What is projection in windows 10. What is Miracast? Connection on Android

In Windows 10, you can find one very interesting feature called Miracast, which can transmit image and sound wirelessly, in other words, via Wi-Fi. Thus, if you want to watch a movie on a large TV and monitor, connect Miracast.

This guide is just aimed at helping users to master the wonderful technology of wireless data transmission. I will show everything with an example. Let's take a look at some connectivity issues.

How to connect a TV or monitor via Miracast?

To get started, make sure that your TV or monitor supports a wireless network (Wi-Fi), and now let's get down to business.

On your Windows 10 computer, hold down the keyboard shortcut Win+P and immediately opens the "Project" section on the right. At the very bottom we find the item "Connecting to a Wireless Display" and click on it.

The search for wireless devices will immediately begin, to which we will transfer the picture, in other words, a TV, monitor, or something else.

If something was found, click on this device, by the way, if the screen on the TV / monitor is turned off, be sure to turn it on.

What do we get? And we get an image from a computer monitor, which is projected onto a TV screen, and the picture will be transmitted in good quality and without interference.

What to do if Miracast is not working?

As you can see, we performed a minimum of actions and the connection took us less than five minutes. But, as always, there may be some problems, and here, by the way, what are they.

No Miracast support

In other words, your Wi-Fi adapter simply does not support Miracast, or the necessary drivers are not installed for the adapter. This is true if you do not have the "Connect to a wireless display" item.

If the item is still there, then when you click on it, you can see a message telling us that the device does not support Miracast. Therefore, for many, this article may be useless. Of course, you can purchase another Wi-Fi adapter that supports this technology.

You have a laptop or other device with a wireless adapter that is from, say, 2012 and later. While doing this, you notice that Miracast is not supported. Most likely, the problem here is in the drivers, for example, they were installed incorrectly. I advise you not to rely on the system to install everything itself, so it's better to go to the official website of your adapter and download the latest drivers from there, and then install it.

If there are no drivers for Windows 10 for your devices, don't despair. Download what data, for example, may be present for Windows 8, they may also be suitable.

Useful:

Connecting to a TV or monitor via Miracast takes a very long time

It is also a very common reason that is familiar to us when connecting any other device to a Wi-Fi network - the connection is endless.

A little higher, I described that you need to install the latest drivers for the Wi-Fi adapter and hope that the system has already installed them automatically. This method can also work here, but not always.

There are few versions here, perhaps the problem is with the TV itself, because some devices can connect immediately, and some cannot, or the technology is not supported by an external device. You can try restarting both the TV and the computer, it can help, and you should also take into account that old equipment can greatly ruin your life, that is, it will be possible to transfer the image to the TV or monitor, but there will be terrible brakes on both devices.

LonelyScreen for iOS and Vysor for Android allow you to open files, play games and watch videos on your computer screen

With the appropriate software, you can project your iPhone or Android screen onto a Windows computer. Why might this be needed? You may want to use a mobile device with a larger display. You may want to view photos, videos, play games, or access content from your device on an offline computer. Two third-party programs that mirror the screen of your phone or tablet in Windows can help you with this. These utilities are LonelyScreen for iOS device and Vysor for Android. Let's take a closer look at both programs.

Lonely Screen

First of all, download and install LonelyScreen on your Windows PC from the LonelyScreen website (http://www.lonelyscreen.com/download.html). Then connect your iOS device to your computer. Launch LonelyScreen if it's not already open (Screen 1).

Screen 1: Launching LonelyScreen

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen on your iOS device to open the Control Center. Tap AirPlay Mirroring. One of the items on the list will be LonelyScreen (Screen 2).

Tap LonelyScreen. You should now see the iOS screen in the LonelyScreen window (Figure 3).

The LonelyScreen window can be enlarged by expanding it.

You can control the process from your iOS device and watch the result on your computer screen. Depending on the application and screen you are using, you can display the image in portrait or landscape orientation (the latter fills the entire screen). You can open apps, play games, and stream videos from your device, and see all the activity on your computer without special hardware (Figure 4).

Android users: Vysor

Let's turn to Android devices. Here, the process is more complicated than setting up to display the iOS device. But unlike other options, like using Cast on some Android devices, it's more versatile. You need to follow these steps:

  1. Connect your Android device to your computer. Screen projection requires a development feature called USB Debugging to be enabled. Open the Settings menu on your Android device, tap About device under System, and then tap Build Number seven times. Return to the Settings menu and you will see the setting for the developer (Developer) in the System section. Tap Developer settings and then settings for USB Debugging to turn it on.
  2. Download and install the Google Chrome browser if you don't already have it.
  3. Using Chrome, search for the word Vysor to download the program from the Google Chrome Web Store. Click the Add to Chrome button on the Vysor page. On the Chrome app page, double-click the icon for Vysor to launch the program. Click the link at the bottom of the Vysor page to download the ADB drivers for Windows (Windows 10 users should click the link to download the latest ADB drivers).
  4. After installing the ADB drivers, return to the Vysor page. You may be asked to allow USB debugging from your Android device. Click the OK button. You will see a message that Vysor is connected. Click OK or Never Show This Again if you don't want to receive such messages in the future. After that, the screen of your Android device should appear on the computer (Screen 5).

You can now open files, play games, and watch videos through the Android device projected onto the computer screen (Screen 6). To take full advantage of Vysor with full screen mode and get rid of ads, you need to pay $2 per month, $10 per year, or $40 for an unlimited subscription. However, the feature set of the free version is quite acceptable.

Hello! We continue to disassemble the Windows 10 operating system! Today you will learn how to set up projection and connect a second screen on Windows 10. For example, you want to connect a TV or a second computer to your computer, or just an additional screen. You can not only connect an additional screen, but you can also set up projection.

Windows 10 projection how to connect a second screen

To connect a second screen, in the lower right corner of the screen, open "Notification Center" by clicking on the corresponding writing sheet icon. In the window that opens, click on the tab - Project. Projection needs to be adjusted only after the second screen is connected.

Only computer screen the default type when only this computer's screen is connected.

recurring, you can connect a second screen and it will display the same as on your computer.

expand, With this projection, you can combine one picture from multiple screens.

Only the second screen with this type, it will only show the second screen that you connect to the computer. The computer screen will be turned off.

How to connect a second screen

To connect a second screen, at the bottom of the window "Projection" click tab - Connecting to a wireless device. Make sure the second device you want to connect is turned on. Device search will start automatically. The window should display its name.

How to connect devices:

Television, modern TV can be connected via HDMI cable. Make sure your TV has an appropriate output. Modern TVs can also be connected via Bluetooth if they have this option.

Projector, connects via VGA or HDMI cable.

Computer, laptop, connect via Bluetooth.

How to connect Bluetooth:

Open the window in the lower right corner again "Notification Center". In the window that opens, click on the - tab. After that, the corresponding icon will appear in the taskbar.

This technology was developed by Microsoft. Thanks to her, it became possible to connect the monitor of a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone based on the Android OS to a TV without using HDMI cables. This standard has its pros and cons. Below we will explain how to enable Miracast in Windows 10 operating system.

Main advantages

  • since the connection is via Wi-Fi, you can forget about long cables on the floor that someone always stumbles over;
  • no loss of image quality, as if all information is transmitted via HDMI;
  • this technology has support for various devices, which greatly distinguishes it from its counterparts.

Flaws

Of course, like any technology, Miracast has its downsides. These include:

  • Microsoft's wireless way of transmitting data to a display needs further development, as only what happens on the source screen is transmitted to the device. Competitors have much more functionality;
  • Miracast technology is not always stable. Intermittent failures are possible. Especially if the receiver and source are at a great distance. In this case, it will be very inconvenient to use;
  • As practice shows, not all devices will seamlessly connect to each other.

Setting up on a laptop or PC

In order to connect to a TV (Samsung, LG, etc.) using Miracast, both gadgets must have Wi-Fi adapters.

Please note that:

  • your PC must be running Windows 8.1 or higher;
  • your TV must be modern and support Miracast or Screen Share (the name of the technology depends on the model).

Sometimes this feature does not appear on the TV until you connect it to a wireless network.

To duplicate a display, follow the steps below.

  1. Turn on your TV and make sure it's connected to Wi-Fi. This happens differently on different models. Here is an example for LG.
  1. Press the "Smart" button on the remote control.
  1. After that, a menu will open for you.
  1. You need to navigate (using the right arrow on the remote) to the "Screen Share" application. After that, click on the "OK" button.
  1. Immediately after that, you will start the desired utility.

From now on, the TV will be in standby mode. Pay attention to the device name.

  1. Now press on your laptop or computer on the keyboard shortcut Win + P. A menu will appear on the right side of the screen, in which you need to click on the link “Connect to a wireless display”.
  1. After that, you will need to wait until Windows finds your TV.
  1. The name that was specified earlier should appear in the list.
  1. Click on this device to start the connection.

Immediately after that, a picture from a PC or laptop should appear on your TV display.

Connection problems

When connecting, the following error may appear.

You can correct the situation as follows.

  1. Click on the "Start" menu and click on "Settings".
  1. Go to the "Devices" section.
  1. After that, you need to click on the "Add Bluetooth or other device" button.
  1. You will have a new window. In it you need to select the item "Wireless display or docking station".
  1. The search will start immediately after that. It is necessary to wait a little.
  1. Once your TV appears in the list, you will need to click on it.
  1. After this action, the connection will begin (it can take a long time).
  1. If successful, the wireless display will be added to the device list.

Now press the Win + P key combination again and try to connect. Everything should work. If it is, then "Connected" will appear.

Firewall problem

If you still cannot connect, then the problem may be your antivirus, or more specifically, your firewall. This traffic protection system works differently on different programs. Let's consider a way to eliminate this problem of communication between a TV and a laptop using the example of the Eset Smart Security program.

First, try disabling this feature completely. To do this, right-click on the antivirus icon in the tray and select the desired item.

After that, repeat all the steps above to connect to the TV. If this time everything works out, then the problem is in the firewall. But keeping it off all the time is not an option.

As a rule, by default it works in automatic mode. You need to switch to interactive mode. You can do this with the following steps.

  1. Open the antivirus window.
  1. To start the settings, press the F5 button on the keyboard. In the window that opens, go to the "Personal firewall" section and expand the "Advanced" category.
  1. Switch "Filter Mode" to "Interactive".
  1. Save the settings by pressing the "OK" button.

After that, no program will be able to go online and send or receive data without your knowledge. Thus, you can at the same time block access to the Internet for various updates.

Try connecting to the device again. This time you should see the windows shown below. Allow incoming and outgoing network traffic from your computer to the TV.

Be sure to check the box next to "Create a rule and remember forever"

This time everything should be successful.

Connection on Android

To get started, you need to turn on your TV and launch the Screen Share app.

Instructions on this issue are described above in the PC connection section.

After that, you need to perform the following steps.

  1. Check if Wi-Fi is enabled on your phone.

If you do not have this icon on your phone, then the wireless connection is disabled. You can enable it in the settings.

  1. After that, we return to the settings and open the "Xperia Connections" item (in our case). This feature may have different names on different phone models.

If you can't connect devices to each other or have other problems, try the following suggestions.

Note.

If your computer does not support Miracast, you can try to project your screen via a wired connection. Restart your computer. Restart your wireless display and adapter. If you are using an adapter, unplug the adapter from your TV or monitor, restart your device, re-insert the wireless display adapter into your TV or monitor, and try projection again.

If you are using a wireless display adapter, set the video source to the appropriate HDMI port (the one that the wireless adapter is connected to). To do this, check the video source settings on your HDTV, monitor, or projector. Instructions can be found in the documentation that came with the device or on the manufacturer's website.

If the adapter is not connected, open Notification Center, click All settings , click Devices , and then Connected devices. Click Add device, and then select your wireless display or wireless display adapter.

Text is fuzzy or images freeze on the display

If text on the display is not clear or images freeze, change the screen resolution on your computer.

Note.

Quality issues may occur when projecting fast-paced games onto a wireless display.
