be the Dock, almost the same as the iPad. On it, iPhone X owners will be able to arrange icons for the most frequently used applications, and then access them from anywhere in the system. At the same time, the Dock can be moved around the screen.

Under Dock The iPhone X will feature a thin touch strip that will almost single-handedly take over all the functionality of the Home button. On the lock screen, this strip will be responsible for unlocking the device, and on the main screen and in applications, it will open the menu for switching between applications. Calling the Siri voice assistant on iPhone X will be done by long-holding the power button.

Price

How much will iPhone X cost? A question to which even the most eminent analysts give different answers. The cost of the iPhone X, according to various information, ranges from $899 to $1,199 for the base model alone. At the same time, even though the iPhone X will be presented very soon, they have not been able to decide on the final price of the smartphone.

The Wall Street Journal decided to bring some clarity to the confusion surrounding the pricing of the iPhone X at the end of August. According to his sources working at Apple, the iPhone X will sell for $999 per starting version with 64 GB of memory. The full list of models being prepared for presentation looks like this:

  • iPhone X 64 GB - $999
  • iPhone X 256 GB - $1099
  • iPhone X 512 GB - $1199

WSJ's sources can be trusted only because they were the only ones to name the correct date for Apple's September presentation. Note that similar prices for iPhone X were subsequently confirmed by well-known insider Veniamin Geskin.

The prices announced by WSJ are not the highest of those predicted for the iPhone X. But even at a price of $999 for the base model, Apple’s new product will be the most expensive smartphone company throughout its history.

Where to buy iPhone 10 cheaper?

In 2018, they introduced their new smartphone iPhone XS, which did not become anything revolutionary, but only continued the iPhone 10 line. But the good news is that this still affected the price tag of that truly revolutionary phone and now you can buy it for 64,950 rubles , instead of the iPhone XS, the price tag for which in Russia starts and reaches 128,000 rubles.

The most profitable and reliable option is to buy an iPhone on AliExpress, while it costs 64,950 rubles there. Already 2147 people bought from this seller alone! After all, you don’t have to wait a month for it from China, since there is a TMall project that sells goods that have already been brought to Russia. So, if you are in Moscow, the courier will bring the phone on the day of order, and to any region the delivery time is from 2 to 5 days! These are official phones with an official warranty from Apple.

But you can buy it even cheaper if you get cashback for your purchase using LetyShops.

But it fell in price not only on Ali, but also in other stores:
1. C-store - RUB 69,990
2. Beeline - 65,000 rub.(Taking into account, the discount is 5000 rubles using the promo code up to September 30th!)
3. Messenger -

In just a month, iPhone X (or 10) sales will start in Russia. Taking into account the fact that the 8 and 8 Plus models are already being sold in full swing on the domestic market, this will be the third “Apple” product in two months. This Apple record is explained by a significant anniversary: 10 years since the release of the first smartphone with a “bitten apple” on the back panel. The official release date for the iPhone X is November 3. It is on the model with an X at the end that the greatest hopes are pinned. This gadget should become the most powerful and modern smartphone in the world. IN this review we will try to find out whether the new device will be able to live up to expectations and whether it is worth buying.

Contents and design features of iPhone X

The package contents of the dozen completely replicate the contents of the packaging of the 8th model. Inside the box the user will find:

  • iPhone X itself;
  • operational manual for it;
  • EarPods headset with Lightning connector;
  • Lightning/USB cable;
  • 5 W network adapter (it has a USB input);
  • Lightning adapter/3.5 mm input (the adapter allows you to connect a third-party headset to your iPhone).
As you can see, nothing new awaits us here, which, in principle, can be considered a plus.

During iPhone presentations X, which took place in early September, a lot of attention was paid to the design of the smartphone. This is not surprising, because there are interesting innovations here (unlike many other characteristics). First of all, the iPhone X is frameless. More precisely, small frames are still present around the perimeter of the device, but you hardly pay attention to them when using it.

The second innovation is already familiar to those who have acquired an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus. The tenth model has a glass body on both the front and back. According to the developers, this is the most durable glass that has ever been installed on smartphones. In the 10th model, the reinforcing layer is 50% thicker than in previous Apple phones. During development, as many as 7 layers of a specific color were applied so that the shade of the finished product looked rich and organic. Speaking of color. Lovers of gold and pink tones will be disappointed, because only two color options will hit the market: silver and “space gray.” Perhaps this is for the better, because these shades are the most universal.

The rounded ends of the new device are made of so-called surgical stainless steel. This alloy was developed specifically for the iPhone X. It not only gives the gadget additional strength, but also decorates it. By the way, in “space gray” models, a special coating was applied to the sides so that the ends of the device perfectly matched the back in shade.

The front and back panels of the Tens have an oleophobic coating that minimizes the likelihood of smudges and fingerprints. But even if such a defect is detected, the user can easily get rid of it by wiping the surface with a dry cloth. Like the 8 and 8 Plus models, the iPhone case is designed to protect its technical components from the harmful effects of dust, water and splashes.

Since the iPhone X is positioned as a frameless smartphone, it is easy to guess that almost its entire front part is occupied by the display. Thanks to unique production technology, Apple engineers literally combined the screen and body into a single whole. When first visually acquainted with the smartphone, it seems as if the thin edges around the display are an extension of it, and not a separate part.

At the bottom of the front panel, the user will find the first design innovation - the absence of a Home button. At the top there is a rectangular notch that houses the front camera, sensors, microphone and speakers. We will find out a little later why the designers took such a step.

On the left side of the dozen, the owner will find familiar buttons - volume controls and a key to activate/deactivate the silent mode. On the right is a multifunction key that will be responsible for:

  • lock your smartphone, turn on/off the screen (one click);
  • call Siri (one long press);
  • Apple Pay withdrawal (two clicks).
The principle of its use is quite simple, although many potential owners may already wonder how to turn off the device. Of course, there will be those who will say: “why turn off the iPhone at all.” Despite the fact that this feature is used extremely rarely, it should still exist. It is not yet clear whether it is possible to turn off the device with this button, but we know exactly how to do this through the operating system. You can either select the corresponding item in the settings, or call the emergency panel (click the right button five times), where there is also a corresponding item. In principle, the new control style should be more convenient; the owner will just have to get used to it for some time.

The bottom end of the iPhone X remained unchanged. Here are:

  • Lightning connector;
  • stereo speakers;
  • microphone.
Everything looks familiar from the back too. Just above the center there is a “bitten apple”, just below it there is the inscription iPhone. But the main camera has changed. She's still on the left top corner. Like the 8 Plus model, there is a dual module installed here. However, there are a couple of significant differences from previous versions:
  • the module became vertical;
  • the camera itself protrudes slightly above the glass surface.
While the vertical position of the main photosensor can be called justified, since it is determined by the design of the device itself, many consider bulging to be a disadvantage. And this is not pickiness - the volumetric module really spoils the overall design. Of course, you can visually level the entire back surface, but only with the help of a cover.

Now let's talk about size and weight. iPhone X has the following dimensions:

  • height - 143.6 mm;
  • width - 70.9 mm;
  • thickness - 7.7 mm.
The device in question weighs 174 g.

In the design of the iPhone X, engineers improved what they implemented in the 8 and 8 Plus models. In addition, they added several design innovations that will take some getting used to. Overall, the top ten looks stylish and modern. Now let's talk about its technical features.

New iPhone X: display characteristics

Screen quality is one of the first points that an experienced user pays attention to. That is why Apple engineers paid special attention to this element. The tenth iPhone was equipped with a Super Retina HD display based on OLED technology. The screen diagonal is 5.8 inches. The supported resolution is 2436x1125 pixels, with 458 pixels concentrated per inch.

Improvements in the underlying technology have significantly improved picture quality. Thus, the contrast ratio on the screen is an impressive 1,000,000:1. The brightness value can reach 625 cd/m2. In addition, the iPhone X display supports the already familiar True Tone function, which automatically adjusts the white balance, adjusting to the intensity of ambient light. Thanks to this function, the user’s eyes do not get tired even when working with the device for a long time. Fans of late-night reading or watching movies will certainly appreciate this technical point. True Tone can be disabled if desired.

Another important property of the iPhone X screen is that the OLED panel fills it entirely without image distortion. The fact is that the engineers placed the microcircuits according to a tiered principle, and the location of the controller was also changed. Thanks to this step, pixels located in the corners of the screen are smoothed at the level of so-called subpixels. As a result, the picture is not distorted in the corners and looks just as smooth as in the center.

The name of the display contains the word Super for a reason. Apple engineers have used advanced color correction technology that is superior to similar systems used in all previous iPhones (including 8 and Plus). Thanks to it, the most accurate transmission of all shades conceived by the director or designer occurs. The color format is absolutely unimportant (be it P3 or sRGB). Each shade on the iPhone X screen will be original, and not adjusted to the capabilities of the display.

We can’t help but mention the support for HDR (high dynamic range). With its help, you can truly enjoy watching movies in Dolby Vision or HDR10 formats. Moreover, photos taken in HDR mode will look as clear and rich as possible.

Other iPhone X display features include:

  • multitouch support;
  • 3D Touch support;
  • the ability to simultaneously display multiple languages.
So we looked at the main specifications iPhone X display. However, a few words should also be said about the control capabilities. As mentioned above, the engineers completely removed the Home button, which in many models was one of the key design highlights. In the top ten, almost all of its functions were taken over by the display. As you know, the main task of the Home key has always been to minimize the running application. To minimize a program or game on iPhone 10, you need to swipe from the bottom of the display to the top (not necessarily all the way). In addition, a similar action can be used to activate multitasking (display all minimized applications). You need to start swiping, go to about the lower third of the display and leave your finger on it. That's all. Programs to choose from are at your disposal. In addition, you can activate the screen with one tap. Simply touch the display with your finger and it will activate.

In principle, this innovation is attractive. It’s just that during operation certain incidents may arise. For example, when you quickly scroll through a news feed on a social network, you can minimize the application, and if you scroll through your Instagram feed without lifting your finger, you can enable multitasking. It is not yet possible to say how often these shortcomings will appear. Most likely, we will find out the exact answer only after the start official sales iPhone X

Review of the technical stuffing of the Apple iPhone X

Now we have reached the moment when we can find out whether the top ten will be able to claim the title of the most powerful smartphone modernity. So, here we go:
  1. CPU. Only thanks to this component can the ambitions of the iPhone X be considered at least somewhat justified. The engineers equipped their brainchild with a 6-core A11 Bionic chip, the architecture of which includes 4.3 billion transistors. As in the iPhone 8 series, the processor cores are divided into 2 categories: those that are responsible for efficiency (4 of them), and those that provide performance (2 of them). “Efficient” cores run 70% faster than similar elements in the A10 Fusion chip. The performance cores operate 25% faster than the components of the same A10 Fusion. If any application turns out to be too demanding, the system will start using all 6 cores. In addition, a special neural system is included in the processor architecture. This is a type of artificial intelligence that will allow the device to learn by analyzing the information it collects. This system operates on two cores. It can recognize faces and objects. During training, the system performs about 600 billion operations per second. Proper functioning iPhone processor The X is especially noticeable in everyday use. If a person uses a smartphone only for work (sending messages, making calls, surfing the Internet), the system produces the power that is needed to perform the above tasks. Thus, the iPhone 10 does not work at the edge of its capabilities when it is not necessary. This significantly saves battery power. Special attention It is worth paying attention to the possibilities of augmented reality. Applications that support this function, will work more smoothly. In addition, in combination with a high-quality display, the processor will make the virtual picture as clear and realistic as possible.
  2. Video processor. When working with graphics, a 3-core video card is used. It will provide 30% more performance than a similar element on the A10 Fusion. Any games will be played with a large number of fps, and the same augmented reality will provide the user with an exciting pastime.
  3. RAM. Perhaps this is the element technical stuffing, on which the engineers decided to save money. The iPhone X has 3 GB of RAM. Of course, thanks to Apple’s legendary optimization, all applications will work without problems, but on such an expensive flagship I would like to see more impressive numbers.
  4. Physical memory. And this is the main manipulation tool from Apple manufacturers. Two variants of devices will be available for sale: with 64 and 256 gigabytes. free space. Do you also see this gap between the two types of assembly? And okay, if there were fewer opportunities in the top ten, one could turn a blind eye to such a huge discrepancy. But the iPhone X was assembled using advanced technologies, it was equipped with a powerful processor, good graphics card. It would seem that you are allowed everything: play whatever you want, use augmented reality, take high-quality photographs. But there will be nowhere to store all this stuff. 64 GB for modern applications, music and photos is essentially nothing. You have a choice, buy the 256 GB iPhone X assembly, although you will have to pay 12 thousand rubles more for it. In general, Apple is in its repertoire.
  5. Operating system. The functioning of the device is ensured by iOS 11. This is already enough not to worry about the quality of the smartphone. True, some users are concerned about how all applications will be optimized for such a large and high-tech screen. But here, most likely, there will be no problems. Optimization has always been the main trump card of Apple developers, so by the time the iPhone X officially goes on sale, all defects (if any) will be corrected.

Multimedia functionality of iPhone X

This question can be divided into 3 groups: the capabilities of the main camera, the features of the front camera, music and video playback. To avoid confusion, we will consider each group separately.

Main camera

The iPhone 10 has a module worthy of a flagship device. Engineers equipped the 10 with a dual camera, including a wide-angle and telephoto lens. The quality of both lenses is 12 megapixels. The wide-angle aperture is f/1.8. The telephoto lens boasts an even higher value - f/2.4. The design of the main photo module includes a True Tone Quad-LED flash that supports the Slow Sync function. There is also a hybrid infrared port and a BSI sensor. In order to protect the lenses from scratches and other physical defects, they are equipped with sapphire glass.

The functionality of the main camera is unusually wide. With its help you can:

  • shoot in portrait mode;
  • perform double optical image stabilization;
  • do 10x digital zoom;
  • conduct panoramic shooting, the quality of which will be about 63 megapixels;
  • automatically focus the picture;
  • control exposure;
  • suppress noise;
  • take photographs in HDR mode;
  • carry out automatic image stabilization;
  • enable facial recognition;
  • shoot using a timer;
  • Place geotags on photos.
And these are just the photography possibilities. When creating videos, the main camera will allow you to:
  • record video in 4K quality at frame rates of 24, 30 or 60 fps;
  • record Full HD video at a frame rate of 30 or 60 fps;
  • record videos in HD quality at 30 fps;
  • carry out optical image stabilization;
  • zoom in 6x while shooting videos;
  • record slow-motion video in Full HD quality at 120 or 240 fps;
  • conduct time-lapse video shooting with parallel image stabilization;
  • carry out cinematic stabilization of video footage (with HD or Full HD quality);
  • use tracking auto focus;
  • enable facial recognition;
  • suppress noise;
  • take photos directly while recording a video with high quality Ultra Full HD;
  • zoom in directly while recording video;
  • set a geotag.
Finished videos can be in HEVC or H.264 format.

Front-camera

For once, we will pay much more attention to the front camera. Why? Now you'll find out.

The main technical characteristics of the additional module do not stand out as anything special, although they are quite decent. The quality of the additional camera is 7 megapixels. It has an f/2.2 aperture. To enhance the quality of selfies, a Retina Flash is provided. The design of the front camera includes the already mentioned BSI sensor. Using the additional module you can:

  • take photos in portrait mode;
  • shoot in HDR mode;
  • take pictures while simulating portrait lighting (as in photo studios);
  • activate auto image stabilization;
  • enable facial recognition;
  • carry out serial photography;
  • exercise control over exposure;
  • shoot using a timer;
  • create videos with Full HD quality.
However, there are a number of highlights that make the front camera of the iPhone X the most advanced of its kind. First of all, it supports TrueDepth shooting mode. When activated, faces in selfies will be as clear as possible, while the background will be slightly blurred.

And now the cherries on the cake. Until now, we have never mentioned how you can unlock the iPhone 10. Before the official presentation, everyone thought that the engineers would simply move the fingerprint sensor to another place - for example, on the back panel, like on Xiaomi. But no, they went even further. So, unlocking the 10th iPhone is carried out using Face ID technology, that is, by the user’s face. The operation of this technology is ensured by a whole complex of elements located in the cutout in the upper part of the front panel.

Let's figure out how it all works:

  1. Front-camera takes a photo of the owner's face.
  2. Point projector, located to the right of the front camera, projects more than 30 thousand invisible dots onto the user’s face. Thanks to this, a unique map of the human face is created.
  3. Infrared camera, located on the left side of the cutout, reads the facial point structure, creating an image in the IR spectrum. The received data is sent to a module called Secure Enclave, which is part of the A11 Bionic processor. This module stores the unique facial structure of the owner.
If the user needs to unlock the phone, everything will happen like this: the camera will take a photo, the sensors will read the face card and compare it with the existing data. If everything matches, the smartphone will be unlocked.

Of course, a number of questions may arise here regarding how well such a complex system will work. However, the manufacturers assure that the phone will be used without problems. Firstly, there is an infrared emitter in the cutout to the left of the speaker. It will allow the smartphone to recognize the face of its owner even in the dark. Secondly, the A11 Bionic processor is directly responsible for the operation of Face ID technology, and we remember that it has a learning function. This means that the iPhone X will be able to adapt to minor changes in the appearance of its owner. Thus, you can safely change your hairstyle and makeup style; men can grow any beard or, on the contrary, shave it off. The main condition for successful identification is having your eyes open, so no one will be able to rummage through your phone using a photo or while you are sleeping.

And the latest addition to the iPhone X's front camera is purely for entertainment. It is capable of recording and analyzing facial expressions of more than 50 facial muscles. Based on the information received, 12 Animoji are created, which can then be inserted into messages.

Playing media files

There is no point in dwelling on this point in detail, since we will not find anything new here. iPhone X will easily play the same audio formats (MP3, FLAC, Apple Lossless, AAC-LC) and video (H.264, HEVC, MPEG-4, Motion JPEG).

Network capabilities of iPhone X

As befits a representative of mobile technology, the tenth iPhone supports Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth version 5.0. Also, there is NFC support with read mode. The device can navigate to:
  • digital compass;
  • GLONASS;
  • Assisted GPS;
  • Galileo;
  • QZSS.
In addition, it is possible to determine the exact location. The iBeacon service is used for this purpose.

Like its younger siblings, the iPhone X can make FaceTime video and audio calls. For this function to work without problems, it is desirable to have a Wi-Fi connection. Although FaceTime calls can also function over a regular mobile network.

iPhone X battery life

Silence of exact information about the battery is an unshakable Apple tradition. It is only known that the built-in lithium-ion battery will allow the device to work 2 hours longer than the 7th iPhone. From this we can conclude that:
  1. With continuous iPhone conversation X will work for about 21 hours.
  2. With active Internet surfing, the battery charge will be used up in 12 hours.
  3. With online video playback, the device will last about 13 hours.
  4. Continuous music playback will drain the battery in about 60 hours.
Restore stock energy iPhone 10 will also be possible wirelessly using the Qi10 standard. Here, too, you will have to use third-party devices, since Apple’s proprietary wireless charging will only be released in 2018.

iPhone 10: supporting information

The new Apple smartphone is equipped with:
  • barometer;
  • accelerometer;
  • three-axis gyroscope;
  • proximity sensor;
  • light sensor.
Already when purchasing the tenth iPhone, the user is provided with 34 applications. The existing set is quite enough to get started with the device. In addition, through Apple Store 11 additional free programs can be downloaded.

In order to properly synchronize with iTunes, the devices to which the iPhone is connected must have the following OS versions installed: at least Windows 7 on a regular PC or Mac OS X 10.10.5 (or higher) on an Apple device. The minimum acceptable version of iTunes itself is 12.7.

The tenth iPhone can operate at temperatures from 0 to +35 degrees Celsius. The temperature range for storing the device is from -20 to +45 degrees. The optimal humidity levels for the gadget in question are 5–95%. Maximum height use is 3 km.

Advantages and disadvantages of iPhone X

The main advantages of Apple's latest creation are:
  1. Durable glass body. Thanks to this material, reliable protection of the technical elements of the device is provided. In addition, the glass does not slip in your hand.
  2. Powerful processor. This technical component will provide fast and high-quality iPhone work X. Its architecture allows you to adjust the power level, which has a beneficial effect on autonomy.
  3. Face ID technology. This plus was given, rather, in advance, because there are no mass user reviews yet. However, if the identification technology works properly, it will make the 10th iPhone the most advanced mobile device of our time. Judging by the available information, the engineers have taken into account all the nuances (unlocking in the dark, minor changes in a person’s appearance). The main thing is that Face ID performs well in everyday mass use.
  4. High quality screen. The display of tens is made according to modern standards. Its size and architecture will allow the owner to enjoy watching movies, playing games and surfing the web.
  5. High-tech front camera. Of course, the main module is also good, but the front camera of the iPhone X may be better additional camera modernity. It has a solid set of basic and auxiliary functions, and Animoji created with its help will lift the mood of both the owner and the person with whom he communicates. Don’t think that 7 megapixel front or 12 megapixel modules are not enough in modern realities. The pictures come out very high quality and clear.
Apparently, the iPhone X should become the crown of all the creations of the Apple brand. Nevertheless, even now it can be identified as a whole range of disadvantages:
  1. Protruding main chamber- this seemingly insignificant point greatly spoils the overall design of the entire model.
  2. Notch above the display. Yes, it contains all the components that make Face ID work, but they could be placed much more harmoniously. When using the iPhone during the day, the lack of a notch is almost unnoticeable, but at night the uneven image at the top of the screen will be very noticeable and distracting.
  3. Huge gap between physical memory options. We can say that here Apple is almost acting as extortionists, because 64 gigabytes is definitely not enough with such an abundance of possibilities. The absence of a “golden mean” will literally force most people to spend money on a model with 256 gigabytes on board, and this, for a moment, is another minus 12 thousand rubles from the personal budget. But the decision is quite expected.
  4. Mediocre battery. Yes, thanks to the competent processor architecture, the system will take as much energy as it needs to complete a specific task, but the 10th iPhone should be the best smartphone (as in Apple line, and among everyone mobile phones). And at the end we have a revolutionary gadget with a battery that is inferior in capacity to the battery on the iPhone 7 Plus. And I don’t understand what’s going on with wireless charging. It seems to be supported, but the original one will be released later. It would be worthwhile to work harder for the anniversary and release the charge right away.
  5. Price. It’s not that anyone expected an anniversary budget phone from Apple, but the proposed improvements don’t really amount to 92 thousand rubles. It is unclear why a user, for example, of 7 Plus needs to run out and buy 10. For the glass back? Face unlock? Or animated emoji? Perhaps this is cool for Apple fans, but for Apple’s anniversary, something more was expected than just an improved version of previous devices.

iPhone X price and video review

The price of iPhone X in Russia, as usual, will depend on the storage capacity. For models with 64 gigabytes of memory you will have to pay 79,990 rubles. For an assembly with 256 gigs you will need to pay 91,990 rubles. Below is a detailed video review of the 10th iPhone:

Our iPhone review X is complete. This gadget, as conceived by the developers, was to become a revolutionary Apple product capable of changing the world of mobile devices forever. Did it work? Controversial issue. Of course, the device has its flaws, but they cannot be called catastrophic. The only question is why the 8 and 8 Plus models were released. The whole point Apple policies is to encourage users to buy new devices, but before that they are given a fairly long service life. And then less than a month will pass, and the September models will no longer be relevant. And the innovations introduced into the iPhone 10 do not correspond to the stated price.

Video about the TOP 10 advantages of iPhone X:

On iPhone 8 Plus great camera, but its biggest competitor is also in Apple's line of devices.

The anniversary iPhone X features a new design and additional features, including slightly different cameras. But we're wondering whether the camera improvements on the iPhone X are worth the extra RUB 15,000 over the 8 Plus.

To understand this issue, Cnet journalists took several photos on both smartphones.

What are the differences?

The iPhone X and 8 Plus each have two 12-megapixel cameras on the back with slightly different characteristics. Main differences:

  • The telephoto lens on the iPhone X has a large aperture;
  • In the anniversary model, both sensors have optical stabilization, while in the iPhone 8 Plus it is only in the wide-angle lens.

As for the front cameras, they have the same resolution and aperture, but this year's most premium version has an entire TrueDepth camera system. It includes an infrared camera, sensors and light projectors that can sense depth.

In addition to providing FaceID (Apple's facial recognition feature), this camera is capable of taking selfies in portrait mode.

General impression

To test both smartphones together, they were installed on the platform in such a way that the camera lenses were as close to each other as possible. Because the cameras had different orientations, it was difficult to get the same field of view.

In our comparison test, some photos taken with the iPhone X looked richer and brighter than those taken with the iPhone 8 Plus. But in most cases, in terms of color, detail and dynamic range, smartphones produce very similar images.

When viewing photos on OLED devices, the Anniversary model's screen makes images brighter than those on the 8 Plus.

Portraits

Portraits taken with both smartphones look very good when scaled down. However, when you get closer, fine details like hair look sharper on the iPhone X.

Portrait mode, blurring the background or otherwise the bokeh effect looks similar on both smartphones.

X is for selfie

Portrait mode on the front iPhone camera X looks like a fun activity. You have access to all the same functions as on the main camera, including lighting modes.

It seems like the front camera doesn't take as good a picture as the one on the back, but it's nice to have additional option, which is not present in the regular sensor on the front of the 8 Plus. Note that on other smartphones, for example, Google Pixel 2, portrait mode is created using software without using a camera array to detect depth, like on the iPhone X.

Cameras for proximity

In daylight or good lighting, there is no significant difference between photos taken with the telephoto lenses of the iPhone X and 8 Plus.

The differences will become noticeable when filming any movement or photographing moving objects. If you hold the smartphone relatively motionless, the difference will be insignificant.

Optical stabilization helps make video smoother, which is useful when filming a school concert or play.

Low light scenes

Photos taken with a wide-angle lens in low light are similar. If the light source enters the lens correctly, then in both models the flash fires in the same places. The only thing is that the reflections on the iPhone 8 Plus are a little brighter than on the anniversary model, for example, look at the glassware on the bar:

Portraits taken in low light are noticeably different from each other. The exposure in iPhone X photos is brighter and spread across the entire subject and background, resulting in a more attractive look. The same photo taken with the iPhone 8 Plus has more noise.

Exposure values for iPhone X: f/2.4, 1/30, ISO 500, and for 8 Plus - f/2.8, 1/60, ISO 1250.

Zoom in low light

When using a telephoto lens to zoom in on objects, some differences are visible. Images taken with the Anniversary model look sharper at 100% zoom, especially in areas with a lot of detail. This is easy to explain because the telephoto lens has optical stabilization and a wider aperture, meaning the shutter can stay open longer and more light gets in to the sensor.

On the video side, the difference between normal mode and 2x zoom is barely noticeable when recording stationary subjects. Optical stabilization on iPhone X helps achieve best results when zoomed in twice or in insufficient lighting. But still, no smartphone takes good video in low light because there is a lot of noise.

Flash still not perfect

In portrait mode, the flash makes the eyes appear red. Both images have a lot of noise and even with slow sync it's clear that flash was used.

And the winner is...

There is not much difference between the two smartphones in terms of image and video quality. Although the iPhone X outperforms the iPhone 8 Plus in low light and has a portrait mode for the front camera.

If the purchasing decision is made only on the basis of the camera’s capabilities, then there is no point in paying an additional 15,000 rubles for optical stabilization and a wider aperture on a telephoto lens. However, the iPhone X has other features that justify its higher price.
