Where Timex watches are made. Timex history and Waterbury anniversary collection Timex watches

Timex is one of the world's leading watch brands offering a wide range of watches for customers of all tastes and ages.
History of the brand originates in the middle of the 19th century. For 20 years - from 1850 to 1870 - watchmakers at Waterbury Clock made it possible for even working-class Americans to acquire watches. The popularity of watches grew every day and there was nothing surprising in it - inexpensive, but reliable mechanisms that were mass-produced were quite competitive with more foreign-made watches. The Waterbury Clock tradition is rooted in the Naugatuck Valley of Connecticut, known throughout the nineteenth century as "American Switzerland".

Another 10 years later, in 18880, the Waterbury Clock subsidiary produced the first inexpensive mechanical pocket watch and sold more than any other watch company in the world for the decade that followed. Mostly women worked on assembling "Waterbury", as they have more dexterous fingers and they are better at performing delicate, painstaking work. "Waterbury" pocket watches were sold throughout North America and Europe and could be found even in Africa, where they were presented as gifts to leaders and their families, as well as in a country like Japan.

In the early twentieth century, the first and most successful wholesaler of watches, Robert H. Ingersoll entered into a partnership with Waterbury Clock that resulted in a $ 1 Yankee pocket watch. Twenty years later, with nearly forty million watches sold that "made the dollar famous," he became one of the largest watch retailers in the world. By then, the Yankee was worn by everyone from Mark Twain to miners, farmers to factory workers, from office clerks to managers.

During World War I, at the request of the US Army, the "Yankee" pocket watch was "converted" into a comfortable wristwatch for soldiers, who continued to wear it after returning from the war. Thanks to the example of former soldiers, the watch was also appreciated by civilians - in the twenties of the last century, the watch experienced a second "rise" in payback.

In the 30s of the 20th century in America, and after it all over the world, the cartoon character of the Walt Disney sutdy, Mickey Mouse, gains immense popularity. The Waterbury Clock watch company also did not stand aside and in 1933, under a license from Walt Disney, created the world's first watch with the image of Mickey Mouse. Despite the deep shadow cast by the Great Depression, in just a few years, parents bought two million Mickey Mouse watches for their children. Originally priced at just $ 1.50, today this watch is a valuable collector's item, the value of which is growing every year.

During World War II, the Waterbury Clock, renamed the U.S. Time Company has completely re-equipped its factories for the production of military products. During this period, the company fully justified its reliable reputation, producing a record number of high-quality mechanisms for artillery and anti-aircraft installations for the army.

The company's military expertise and scientific research into advanced mass production techniques resulted in the world's first low-cost yet reliable mechanical watch. A new wristwatch, called Timex, debuted in 1950. Various tests and trials clearly demonstrated the merits of watches: they were frozen in an ice cube, rotated for seven days in a vacuum cleaner, clamped in the claw of a giant lobster, or tied around a turtle in a tank. But despite these and many other tests and trials, continued to work! When John Cameron Swayze, the most authoritative correspondent of the time, began talking about the tests and tests of Timex watches in his programs, in the late 1950s, watch sales skyrocketed. Attached to the blades of an outboard motor or to the wrist of a diver jumping eighty feet off the cliffs in Acapulco, the clock kept running. This could not leave indifferent the Americans, who wrote to the program in thousands with proposals for new tests for watches. By the late 1950s, every third watch bought in the United States was Timex.

The Timex brand name became a household name during the 1960s. Having completely conquered the market for inexpensive watches, the company modernized and improved the production line. This allowed the creation in 1959 of the first women's model "Cavatina" with the trade motto: watches - constant movement. For the price of expensive watches, women could buy several Timex watches to match different occasions or ensembles. Technological developments have allowed the company to offer a wide range of products, including the first inexpensive electronic watches for men and women, as well as budget models decorated with precious stones. The improved movement, introduced in 1961, served as the basis for a new extraordinary collection of men's wristwatches.

By the mid-1970s, the company, renamed Timex Corporation, had sold over 500 million movements. At that time, almost every second watch bought in the United States was sold by Timex, which survived the crisis of the watch industry of the 70s caused by new digital technologies in watch production and fierce price competition from manufacturers in the East. Gradually shifting production from mechanical to digital watches, in 1986 Timex introduces the "Ironman Triathlon®" series, created in collaboration with renowned athletes. Over the course of the year, the "Ironman Triathlon®" line gained immense popularity in America and eventually became a complete collection of watches for men and women involved in sports.

In the 1990s, Timex continues to develop technologically advanced innovations. In 1992, the company introduced the first electroluminescent dial in the watch industry, the blue-green Indiglo® appeared on some of its digital and analog watches. Today, more than 75 percent of all Timex watches are equipped with Indiglo night light® that lasts all day. Indiglo® technology uses a hologram-like material that provides greater contrast between the numerals and the dial background. In 1994 Timex begins to produce the Data Link® watch, a sophisticated device that fits on the wrist and acts as an organizer, phone book, and other personal information. Working with Microsoft Corporation, Timex creates software to ensure that the watch is compatible with a personal computer for data transfer. In 1998, Timex introduced the i-Control ™ system with Motorola, and the new wrist pager was named Beepwear®.
Timex entered the new millennium with confidence in the quality of its brand and qualified personnel. The annual economic surveys rank Timex as a world leader in jewelry and accessories manufacturers, and Timex is also one of the top three in women's accessories. Seven thousand five hundred employees of the company work on four continents: in Middlebury (adjacent to Waterbury), Connecticut, USA; Little Rock, Arkansas, USA; Manaus, Brazil; Besancon, France; Pforzheim, Germany; Cebu, Philippines; PRC; Jerusalem, Israel; and Delhi, India.

Hello dear readers. It so happened that so far on our website Timex watches have been deprived of attention. It's time to correct this omission. Perhaps, it would be most correct to start studying the company's products with the Timex Waterbury collection, because it fully corresponds to the concept of the site: watches are affordable and are homemakers.

Timex history: the watch that made the dollar famous

The history of the company is very interesting and it will be briefly covered in this material, if only in order to understand where the name for the Waterbury line came from.

In 1854, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the company of the same name, Waterbury Clock, began producing watches. They were simple, made of stamped brass, and therefore could be purchased by ordinary people. It must be said that the watches produced imitated well-known brands, that is, they were practically homosexuals or even replicas. Thanks to this affordability, Waterbury Clock was bought in large quantities, and the company quickly overtook its competitors in terms of the number of watches sold. In 1880 the company was reorganized into the Waterbury Watch Company, and in 1881 it merged with the international pocket watch manufacturer and seller Robert H. Ingersoll and Brothers. Robert Ingersoll was a very entrepreneurial wholesaler and began selling the Waterbury Clock under the Yankee brand for just one dollar. The Yankee pocket watch, which symbolically cost one dollar, became a real hit. The first copy was sold at the beginning of the 20th century, in 1900. Over the next two decades, about 40 million pairs were realized! Subsequently, the legendary bestseller Yankee will be said: "The watch that made the dollar famous."

During the First World War, Yankee watches underwent significant changes. In 1917, the military leadership of the US Army ordered a new, practical and inexpensive watch for soldiers from Waterbury Clock. This led to the creation of a wrist version of a watch specially made for the American army in a huge edition.

Pocket mechanical watches from Waterbury were bought not only by the inhabitants of the American continent. Many Europeans, Africans and even Japanese have become their adherents.

Waterbury Clock cemented its success in 1933, when the company released a watch with the image of Mickey Mouse under the license of Walt Disney at a price of only $ 1.50. The beloved character of comics and cartoons at the time made Waterbury Clock a resounding success. Watches with the image of this mouse became very popular - even during the Great Depression, about 2,000,000 of these watches were sold. The company still produces watches with characters from Disney cartoons, they are still popular, and are an adored item for many collectors.

World War II: U.S. Time company

During World War II, Waterbury Clock was completely reorganized and renamed to US Time Company ". The factory began to produce military products. In the post-war period, the company returned to the manufacture of watches again, striving to make them simple, reliable and cheap. The new watch, already bearing the name Timex, was released in 1949. At that time, most watches were sold to jewelers who charged prices 50% higher. To keep their prices low, the company insisted on 30%, and most jewelry stores refused to sell Timex watches. Marketing manager Robert Mothr decided to bypass jewelers and sell watches at consumer outlets. In the 1950s, Robert built an extensive sales network that reached almost 250,000 branches.

In 1951, the company changes its name again. From that moment on, it began to be called Timex. There is an extensive advertising campaign for Timex products through television and radio. Popular journalists and well-known reporters have come up with a variety of tests for the watch to survive in extreme conditions. They were frozen, vacuumed for 7 days in a row, even attached to the ship's propeller (this is how the G-Shock is now being bullied). On YouTube, you can find several videos from those times in which Timex watches are tested for water resistance and shock resistance.

In the 1950s, the company occupied one third of the US watch market, and in the 1960s it became the undisputed leader. In 1959, the company launched its first women's model, the Cavatina. Women were offered several watches in one package at once, the watches had different inlays, for different outfits or one watch with a set of straps of different colors. Now such a company is also practicing, selling, for example, special sets, which include the popular Weekender with a set of multicolored Nato straps.

In the mid-1970s, the company was renamed Timex Corporation. In 1972. Timex released a digital watch, but it did not gain much popularity. The quartz crisis in the watch industry made its own adjustments to the development of the company, the Timex Corporation managed to resist and begin a gradual transfer of its production from mechanical watches to quartz.

Sports and quartz watches

1980 was a tough year for the company to compete with Japanese watches flooding the market. During this period, Timex focuses on improving the quality of watches and launching a new series of watches - watches for sports. In 1982. Timex released a computer. And although 500,000 units were sold, critics noted that Timex computers were extremely limited in their capabilities. In 1986, the Ironman Triatlon watch series was released, thus the company opened up a niche for sports watches.

In 1992, Timex introduced the Indiglo electroluminescent dial in its digital and analogue models. Recently, another novelty has been used in Timex watches - All-day indiglo. This technology uses a material similar to a hologram, which provides a greater contrast between the numerals and the background of the dial.

In 1994, Timex released the Data Link model - a sophisticated device that fits on the wrist and acts as an organizer, phone book, and can also contain other necessary information. In collaboration with Microsoft Corporation, new software was created that made the watch compatible with a personal computer for data transfer. In 1998, Timex developed the i-Control system together with Motorola. The generic product was named Beepwear and acted as a wrist pager.

Honest reviews that we receive in personal communication with the client and publish with his permission.

I do not understand programming, when I found this service, I was surprised, they told me so well and in detail: what to do and how to do it, that I created my site very quickly and it turned out to be beautiful and functional.

The young people who answer me are very well-mannered and polite, it is very pleasant to communicate with them. All questions are answered very quickly. The guys answer both on weekends and late at night. Everything is very functional and understandable.

I made one store very quickly and am planning to do another.

Alexander Barkov - the owner of the online store of live roses in the flask "Rosa Store"

I used different constructors - paid and free, even a self-written engine.

For a month of testing, I made a fully working store. I didn't have to buy any modules. All that is needed is done with the help of the support service. The admin panel is fully mastered in 1-2 days. Good loyalty program, prices, everything is great in terms of customer focus.

The site - www.urbech.org - you can see for yourself, all friends say that the site is beautiful and convenient, unlike the previous ones, where much more labor and money was spent.

In fact, it is a platform for those who are ready to immediately start fruitful work in their business.

I learned here: to make good pictures; some HTML; I know a little what the development of the site is not by hearsay! This site allows you to plunge into the world of site building, for a very cheap price, while 100 percent help is provided to you!

I am writing a review not praising, but honestly! My site SnabJet.ru, I made it myself with the help of the advice of storeland specialists, I just rent a site from them. No one will offer anything like this today!

I would like to share useful information for "beginners". A fairly simple and straightforward editor. Indexing in Yandex and Google, as well as in other search engines is excellent! (And this is definitely one of the main keys to the success of your store). The system of communication with the client has been worked out. Differentiation of access rights to site functions. - Friendliness and the main DESIRE to help from the storeland administration.

We have been using the service for more than 3 years, the platform has two online stores that are actively working and generating income! (a nice bonus - you will be given a month of free test).

I'm not a fan of writing reviews, but in this case, the guys leave no choice. In the good sense of the word!

I am a perfect zero in programming and creating websites - but with the guys it worked out!

1) Admin support, forum, quick answers to questions help to quickly resolve emerging issues.

2) Low rates - the ability to choose a rate for your store.

3) The functionality of the store, in my opinion, is more than sufficient - there is everything you need to work.

If you want to create an online store, you can do it very quickly in Store-land.

A large number of integrations of different services! The number of templates is suitable for a quick solution of any tasks, but if necessary and with proper knowledge of css html, everything undergoes customization, it works smartly and stably.

There is a forum where you can safely ask for help with layout and not only, and they will come to your aid promptly enough! I use it myself and advise you. To protest a niche? to launch a full-fledged online store? Everything can be done quickly here!

Maxim Stukalin - the owner of the online confectionery shop "Shop Forever"

I have been using the Storeland platform not so long ago, but I am 5+ happy with everything! And I don't even think about switching to other similar platforms.

Everything in StoreLand is thought out to the smallest detail.

I recommend this platform to everyone!

Irina - the owner of the online store "Shop Best Prices"

Inexpensive price, you can test for a month for free, beautiful, responsive templates, everything can be easily edited for yourself, excellent technical support, fast indexing of an online store, a free domain, many free automatic services.

I am a real person, I have a physical store in a large shopping center. I was looking for a resource for an independent SIMPLE website creation. So, for today I have created a store, which is estimated at several hundred thousand by programmers. And most importantly YOURSELF !!! The support service is amazing! The speed of solving problems can be the envy of any other service! And what else does the head of the Internet site need ???

There was still no room, no goods, no customers. We created an online store to check the demand. Demand appeared, goods appeared in response to demand and an office was rented. I was looking for an intuitive site. I brushed aside a lot. Left only StoreLand.

The site turns out to be decent and the system is clear. We launched it literally in a week, filled it with text, goods, paid for the domain, and after 3 days there was the first order. The technical support was asked only one question, the question was resolved quickly. Since then, there have been no questions. Everything suits, we don't even think about changing it.

We started, we have been working for 5 years, despite the crisis :)

We decided to just give it a try and took notice of your platform. There were several options, but more expensive.

Stopped at you. We launched and modified the store ourselves. We studied along the way, changed the design for ourselves. The first sales appeared immediately after the release within a month.

I like the support, considering that it is free. They often contacted about changes, they help, they even sent pieces of code. Were pleasantly surprised!

Initially, they were simple, intended primarily for the working class. Subsequently, mass production of stamped brass watches was established in the Nugatak Valley of Connecticut.
Already in 1880, the Waterbury Clock was widely used all over the world. From 1900, they began to sell under the Yankee brand. Robert Ingersoll is offering customers a watch for as little as $ 1. As a result, he was able to sell about 40 million pieces and became famous as the largest seller of watches in the world.
During the First World War, Yankee watches became very popular in the US Army. The 1930s saw the Waterbury Clock brand acquire the right to use the Mickey Mouse image on their watches. And in our time, the Timex company continues to produce children's watches with the image of cartoon characters, as evidenced by the children's collection Kids.
In 1951, the company got a new name - Timex, and in 1960 all US residents already knew about it. Later, the Cavatina women's watch collection was released. Later, Timex launched an electronic watch.
By the mid-1970s, the company's sales reached 500 million units, but the beginning of the 1980s was marked by fierce competition from Japanese manufacturers for Timex. The company was saved only by the quality of products and a new release, focused more on sports models.

Over the next years, Timex has kept its traditions and is actively introducing technological innovations into its products. In 1992, they added indigo electroluminescent lighting to their models. In 1994, a telephone book, organizer and other innovations were “placed” in Timex watches.
The company even began collaborating with Microsoft to create software for transferring data from a computer to a watch. The Timex company has established itself as one of the largest watch manufacturers known all over the world. Nowadays, production has been established in 20 countries of the world, and Timex watches are successfully sold in more than 60 countries.

Timex is the No. 1 watchmaker in the United States, founded in 1857 and originally called Waterbury Clock Co. At the very beginning of the twentieth century, Waterbury Clock Co was able to start mass production of watches, and thus reduce their cost. The Yankee pocket watch was a real sensation at one time: it cost only one dollar and was incredibly popular among Americans.

The TIMEX brand first appeared in 1950 and in the 50-60s the USA experienced a boom in popularity associated with the watches of this brand. By the late 1950s, every third watch sold in the United States was Timex watch... By the 60s of the twentieth century, the market for inexpensive watches in America was completely conquered by Timex. After the improvement of the production line Timex watches the first female model was launched. It was a "Cavatina" watch, and the action took place in 1959. Their low price allowed women not to save up for one expensive watch for all occasions, but to afford to buy several models that fit different outfits and moods.

Also in the 60s, some of the first electronic wristwatches were released Timex watches.

In the 70s, the company changed its name to Timex Corporation and finally conquered America, now almost every watch that was bought in this country was Timex watch... During the 80s, competition with Japanese manufacturers intensified: the fashion for new electronic watches, but the Timex corporation withstood this blow. And in 1986 the famous Ironman TriathlonR line was launched. This is a watch for athletes, which was created in cooperation with athletes, taking into account their needs and wishes, which is why the series is released 22 years later and continues to enjoy popularity and success. That same 1986, the Ironman TriathlonR chronometers were selling so well that Timex decided to make the series fully available to casual sports buyers.

In the 90s, Timex continued their research in the field of new technologies and did not give way to market leadership. One of the innovations of this time was the creation of the first electroluminescent dial. Nowadays, almost 80% of wristwatches Timex watches Produced with Indiglo night lightR dial. The technology, which only Timex has a patent, consists in the use of a special material that resembles a hologram and increases the contrast between the background of the dial and the numerals. Another novelty of the 90s is the Data LinkR watch, which the corporation began producing in 1994 and continues to use the system on which it is based to this day. Timex watches Data LinkR was an organizer, a phone book and contained a lot of other information and could be synchronized with a computer. In 1998, Timex launched the BeepwearR wrist pager.

Today the company produces many classic and sports watches, digital and hands, steel and titanium. Timex watches Popular with many athletes for their ability, the Ironman series is the leader in sports watches. In 2003, Timex Corporation developed the world's first GPS watch with navigation equipment manufacturer Garmin International.

Manufacture of wrist Timex watches is located next to the United States in the Philippines and is completely controlled by the Americans. The development of mechanisms is carried out in Germany, the manufacture of moving parts - in France, in the town of Besançon on the border with Switzerland, the development of design and production of cases - in the American city of Little Rock. Therefore, Timex is a truly high-quality international production, which is not inferior in quality to either Japanese or Swiss watches.
