One of the convenient features of the X-Window graphics subsystem of the Linux OS is the ability to automatically activate an application window when you hover the mouse cursor over it. Many users really like this feature, and when working with Windows, many miss it, because in the standard Windows configuration, you need to click on it to activate the desired window.

The technology for activating a window on hover is called Activation follows mouse or X-Mouse(not to be confused with the mouse button remapping program of the same name). Let's try to figure out how to activate the X-Mouse function in different versions of Windows.

Activating a window on hover in Windows XP

In Windows XP there is no way to enable X-Mouse through the OS GUI. You can enable this mode only through the registry (or using special utilities that, in fact, also edit the registry, for example TweakUI, TaskSwitchXP or VistaSwitcher).

In Windows 7/8, you can enable the automatic activation of a window when you hover over it with the cursor much easier. We won't have to resort to manually modifying the registry. Just open the control panel and go to the section Ease of Access Center ->Make the mouse easier to use(Ease of Access Center - Make your mouse easier to use), check the box - Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse(Activate a window when you hover over it) and save your changes.

You can change the time delay during which the window on which you hovered the cursor becomes active, through the registry in the manner described above (key ActiveWndTrkTimeout).

So, we have figured out how in different versions of Windows you can enable the switching mode from the active window to the inactive window by simply hovering the mouse pointer without having to click on it.

After the initial installation of the Windows 10 operating system from removable media, it is necessary to activate it to confirm the license rights to own this version. Removing watermarks and notifications in Windows 10 is a fairly easy process. At the same time, it is necessary to clearly understand that they were not developed by chance. It is quite possible that activation for some reason did not go through or there was a failure in the system files. A watermark that was previously removed as annoying will not appear. This may lead to the fact that at the most inopportune moment you will not be able to start the system and will see a warning on the display about the end of the period allotted for activating Windows 10. You will need to waste time searching for the key, which, as always, will not be at hand.
