If the calendar is in Nokia 3310. How to set the date and time on Nokia

Simple phones- a seemingly dead category continues to be in demand. Nostalgia, price, operating time and the banal lack of need for more functional solutions push people of different ages and professions to purchase “dialers”. Today we will tell you about probably the only mobile phone that can call general interest in 2017 - updated Nokia 3310.

HMD Global, which has owned the rights to trademark Nokia decided to release not only Nokia smartphones 3, 5, 6, but also try to play on the feeling of nostalgia of all fans of the brand. Thus appeared new Nokia 3310 is the reincarnation of a popular phone, which received the status of “unkillable” for its reliability. IN We have already said that the phones that entered the market 16.5 years apart have little in common, but the new product still deserves a separate review.

Design

The appearance of the new Nokia 3310 can be described as “simply inexpensive phone" The body is made of plastic, its middle is slightly wider, and it narrows by a couple of millimeters towards the top and bottom parts.

Additionally, this effect is emphasized by a plastic insert of light gray (almost white) color - it is the same for all phones, but the “back” and the area around the keyboard can be blue, gray, yellow or red. The first two options are matte, the last are glossy.

In terms of build quality and materials, the smartphone leaves a controversial impression, especially considering the price. Global problems no - the fit of the parts is precise, there are no huge gaps, everything is holding up fine. On the other hand, with strong pressure the lid can sag and, if desired, you can make the plastic squeak - a piece of foam material, originally glued under the lid, does not prevent this.

The lid is attached with latches, and there is a recess for a nail on the bottom for easier opening. Underneath it - removable battery, which hides two MicroSIM slots and a separate MicroSD. The right slots for the first SIM and memory card are normal, the left for the second SIM is spring-loaded.

The phone has a fairly simple design - the battery exposes the back side printed circuit board, immediately under the cover you can see hex bolts and latches securing the housing halves.

The arrangement of elements on the case for such models does not change: almost at the very top of the front panel there is a small hole for a separate conversational dynamics, immediately below it is the inscription Nokia, then the screen, then the keyboard. The microphone was placed to the left of the “8” key. On the top right is microUSB for charging and connecting to a computer, on the bottom is a 3.5 mm jack. On the back: a calling speaker, a camera and an LED that can act as a flashlight.

The flashlight is far from the brightest...

In part, I would like to see separate volume control keys on the body, an eyelet for attaching a strap, or a diode located on top - with such an arrangement it would be more convenient to use the flashlight.

Screen

The Nokia 3310 has a regular TFT display 2.4-inch diagonal with a resolution of 320×240 pixels (QVGA), supplemented with a polarizing layer. The plastic covering the matrix has a slightly convex shape, which makes the image look more voluminous.

The display is color, “normal” quality. Brightness is adjustable within five levels. Readability on the street is average, the presence of a polarizing layer is not too noticeable - in the shadows the information is clearly visible, but in the sun you have to adjust the angle or cover the screen with your palm. People with vision problems will not like this much.

Keyboard

The keyboard of the new Nokia 3310 consists of 16 keys: 12 digital block, two double functional, “joystick” with a confirmation button inscribed in it. There are raised dots on the top two function buttons and around the “5”. The white backlight is uniform, but the “joystick” is not illuminated.

The comfort of such keyboards is a subjective matter; it seemed average to me. The buttons have a slightly short travel with a noticeable click. They are not the largest, but have a slightly convex shape. It was more convenient for me to press them with my fingernail or the edge of my finger, but not with the entire pad (due to the size).

Operating system, functionality and applications

The updated “legendary” phone runs on Nokia platform Series 30+. It has only a slight visual resemblance to “that Nokia”. The platform was developed by MediaTek specifically for feature phones produced under the Nokia brand.

The menu can be presented as a list, or in matrices of 3*3 and 4*4 sizes. It includes the following items: call log, contacts, photos, internet, messages, snake (game), Mobile Store, my applications, camera, applications and games, music, weather, radio, video, settings, notes, calendar, calculator, alarm clock , additionally (timer, stopwatch, flashlight, converter), my files, voice recorder, counters (number of minutes, messages, data for each SIM), the item for setting up forwarding between two SIMs (there is one radio module) and SIM menu for each kart.

The list is impressive, but each item is implemented as simply as possible. For example, your phone can store up to 2,000 contacts. Each can be assigned a name (24 characters) and one phone number, as well as a picture (or photo from the camera). Assign to contact separate melody It’s not possible, just like there’s no functionality for groups or anything like that. There is a function speed dial- you can assign dialing to the selected number/contact to hold any of the numeric keys.

Contacts can be blacklisted. For fast transfer address book, for example, from a smartphone, you can use the function of copying contacts via Bluetooth, but in this case only the numbers entered in the “Mobile” field are copied.

Text input is possible either character by character or using T9.

On " home screen» The top navigation key turns on the flashlight, the bottom one gives access to the calendar, the side ones are responsible for quickly writing SMS and opening the calendar. The right multifunction key launches the camera, the left one launches a kind of list “ quick access"(the number of points and their order can be customized).

The phone can work with memory cards up to 32 GB, so you can record music on the card and listen to it through regular headphones or a speaker. There is FM radio without RDS (the headphones act as an antenna). The player with radio can work in background- in this case, playback control keys are displayed on the initial screen.

Despite the fact that Nokia 3310 can only work on 2G networks, the phone has a weather application, a pre-installed Opera Mini browser and theoretical support for J2ME applications. First of all we're talking about about the pre-installed “snake”, as well as several games that can be installed from the built-in store (paid). An attempt to install the first few applications downloaded from Google was unsuccessful; they simply did not launch.

WITH using Bluetooth 3.0, you can transfer files (SLAM function) and connect wireless headsets.

Communication quality and operating time

Towards the end of the life of “that Nokia” budget models brands were produced with one single speaker, performing the role of both calling and conversational, which had a bad effect on the quality of communication and the comfort of communication. Fortunately, this fate was avoided by the new Nokia 3310, which received two separate speakers.

In general, their quality can be called average, normal. The calling speaker is a familiar “polyphony”. A ringtone with familiar tunes will be heard from your trouser pocket, bag or the next room.

At the same time, the vibration alert is quite average and not very powerful, especially for such a light body.

The earpiece retains the recognizable notes of the voices of the interlocutors, its volume is sufficient for conversation indoors and on a not too noisy street. Communication is quite comfortable. There were no complaints about the performance of the single microphone during testing. Wherein modern smartphone A mid-range phone will still provide a slightly better connection, both due to the presence of an additional microphone for noise reduction, and thanks to the “wide” speaker grille. The device “supports” the network normally.

The implementation of Dual-SIM functionality is the simplest. You can select a card to access the Internet, and before each call or send a message you will have to choose which SIM card to use. Set default settings for specific number or calls/messages are not allowed.

The phone is powered by a removable 1200 mAh battery (BL-4UL). According to official data, it will last for 22 hours of calls, 31 days of standby time, 39 hours of radio listening or up to 51 hours of music listening. After a week of testing with minimum quantity calls and one active SIM, the charge indicator showed approximately 40% - normal autonomy for such devices.

Camera

Nokia 3310 follows modern trends, so a simple phone could not do without a built-in 2 MP camera (without autofocus). In this case, we don’t have to talk about quality; the camera performs an important function “just to be there.”

Articles and Lifehacks

The question is how to set date and time on Nokia, worries many owners of such mobile devices, as well as the question of what it is needed for.

Today cellular devices, released by this company, work on the basis of 3 main platforms - Windows Phone 7, Series 40 and Symbian. You should be aware that the procedure and method of setting depends on which system the cellular device is running under.

Last year, Nokia also began a small experiment to migrate from Asha to Android platform. In addition, mobile devices running under Android control, do not support Google services. It is noteworthy that their design is taken from Windows Phone.

Setting the time and date on Nokia phones running Series 40

If our cellular device works on this platform, first we will find the menu button. As a rule, it is located under the device’s display. If such a key is missing, press the button that is located on the joystick in the center.

There should be a Time and Date option in the menu. Most often it is easy to find through general settings/parameters. The location of this item depends on what model of device we are using.

To change the date and time, we also use the central button of the joystick. We write down the exact time and date (you can first check the time and day on desktop computer). We confirm the changes we have made.

To regularly synchronize time with base station button is used automatic update(if there is one).

Often on the day when the transition to winter time, a malfunction is possible. Even despite the cancellation of this transition, some stations are still configured in the old way. It is for this reason that our device needs synchronization. Once you enable automatic updates, you will no longer need to configure the settings.

Setting the time and date on Nokia phones running Windows Phone and Symbian

If we are using the Symbian platform, we set the time and date in the same way as with the Series 40. This method The only difference is how we access the device menu. Most often, a call is provided separate button with empty square and circle.

Device owners on Windows based Phone 7 also often worries about how to set date and time on Nokia. This also applies to Lumia series phones. Also of interest is the question of which SIM card is used in the device.

If we use such a cellular device, we should find the settings tab on its desktop. Often the button looks like a gear on a red background. In the menu that opens, select “Time + date” and make the settings, checking with exact time and number. Save changes

You can enable synchronization by activating the “Install automatically” option.

It should be noted that the described method is universal for all devices based on Windows Phone 7.

Positioning

HMD Global has received all rights to use the Nokia brand when producing both regular feature phones and smartphones. This company is a subsidiary of Foxconn, which is trying its hand as a manufacturer of devices under its own brand. At the same time, push-button phones are not a priority; they are produced for two reasons - the push-button market has not disappeared with the development of smartphones, and the Nokia brand is well known in this market. The fact that Microsoft actually curtailed the production of push-button Nokia phones, freed up a niche for Chinese companies, and now HMD Global wants to take some of the market back. But not at the expense of profits. And if Chinese manufacturers are ready to create phones at bargain prices, their cost is less than 10 dollars, then HMD Global’s approach is completely different, they make money on such devices, and they earn a lot. To successfully sell them, the company appeals to popular models of the past. For example, the same Nokia 3310 was produced from 2000 to 2005 and was sold with a total circulation of 126 million units, this is one of the most popular models throughout the history of the telephone market.

The main message of HMD Global is that “the legend is back,” these words can be read in a huge number of materials dedicated to the new model. In February, at an exhibition in Barcelona, this device was the highlight of the program; crowds gathered to look at it; it was difficult to push through to the stand.

A well-played PR card drew attention to a model that would otherwise be completely invisible, with nothing outstanding about it. This is a phenomenon old Nokia, which retained a loyal audience, despite how the company was destroyed by people from Microsoft, many people still have warm feelings and are ready to invest their money in products with this brand. It was an amazing discovery for me that in 2017, years after the destruction of Nokia as such, there are people who are still asking for something from Nokia in stores, the feeling is that they spent this time in suspended animation and did not notice anything from it. what was happening in the market.

The 2017 Nokia 3310 is positioned like this - this is the return of a legend, which is needed by children or adults who feel nostalgic and need a second, push-button phone for calls. Let's see how successful this comeback is.

Design, dimensions, control elements

The appearance of the Nokia 3310 has undergone changes, this is a different device, created based on, it is difficult to recognize the same 3310 in the new product, or you need to have a very rich imagination.

The model is available in four colors - red (glossy), yellow (glossy), dark blue (matte), gray (matte). My case is dark blue, as the manufacturer emphasizes, the plastic is painted in bulk, that is, over time the color will not peel off, since it is not paint. But this is not the problem with the case at all; within a matter of days it wears out in your pocket, and bald spots appear on it. Moreover, I checked this on several devices, it was the same everywhere. The gray device is also erased, but because of the color it is not so noticeable.

Glossy cases are cheerful, they don’t have problems with rubbing.

The phone dimensions are 115.6x51x12.8 mm, weight - 79.6 grams. It is small and fits well in the hand, except that the location of the camera is not entirely convenient; usually a piece of your finger covers it.

It’s unlikely that anyone will often use the camera on this device, so it’s not worth saying that this is a problem; in rare cases, you can move your finger.

The first problem you encounter is the opening of the case; it was made very tight. This has a plus, because back panel It costs like a glove, but the downside is also obvious - you won’t be able to open the case instantly, and you can easily break your nails. Let me remind you that the original 3310 also had a tight case; despite the button on the back, it was difficult to remove the panel. Here, apparently, they decided to repeat the old experience; in the video you can see what kind of torment this moment of disclosure brings.

Unfortunately, this model is budget and there are no side volume keys. Inside you can see two slots for microSIM cards, and the slides for the slots are not processed and have sharp edges. Look how the shavings were removed from my SIM card.

No adapters for SIM cards can be used in this model; the design is such that if you try to remove the card with the adapter, you will simply bend the contacts; this is separately warned in the instructions.

There is a separate speaker on the rear panel for playing ringtones, but it is quite quiet and the volume is below average. There is also a camera lens and an LED flash, which also acts as a flashlight.

At the top end there is a microUSB connector, it is used to charge the device, at the bottom end there is a 3.5 mm jack for connecting headphones or a headset, present in the Russian supply, it is very inexpensive, budget, but you shouldn’t expect anything else.

The build quality of the device is good, there are no rough edges. Due to the convex screen, a kind of lens, hand marks are clearly visible on it.

Display

In push-button phones, a large screen is considered to be a diagonal of 2.4-2.6 inches, here the screen is 2.4 inches with QVGA resolution. The picture quality is good, the fonts are large and clearly legible. For working in the sun there is a polarizing filter, the picture remains readable.

I like the device with its screen, I can’t say that it is somehow different from quality ones Chinese buttons, but it is definitely one of the notable representatives of this class of devices.

In standby mode, nothing is shown on the screen, but you can wake up the device to see a screensaver in the form of a black and white clock.

Keyboard

Nokia push-button phones always or almost always had high-quality buttons, they had a good action, soft pressing, the company paid a lot of attention to this. Unfortunately, the keyboard in this device is not all right. Let's start with the fact that the buttons have a very short travel, add here their small size, and it turns out that typing text, and not just a number, will be difficult.

Function keys double, which does not cause special problems, but in games, for example, the same snake can accidentally press adjacent keys, which leads to exiting the toy. Crowded and cramped.

Navigation key has an inscribed OK button; calls to various functions are assigned to deviations.

Keyboard backlight white, not very bright, but it hides the symbols on the buttons, they merge into mush.

It's a pity, but for the keyboard on this device you can give a solid C to the engineers who created the device; nothing good came of it.

Battery

Battery Li-Ion 1200 mAh, declared operating time in talk mode - up to 22 hours, in standby mode - up to 25 days, when listening to MP3 - up to 51 hours, FM radio - up to 39 hours. With one SIM card and about an hour of calls daily, the device worked quietly for about 8 days. The less you touch the screen, the more it will work. Since, apart from SMS and a calendar, there is not much to occupy yourself with, this is a dialer for calls that will work for a long time. She will live quietly in standby mode for several weeks. Full charging time is about 2.5 hours.

Communication capabilities

This is an ordinary dialer that supports only 2G (in Moscow and the region, Tele2 subscribers can safely forget about it). The lack of 3G in a device of this price is discouraging; it’s strange, especially since Nokia had models of this level with 3G.

The presence of Bluetooth is useful for exchanging contacts with smartphones, for example, I downloaded all my contacts from an Android smartphone, it took a couple of minutes (a thousand contacts). Everything works great, and this is a huge plus of the device. You can transfer pictures taken on the Nokia 3310 using the same Bluetooth. There is no synchronization with a PC, and it is not needed.

Working with two SIM cards

The device has one radio module (GSM 900/1800), so simultaneous operation of two cards is impossible. Nokia offers to set up call forwarding, then if any card is unavailable, the call will be routed to a second one. This is not worth doing, since the cost of forwarding for most operators is quite high.

In the calls and messages menu, each list contains an indication of which card the event originated from; when dialing a number, you can select a card. You cannot choose your own icons and names for each card. But there are separate message, data and call counters for each card.

Camera

Regular 2 megapixel camera without autofocus, target audience A camera on such a device is not really needed. But it makes this device stand out among many buttons, whether they have cameras or they are not of very good quality.

Menu

The menu can be presented as a list or a 3x3, 4x4 matrix.

The left key can be assigned to call up a list of applications and functions that you choose yourself.

Phone book. You can store 2 thousand names in memory, with only one number per name. You can set your own picture for the name (if installed card memory). The list can be searched by name. There is a black list in which recorded contacts cannot be added; numbers must be entered manually. And it's all! Very ascetic phone book, which raises more questions than it answers. On old Nokias notebooks were an order of magnitude better, here everything is very scanty and will suit only children.

Messages. There is support for both SMS and MMS. Templates, blacklist, smiles - everything is standard, and there is nothing special here. When messages are received, they appear on the home screen in a small pop-up window. They appear in the list as chat.

Call lists. Three lists – dialed, missed, received. It's quite simple.

Alarm. Up to 5 alarms with repeats on certain days, both your own file and radio as a melody (you need to connect a headset).

FM radio. Works only with the headset turned on, there is a mode speakerphone, station search and display text information. Everything is extremely simple.

Music player . Can search for music in all folders on the memory card, displays album covers. Everything is simple and clear, there is support for playlists.

Opera acts as a built-in browser, so everything is simple. It cannot be replaced with something else.

Applications and games. There are 4 games, all of them are demo versions, if you want to play, pay 99 rubles plus the cost of SMS. The debit comes from the operator's account.

That same snake looks like a parody of old game, it's free, but it doesn't make you want to play.

Calendar supports event entry, display only for a month.

Calculator, voice recorder, file manager, countdown timer, stopwatch, unit converter– all this is done simply.

Set the internet on fire when it was announced at MWC 2017, but who will actually buy it and use it as their primary phone?

Answer: Some people are already using it. But those who avidly read sites like ours to see latest smartphones and the hottest innovations are hardly ready to go back to the old-school phones that the 3310 is.

To compile this Nokia 3310 review, I had to go for it. I did not use features specific to my regular smartphone. And it was a very strange time, where all I could do was worry about how much charge was left in the battery and text messages to find out where all my friends were hiding.

Here's my week with the Nokia 3310, presented in diary form for easy review.

Monday fromNokia 3310 – Setup time!

I tried to replace my phone with a Nokia 3310 (2017) early Monday morning but was faced with a revelation as my SIM card was the wrong size. Big mistake, I forgot what the new Nokia uses Micro SIM instead of Nano SIM.

Despite changing phones several times a month, as a tech journalist, I forgot there were any other standards other than Nano SIM. Every modern smartphone boasts a Nano, however, I had to look for a Micro SIM adapter to be able to work with the Nokia 3310.

The next big stumbling block was the fact that my contacts did not transfer to the Nokia 3310. Instead, I had to manually add the people I want to be able to contact. However, you won't encounter this problem if your contacts are saved on the SIM card, so I recommend doing this in advance if you plan to buy the 3310.

In fact, setting up the phone was much easier than setting up a new iPhone or Android smartphone. There are only two or three steps you really need to follow, like setting the time.

Tuesday fromNokia 3310 – Time for big news!

It was the day the Manchester terrorist attack happened and James Bond actor Roger Moore died. Without a smartphone at hand, follow latest news easily.

When I heard from a friend that Moore had died, I tried to access a news site from the new Nokia 3310. The experience was frustratingly slow and took about 20 seconds to load each web page over the 2.5G network that the Nokia 3310 uses - no 3G , no 4G or even Wi-Fi.

Wednesday fromNokia 3310 – Will I be able to get home?

This day taught me that living without applications on Nokia 3310 is not easy. In fact, there are no apps at all. Eat mobile store Nokia 3310, which is called Java Games and Apps.

Meanwhile, I was on a business trip in another city, using my phone in search of an application that could lead me to the hotel that evening, and nothing came of it, the store only offers games, despite its name.

Previously, HMD confirmed that there will be Twitter apps and Facebook in the near future, but the exact release date is still unclear.

Even the game selection on the 3310 remains fairly poor, focusing on the manufacturer's games including FREE Flapping Bird and Brick Challenge, the latter of which looks like Tetris. There are also advertisements inside the store, which is very annoying when you are in a hurry to find what you need.

This was the first day that I experienced the difficulty and dislike of going back to a regular phone.

Thursday fromNokia 3310 – Introduction to Cameras!

The main camera of the new Nokia 3310 becomes good addition, considering that the first version of this phone did not have a camera at all, however, there is not much to discuss here. I managed to take seven photos—yes, seven—thanks to the available memory on my phone.

To be able to take more photographs, you need to use microSD card, and this is even more disappointing than the resolution of the photos. You can see some sample photos below, but the 2MP camera couldn't come close to the quality of 2017's flagship cameras.

This balloon is bright and very orange in reality, so the colors are not great.

This landscape doesn't look impressive, but it's actually very vibrant.

Friday fromNokia 3310 – How long will this last?

Today I decided to take a look at the phone battery, which is especially difficult to drain. Mainly because it's difficult to continue using this phone for a long time. long period time without being able to play good games and watch movies on it.

Typically, a phone lasts about seven days on a single charge, the Nokia 3310 is not bad. HMD Global advertised 31 days battery life, but this is only if you do not use the phone and leave it in standby mode.

If you make occasional calls and text messages, the phone should last you a little over a week. This good news, especially if you're frustrated with your smartphone's battery life.

Saturday fromNokia 3310 – Return of the Snake!

With only two days left of the Nokia 3310 for this review, I'll be honest, I'm looking forward to getting my smartphone back.

Everything you need from regular phone, there is one here. Text messages work well phone calls They sound great, even the camera takes good pictures for a 2 megapixel sensor, but I miss the entertainment features of my smartphone.

I don't have access to Spotify or favorite games like Reigns or Lara Croft Go. I can play Snake instead, but it's not as fun as it was on the original Nokia 3310.

It's not about new version games, the fact is that we managed to get used to best games on their smartphones.

Sunday fromNokia 3310 – How was it?

This is the last day of the Nokia 3310 recall - I'll be swapping the SIM card into the OnePlus 3T this evening.

In terms of use, I found the Nokia 3310 to be a very intuitive phone, but in practice it can be infuriating. Switch back to numeric keypad makes me angry when I just want to type and this is a major disappointment.

The video may be the part I missed in the Nokia 3310 review. Without having easy access to YouTube or the ability to play movies from my phone, I just don't see any reason to use it as my primary device.

The lack of media like podcasts or streaming music is another big disappointment, and the lack of access to messaging programs like Messenger or WhatsApp is also a big problem.

I wouldn't use the 3310 as my main everyday device, but I wouldn't be able to use either for much longer without charging.

It sounds crazy, but the excitement around the old-new Nokia 3310 can be compared to what happens during presentations flagship smartphones new brands. Whether at MWC in Barcelona or at the official presentation in Moscow, the 2017 Nokia 3310 was without a doubt a star. The news about its appearance, and then about the start of sales in Russia, immediately shot up to the top of Yandex - this also says something. So HMD Global and Foxconn - namely they released the new Nokia 3310 - made, without a doubt, a brilliant marketing move.

And although even just turning it in his hands, it becomes that the old man is no longer a cake, it is simply impossible to resist getting to know her better.

Let's not deny ourselves this pleasure.

Technical characteristics of Nokia 3310

It’s impossible to avoid comparisons with the classic Nokia 3310, so the characteristics in the table are given for two phones at once: on the right - for the new one, model 2017, on the left - for the old one.

Appearance and equipment

Simple cardboard box, in Chinese style, the colors are cheerful, the only thing missing is Pikachu.

Everything inside is laconic: the phone itself, the battery, instructions in Russian, a Micro-USB 2.0 charger and a headset.

The first impression of the phone itself is that it is VERY small and light. The new Nokia fits into your hand like a toy. And it looks very frivolous. If you nostalgically remember the Nokia 3310 as a brick, forget it.

Our hero is blue, a classic of the genre. In addition, it is practical: there is a suspicion that the glossy versions of the case - yellow and red - will very quickly lose their original appearance.

To insert the battery and SIM card, you will have to open the cover by hooking it on the connector from below, and this is not very easy. When opened, the plastic bends and a loud click is heard. It's scary, but that's normal.

Under the cover there are two slots - on the left is a single slot, where a SIM card is inserted, on the right - a double slot, you can insert both a SIM card and a memory card into it at the same time.

The Nokia 3310 has a power connector on the top and a headphone port on the bottom.

There is a speaker above the screen. On back cover located, I quote the instructions, a loudspeaker, a flashlight and a camera.

To turn on the phone, you need, as before, to press and hold the power button under the screen.

Nokia 3310 keys and menus

For some reason, the default date on the Nokia 3310 is 10/1/2015. If I were the manufacturer, I would put the year 2000, of course. It would be beautiful.

The screen displays information about SIM cards, date, time and incoming information. You can control the phone only with keys; the screen is not touch-sensitive, and this, of course, is very confusing at first. I remember one in which button control was combined with touch control, which made it very easy to switch to it from a smartphone.

The buttons themselves are small, but generally convenient. The only (and very sad) exception is the central selection key, with which you can enter the menu. Scrolling up and down with it is still okay, but to scroll left and right, you will have to get used to pressing exactly on the edge, otherwise it works like “ENTER”.

The menu has a lot of things: Call log, Contacts, Photos, Internet (when clicked, the Opera Mini browser is installed), Messages, Snake (yes!), Music, Mobile Store, My Applications, Camera, Radio (only works when connecting a headset that performs role of the antenna), Settings, Weather, Calendar, Alarm clock, Notes, Voice recorder, Files (photos, notes and voice recorder recordings that can be saved to the phone memory or to a memory card), Calculator.

There is also a menu for managing SIM cards, Counters (in it you can view statistics on calls, SMS and MMS, as well as data transfer) and an Additional menu (here you will find a timer, stopwatch, flashlight and converter)

The icons are generally intuitive; confusion may arise only with the browser and Mobile Store icons, they are very similar. The display of the menu itself can be customized, showing icons in a 3x3 and 4x4 grid or a list (taking into account the problems with the central button, a list is most convenient).

To the left function button The most used applications are suspended, by default this is access to photos, locking keys, turning on the flashlight, adjusting the volume, and device settings. Menu lists can be modified or moved around the list.

Pressing the right function button turns on the camera; in other cases, it acts as the Back key.

The biggest disappointment with the Nokia 3310 is...

…absence Wi-Fi module.

This is understandable, because the new Nokia 3310 is built on the Series 30+ platform. Let us remind you that Nokia has Lately(before the transition to Windows) there were four main platforms: Series 40 - for advanced push-button and touchscreen devices, Series 30 - for budget devices, Series 60 - for smartphones on Symbian and Series 80 - for smartphones-laptops on the same Symbian (and such were).

So, the new owners of the Nokia brand inherited the Series 30+ platform (well, that is, Series 30 on steroids) with a very stripped-down set of modern software components, essentially limited to a player, tools for working with a camera and Bluetooth.

Therefore, you will not find in the Nokia 3310 a Wi-Fi module, support for high video resolution, or an alternative Opera browser Mini, but you will have to download applications from the Opera Mobile Store, and this, believe me, is an extremely painful process.

At this point I would like to ask the manufacturer a question - was it really impossible to install at least a minimum set of applications, the same messenger, for example? A classic, a classic, but still, in 17 years, a lot has changed in our methods of communication.

Communications and connections

There is no Wi-Fi, but what is there?

There is support for 2G networks, that is, you can access the Internet, but loading will be slow, not to mention how “convenient” it is to surf the Internet on such a tiny screen. Eat bluetooth module, but in practice to none of the available Nokia devices 3310 could not be connected.

But the Nokia 3310 connects to a computer via a USB connector without any problems, and you can easily transfer information to a memory card or, conversely, from it. You can also charge your phone via a USB port.

Camera and image quality of Nokia 3310

2 megapixels - what can we talk about? Everything is bad, of course. But HMD Global tried to make sure everything was like the big ones. The camera menu has a video recording function, brightness settings, and even photo effects (you can shoot in b/w, sepia, green and blue, and invert colors). You can also shoot in night mode and even burst mode. With all this, there is no focus button, sorry.

It's even worse with video.

Sound and signals

You don't have to be a music lover to understand that the sound of the new Nokia 3310 is terrible. The speaker clearly wheezes, and it’s better not to hear how the headset wheezes at the maximum volume level.

The only thing I liked was how touchingly the manufacturer urges you to take care of your ears as soon as you try to make the sound louder.

By the way, the downloaded melody can be set as a signal for incoming call, messages or on an alarm clock, if you are not satisfied with the standard ones (they are really so-so).

Like anyone who respects himself push-button telephone, the new Nokia 3310 has several operating modes - normal (sound and vibration), silent ( complete shutdown all sounds, including the sound of keystrokes), quiet (short ringtone and minimum volume), outdoor (maximum sound) and personal (customize as you want). Any of them can be set temporarily by setting the end time of the mode in the settings.

The most important thing is what’s wrong with Snake?

She is. But this clumsy something with a wild sound looks like a mockery of the good old “Snake”.

This is what it looked like on the official video.

And this is what it really looks like.

Nokia 3310 - buy or not?

Never before has it been so difficult for me to answer this question.

On the one hand, the new Nokia 3310 is a phone designed for something unknown and for someone unknown. People the same age as the “old” Nokia simply won’t understand it, and nostalgic citizens will quickly be disappointed.

On the other hand, I repeat, it was an extremely successful marketing move - to play on our nostalgia and our curiosity. Because it’s incredibly difficult to resist and not try what this Nokia 3310 from 2017 is like.

So if you have an extra 4 thousand rubles, buy it. But don’t say later that you weren’t warned.

Advantages:

  • high-quality assembly
  • painfully familiar design
  • polyphonic melodies

Flaws:

  • lack of Wi-Fi module
  • disgusting sound
  • bad camera
  • mutilated "Snake"
